They let through any number of naughty British words, though.

anyhoo...back to the doc, did anyone notice the rhino looking creature in what seemed to be a sontaran uniform, just looked on you tube and it definatly looks like thier style...'scitin' i say

yep, noticed the Sontaron rhino. Definitly noticed the Black Dalek. And did NOT see Capt Jack, seeing as we all heard the Tardis take him away. Well it`s 86 days til the end of march, new series, hopefully, should have started by then!

ah yes, but we only heard the tardis noise, was it the doc or *insert dramatic music here* another rogue timelord, the master perhaps? and was that dalek sec at the end, i remember the daleks and sontarans having some sort of alliance in the past...

The "Sontaran rhinos" are apparently called Judoon, and don't they look cool?! And no, no Jack, as those episodes haven't been filmed yet! So there are no clips available for trailers.

That`s as may be, but if it was a dalek or sontarron ship, why did the Doctor`s hand get all excited? You`re right though about the Master`s ship. That also made the Tardis engine noise when it materialised. I know the Master is imprisoned somewhere on the Tardis, but I don`t know what happened to his ship. Mickey??

The Master's TARDIS could be anywhere. He didn't have it in The Enemy Within. He just wanted the Doctor's, and wound up rather closer to it than he'd intended. Theoretically he could have escaped out into the Matrix, but RTD allegedly intends to leave him in the past, so I don't expect to see him.

Did the Master`s Tardis sound the same as The Doctor`s Tardis? I seem to remember an ep where the Master`s Tardis was disguised as a fireplace, into which he escaped and dematerialised. I`m sure it sounded the same, but that part could be my imagination (or false memory)

TARDISes in the old series all sounded the same, yes. More or less.

the Judoon do indeed look cool, Hope rtd rethinks that decision, the return of the old villains connects it with previous incarnations for us who remember the 70's show.

I`m not sure I want Too much harping back on the original show. The odd nod now and again, for sure. But not an old foe every new series. We`ve had the Daleks. We`ve had the cybermen. We`ve had the Daleks and the cybermen together. Let this incarnation have a chance at creating an iconic baddie species of its own. If the show keeps harping back on the old stuff, it will eventually suffer for it. Because no other baddies are as well known as the Daleks or the Cybermen, and who need virtually no introduction. But any other baddie will need explaining to the new fans, or else they`ll feel alienated, and start to drift away. And if the baddies are explained, then the old fans will start to drift away because they are bored and have heard it all before probably on several occasions.

One of the things about doctor who is he show never really explained back stories too much, unless it was the main story, any baddies appearance was usually followed by the doctor saying 'i've met them before', of course I wouldn't want any appearance to be at the detriment of the current shows story telling or pace.

Watching Who in the eighties, all I got from the Doctor was "It's the Master!" If you'd been watching back in 1971, when he cropped up for the first time, you'd have had the full explanation; but if you weren't born then, hard luck! It hardly detracted from the story. It was the same with regeneration. Older viewers might have heard the full explanation back in 1966, when it happened first, or in 1970, when the Time Lords forced it on the Doctor; but in 1974, and 1981, etc, it was just "the Doctor glows and changes bodies". And if you don't understand it hard luck. But people did understand it, because people have brains. It really annoyed me the way RTD felt that today's viewers needed it all laid out in black and white. "It's the Master!" is all that viewers need to hear. That and the tone of voice it's said in. The rest comes from their interaction.

But don`t you think that todays generation want everything explained to them in detail because they either do not, or can not think for themselves? On many messages boards covering many fandoms there are posts from younger fans (up to mid 20s) who want the answers up there on screen to see. They don`t seem to appreciate that sometimes the journey to an answer is just as much fun as the answer itself. Whereas you and I will go looking on the internet to find answers to questions, youngsters can`t be bothered to look and want it on screen there and then. I`m explaining what I mean really badly, I know.

I don't think that "the younger generation" is like that, no. *Points at Becky, amongst others* I certainly think that a large section of society is like that, though, yes. A big chunk of OG has been annoying the hell out of me lately in that way, wanting Every. Bloody. Thing explained to them in the plot. But as Martin Sheen once said in The West Wing - "It's not our job to cater to the lowest common denominator. It's our job to raise it." And that goes for all of us, TV producers included. Not just fictional American presidents.

I've recently watched 'Inferno', which is at the end of Jon Pertwee's first season.
He uses something that looks very much like the sonic screwdriver, but it is only used to open a specific door and is called a 'door handle'. I don't know the first tim | |
