or, not so much "in harmony" as never together enough to argue. Big Grin

My parents sit in different rooms in the evenings these days, with their respective televisions, as even just between the two of them they can't agree on what to watch! There used to be eight of us in that family, with only one TV between us! Goodness knows how we coped.

Actually we didn't. Dad just declared everything to be "Not the kind of thing we want to watch." Roll Eyes Mostly all the things I most wanted to watch!

Eight of you! Sounds like it was busy. There's only me here.

Did your dad actually say that? He sounds a bit overbearing, not to be cheeky or anything.

I've always had my own telly from the age of about 10 so I always watched whatever I wanted, plus, when you're little all the stuff you want to watch is on in the afternoon-early evening anyway. My mum liked STNG and even knows what a Klingon is so that was OK. It's actually got worse as I've got older. She likes detective stuff like Judge John Deed and I'm more for the Nip/Tuck, Shameless things.

There was absolutely NOTHING on last night. I just read my book.

Yes he did, frequently. And yes, he is! He's mellowed a bit with age, though. I'm impressed that your mother likes ST:TNG. My mother is opposed to anything that even approaches sci-fi, and seems to assume that every other female on the planet save a few freaks are the same. I would say "It's her generation" but it's not. Not really. She just doesn't want to watch anything that isn't: a) a hospital documentary, hopefully involving sick kids, or b) a cosy drama series like Midsommer Murders. Dad likes the real bottom of the barrel sit-coms. He never laughs, either, unless there's somebody in the room with him. It's weird. Then he does this really loud, guffawing laugh that sounds dead fake. But then I ceased to try to understand my father when I was about seven. The guy thought Knight Rider was "illogical nonsense". Roll Eyes There's no comprehending people like that... Big Grin

As for last night, there was Inspector Lynley, a show of such astounding dreadfulness that it amazes me. I don't think I've missed an episode yet! Big Grin Why Nat Parker keeps going back to it is one of the great unanswered questions in entertainment. Lynley makes that Martin Kemp/Joe Duttine cop show over on ITV a year or two back look like Z-Cars.

Think mum watched that. Don't have Sky in my room so never really watch it.

Actually, people don't laugh as much on their own as they do with company. I might find something funny but it's not often that I actually laugh out loud. Although I don't do it loads when there's someone there I do do it more, probably because there's someone in with you on the joke. That Professor Whatsisname looked into it in that programme he did on instinct. You also laugh more when there's someone you fancy there too, or someone you're trying to impress. You make more noise when you hurt yourself or get scared. If I'm watching a film that makes me jump I'm a lot worse if I'm at the cinema or a mate is watching it with me. Now I've noiced I do it I try not to though Smile

My dad's just annoying. He's a complete perv for a start and because he didn't bring me up he doesn't really relate to me as his kid but as just another person, which means sometimes he makes the most inappropriate comments about women that make me want to gag. He's also incapable of having a normal conversation as he spends most of his life in bars and communicates in shallow meaningless jokes and comments, the kind of conversation you have with a stranger, not with someone who is supposed to share half of your genes. He's the laziest person I have ever known in my life and I don't think I've had dialog with him that's satisfied me since I was about 9. I think we're doing well don't you? Big Grin

It sounds like your relationship with him is about as functional as my relationship is with my dad! I'd say that was doing very well indeed! Big Grin

Professor Whatsisname is totally wrong with me, then. If there's anybody present I don't make any noise at all. Only time I'm really going to laugh, or get into the programme at all is when I'm on my own. Why would you make more noise when you hurt yourself if there's somebody else present? "That does not compute."

Because your body is saying 'I'm hurt, I need help, I need sympathy, etc..... If there's no one there what's point in making a noise. Of course I'm only talking about little stuff, not if you're really hurt.

I think the point that you're very shy might interfere with the way that someone would be if they weren't. Adding in shyness alters the reaction. Are you really that shy! Why do you care what people think so much?

Anyone else watch that Dr Who Night on the beeb earlier on?

Very Interesting I thought. I quite enjoyed it, although it was a bit of a shock at how much both Bakers had changed.

I watched the documentary last time it was on, so I didn't bother with it this time. It's not a bad one, but (possibly since the advent of all those damn "Top 100" shows) I'm thoroughly sick of the Talking Head format.

Well, I've just seen it and the verdict was that it wasn't too bad. Will give it a go next week but I'm not totally convinced.

i was plesantly surpirsed by this episoide, i never watched dr who, never very much intrested but i got to admit, it's quite a watchable show, i am not happy about Billie Piper but i probable tolorate her for 40 minutes in a week. i found certainly stuff very amusing yet at the same time not exciting, dr who who just act like mr bean, intresting personality, still walking dummie was a bad start but given this was first episoide i probably shouldn't be too harsh , i maybe never look those shop dummie in same way again , which mean it was effective visual effect, i just hope there don't keep using CGI too much on this show, it would just become a little tiresome. i'm not keen episoide 2 but since i slighly like this episoide i might give it a chance. still just hope it doesn't clash with buffy.
