It's a show that I was desperate to see for years. The others in my family used to watch it after I'd gone to bed, and they'd all talk about how great it was. There was a life-sized poster of Ben Murphy on the bedroom wall throughout my childhood, left over by my eldest sister, who was besotted. I still have it, actually, though it's not up anymore. I've grown too fond of it to throw it out. When I finally saw the series, though... well, I liked it the first time around, but I don't like it anymore. Too lightweight, I think. Too much comedy, not enough action. Likeable leads, though. Damned shame about Pete Duel. His replacement was never quite as good.

My sister would force me to watch it and had the posters on her wall. Did one of the characters get shot and killed while filming this? ____(OO=[II]=OO)___ (O=0000=O) Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that, who cares? ...He's a mile away and you've got his shoes.

Characters? No. Actors? Not quite. Pete Duel committed suicide.

Honey, was it a 70s or 80s show, it was really funny,Pity about Pete Duel, Ben Murphy did appear in a few things after the show I think. Pity the way that typecasting is the deathnail for so many actors, isnt it?

Hannibel Heyes and Kid Curry. Outlaws trying to go straight, but who keep getting "persuaded" by a lawman to do his dirty work, with the promise of pardons for them. Eventually. They used to lead the "hole in the Wall" gang of outlaws. Hmmm.... methinks I remember far too much of a TV show I haven`t seen since it first aired on Brit TV. BUt I used to love Westerns in those days. Also adored "Lancer", with James Stacy playing Johnny Madrid. James had a promising career until he had a motorcycle accident and lost an arm and a leg. Saw him in another western after he recovered, hopping along on a crutch, hiding behind a big bushy beard. Prior to his accident he used to boast that his motorcycle was 5mph faster than Steve McQueen`s. "High Chapparral" was another fav show at the time. Manolito Montoya, played by actor Henry Darrow was my fav in that. And for a piece of useless information, one of the other stars of High Chapparral was a charactor actor called Cameron Mitchell. I STILL can`t get used to that name appearing in Stargate SG1.

I loved Westerns too. Still do, actually! Bonanza, The High Chaparral and Laramie were my favourites. I spent probably far too much of my time as a kid pretending to be Little Joe, Mano, or Jess Harper. Some episodes of Bonanza are available on DVD now, and it's just as good as ever. I wish they're release The High Chaparral too.

I saw some Bonanza DVDs in a local charity shop. I, too, wish they would release High Chaparral AND Lancer on DVD. If I remember correctly, the opening credits of HC was very similar to Bonanza, which I assumed meant that they were created by the same people. However, I was very young when I thought that, so I`m probably mistaken. Do you also remember The Virginian?

I only saw The Virginian in a recent repeat showing. I think the Beeb stuck it on for a while in the Diagnosis: Murder slot about five or six years ago. Didn't enjoy it, I'm afraid. Bit po-faced for my liking. Lancer I've not seen at all. You're right about the titles of Bonanza and HC. The closing titles both featured paintings. A particular style of paintings, reminiscent of those done on adobe walls if I remember correctly. With HC the pictures were probably more of a Mexican flavour, but I remember thinking that they seemed to have been done by the same people. Their theme tunes weren't a million miles apart either.

I`ve imdb`d the Virginian this morning, and while the actor I remember was listed, he wasn`t in as many eps as I seem to remember him being in. I thought James Drury was the star of the show, but he wasn`t. And I`ve just read the mini biog of James Stacy, and wish I hadn`t.

James Drury was the title character! You can't count on the IMDb for TV series anymore, I'm afraid. Just had a look there myself, and Doug McClure is listed as having done three episodes. Huh?! I've seen more than that, and he was in all of them. He was one of the stars! For some reason, over the course of the last year, the IMDb has become distinctly crap as a resource. It used to be the number one place to go to, but lately its cast listings especially are rubbish. And apparently it's had a face lift today, and I do not approve.

Alias Smith & Jones was based on Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid.

Not sure the IMDb boards are a great loss to anybody. They're scary! As for OG, they'll send you a forgotten password; the staff are very friendly. I can ask one of the mods about it if you like. You no longer have access to your e-mail address, is that right? So the log-in details would have to be sent to a new password? They might say that it would be simpler to re-register, but I will ask if you want.

I`ve got all my email accounts back now, thanks. Now it`s only a case of patiently searching for web addresses and asking for login details.
