Well I suppose at least telepaths really can torture you when you're in the comfy chair!

This conversation is getting silly. Razz

I'm sorry I missed the discussions of S1-3 now. This time around, anyway! I was watching them all on my own, thinking there was nobody else left at the C4 forums who liked the show. Sniffle. Any consensus on favourite episodes?

Favourite episodes? Man, there are so many! Eek

One episode that really sticks in my head is 'The Coming of Shadows'. It was the first really BIG episode, and it completely blew me away! I was amazed that they could cram all that story into 45 mins, as well as some amazing SFX, and it never felt forced. And it had wonderfull performances, particuarly by Katsulas & Jurasik. G'Kar went through every emotion, and he even gave us a good comedy scene when the Emperor collapses before he could kill him.
A totally brilliant episode. And although later episode have probably been better, that was the first one that really had my jaw on the floor! Cool

Coming of shadows- yeah, i do love that one!- it's the first time we see a ranger! (i kid, i kid!)

Erm, favorite episode on the 1st season'd be...Parliment of dreams. It's nice, it's happy- it shows our charecters before the fire and darkness etc... and you have londo being drunk and throwing a break roll and hitting sinclairs head (note the drunken line of people dancing in the background), and at the re-birth ceremony when G'kar swaps his fruit with Ivanovas (I think it's behind one of Delenns close ups)... just thoses little things that make ranger laugh...

"But in purple, I am stunning!"

From season 4 - Endgame. Overall, Sleeping in Light.

Of the lesser respected episodes however, Comes the Inquisitor has always been a personal favourite.

Sacrilege! Liking Endgame. Silly Marcus. Frown Is Comes The Inquisitor one of the less respected episodes then, Angel? I've always really liked it. I still have it on tape somewhere, from its first showing (complete with the Ripper murders happening in the West End!), which proves how much I must have liked it! That and the two War Without Ends. Yes Crazy-Ranger, the bit where paranoid G'Kar swaps his fruit in the background is very funny.

First Season - And The Sky Full Of Stars; Signs And Portents; Babylon Squared
Second Season - In The Shadow Of Z'ha'dum; Comes The Inquisitor; The Fall Of Night
Third Season - Exogenesis; Interludes And Examinations; War Without End
Fourth Season - Racing Mars; Intersections In Real Time; The Deconstruction Of Falling Stars
Fifth Season (working from old memories) - A Tragedy Of Telepaths; And All My Dreams, Torn Asunder; Sleeping In Light

So I'm guessing not much of a consensus then, no! Smile

And hey, who was it said that Marcus was just comic relief in Racing Mars?! It was one of you, own up! Who else but Marcus could have shot the Keeper without even looking at it?!

It's an odd one COMES THE INQUISITOR. It's pretty much recognised as a class episode, however it always seems to be overshadowed by the other season 2 heavyweights like COMING OF SHADOWS, IN THE SHADOW OF Z'HA'DUM, THE LONG TWILIGHT STRUGGLE, DIVIDED LOYALTIES and THE FALL OF NIGHT. IMO it's as good as if not better than all of them, with the possible exception of TCOS.

I love ENDGAME, in a lot of ways, the end of the story (literally for some), in others the beginning of it. As an episode it acts almost like a nexus.

First Season - AND THE SKYFULL OF STARS, SIGNS & PORTENTS, BABYLON SQUARED.

Second Season - well see above Smile

Third Season - The whole secession trilogy. SHADOW DANCING, Z'HA'DUM.

Fourth season - ENDGAME amongst others.

Fifth season - All the final 4 or 5.

Comic relief ?? Not me gov Smile

I loved Inquisitor. The gradual build up to the revelation of who Jack is. His whole character as this obsessed type, and the fact that the Vorlons took him from Earth. I do prefer the original version to the ghastly dubbed "East End" version that's on the DVD, though! And isn't it Inquisitor where, at the very end, we get that teasing little glimpse of Kosh reflected in Lyta's eyes? That was a terrific moment.

How do all these revelations work out for those of you who have seen the show first on DVD? I often wonder if they have the same effect as when you have to wait a whole week for the next episode.

Errrgghhh. The waits were terrible between episodes, and then there was the whole Season 5 debacle Frown

INQUISITOR is the episode with the Kosh revelation at the end. That teaser was just too much Smile Good job we knew that the big reveal was coming at the end of FALL OF NIGHT Smile

Wayne Alexander was just brilliant in INQUISITOR.

I liked the waits between episodes! I was at college at the time, watching it all on my little five inch black and white, and after an episode had been screened hundreds of students all over the country used to dash to their libraries, log on, and analyse like crazy!

Did you? I didn't! I mean, I hoped, but I didn't know. It was a great teaser though!

Wayne Alexander, yeah. The ever present guest star! An alien for every occasion. Smile

I remember I first heard about the big reveal in TV Zone magazine just before IN THE SHADOW aired over here. Couldn't really stay away from the spoilers after that, although to be fair the spoilers for B5 weren't that bad, especially the little hints that Joe used ot give us. The reveal is a good example. He'd tell you that it was coming but wouldn't tell you what you'd see.

Wayne Alexander, they never got him in one of those Centauri wigs though Wink

I avoided spoilers like crazy. Joe's hints I didn't mind, as they were just hints - and sometimes red herrings. But I was sooooo careful, especially from the third season. Kosh's death totally floored me! I really wasn't expecting that. I practically reacted like Sheridan. Smile "Kosh!" Still haven't forgiven Joe. Frown Mind you, he did say half the cast refused to speak to him for a week after they filmed that scene!

Finally got around to watching The Face Of The Enemy again last night anyway. Still think Bester's updating of Garibaldi is too long, but there's loads of good stuff in that episode. The scene where they capture Sheridan is beautifully done, and Edgar's speech about dealing with the telepaths, especially where he realises what he's saying, and stumbles over the "Telepath problem" paraphrase, is very nicely done.

It was Ranger who got me into B5 and I spent so much time trying to pry information out of her, simply because I wanted to know. It still makes me laugh that some times I could turn around and pick up on something then ask a question that would destroy all of her attempts to save me from spoilers. I'm like that sometimes.

ah Artemis- I kept the valen thing from her for 2 and 1/2 seasons and half way through War without end she gets it (I could of killed her).

Who called Marcus comic relief! No one reliefs my ranger!! (oh we're getting possesive again!)

Oh, does anyone know when we first start seeing rangers? I though it was in the coming of shadows, but I just watched "Spider in the web" (hey kenickie!) and theres a ranger on the zocalo! Has anyone spotted a ranger before then?

I keep forgetting that Edgars got the anti-telepath serium from shadow tech-and i'm really shocked everytime! (No offence, but the big exposition bit with Bester in the tube does go on-i guess my brain keeps falling asleep- how many times must Walter Koenig have screwed that up!)

Wasn't Talia really an un-interesting charecter? She was a bit dull really! When you consider that Joe came up with the glory that is Marcus...Talia is pale in comparison (heh- i made a funny) (I made a funny! NOOOO Turning American nooo!)

To quote Jason Carter:

"THERE! YOU SEE! BLOODY AMERICANS! THEY ALWAYS GO RIGHT FOR THE GUN!!"

anyway,

BRG is another spoiler avoider!

Angel is the master red herrings! With his hints, winks( Wink), innuendos, cunning misdirections, and clever revealing the truth but dressing it as a dummy, he has led BRG through the first four season with me guessing & speculating about every line of dialoge of meaningfull glance! And although I am usually miles off with my predictions, I get close on a few. And every now and again I land one right on the nose!(like Marcus dieing) And when that happens, I can't help shouting about my brilliant insight on this forum, much to the annoyance of all other posters! Regarding Talia.

I agree, a dull character. If you remember back to my season 1 & 2 comments, I was always complaining that she never had anything interesting to do. And even when she was the main focus of the story- episodes 'Mind War', 'Spider in the Web' & 'A Race Through Dark Places', the B story in these episode are much more interesting & memorable.
In fact, last night I watched a season 2 episode where Talia was in the show for 1 minute. A drunk Vir spilled his drink down her dress, while apologiseing and wipeing her down, he suddenlly relised he was fondeling her boobs! Big Grin A good wee Vir scene, but proof that Talia had little place in the show.(A quality she shared with Warren Keffer Wink)

Lyta is a far more interesting character, IMHO! Smile

Hehe! that scene with vir was funny though. As for Warren- whenever has there been a good charecter called Warren? It's not a good charecter name! Suppose Marcus had been called Warren, It just doesn't work does it? Suppose Lyta had been called chantel-
(ranger is currently ranting with starvation- damn stupid hobbitlike metabolism (not to mention hair and stature))

Going to get cheese and pickle toastie now. Very hungry. mmmmm cheese and pickle..... then watch coming of shadows..... mmmm shadows......

Talia was just a fill-in though, wasn't she. The resident telepath was supposed to be Lyta, but she wasn't available after the pilot. Joe stuck in Talia, but only really came up with something interesting for her in her last few episodes. I liked her relationship with Ivanova, the way there was the gradual breakdown of the mistrust, and the building up of the friendship leading to their affair. It made Talia's collapse that bit more meaningful. Lyta was always the more interesting character though.

As for guessing about Sinclair's fate; we all got that at different moments. Marcus and Ivanova discussing Valen for absolutely no good reason halfway through the adventure was a bit of a giveaway, and it was obvious that something was going to happen to Sinclair after the ageing. Mind you, I confess to getting it at about the same moment Marcus did, with pretty much the same reaction! I love moments like that in the show. Bits you've been building up to for years. Like the first sighting of Kosh. (Smiles happily). Good old Joe!

(I'm now going away to try to think of a good character somewhere called Warren. Smile )

Oh just to show me up! Wink
Okay then, how many other charecters called G'kar can you think of then?

Oh acts of sacrifice- oh dear...Ivanova is stupidly funny! When she takes one of the ambasidors pigtails between her teeth I die of laughter. Damn you Joe you've killed my brain!

There's a G'Kar in Deep Space 9, although I don't think it's spelt that way. He's part of the resistance that Major Kira hangs out with occasionally, when she's having one of her "Which race am I most loyal to?" dilemmas.

Ivanova's 'sex scene' is stupidly funny, yes. The whole thing is bizarre, but you can imagine it working. My personal favourite daft scene is G'Kar and Londo trapped in the lift, though. When G'Kar keeps laughing it's just about the funniest thing ever. Smile

wasn't she harry kim AND Teal'qs girlfriend? (scary scary!- who'd date harry?)

it's great fun spotting cult tv stars in B5, they seem to have everyone! David Mcalum, Ian Mcshane (why? why?) Tracy Scoggins (and again: WHY?) Walter Koenig, Majel Barrett, Penn and Teller...

its all good (But Ian Mcshane??!!- Burn lovejoy Burn!!)

And now for something completely different... a man with a hole in his mind.

funniest scene ever in B5? - "Put your face into the book-" - possibly. Refa getting Narned, (Oh look, I turned Narn into a past participle!) Marcus playing with his pike while Franklin and No 1 have sex ("Dr Freud- call your office please!),

ne way; quote of the day:
