Just incase no-one know this the Original Pilot of Star Trek, the one before the eventual original series is being shown on BBC2 today at 2:55pm on bbc2 and then followed by The Next Generation Pilot right after it at 4pm! How good is that
Whoops pressed post now by accident. The original Star Trek Stars Jeffrey Hunter as Captain Pike, but there are the usual regulars such as Leonard Nimoy and Majel Barrett in the cast. Going to set up my video to record them both, will be some good watching this evening I guess this kills the rumours that Channel 4 were getting Star Treks
It's been years since I last watched the early years of TNG, and god knows when I last say TOS! It really makes a saturday afternoon.
Although, this coming saturday will be a problem! I have got the Hungarian GP qualifying on ITV, Star Trek on BBC2, and Killie's first home game! As I'll be at Rugby Park, I'll need to try and tape the GP & Trek. I just hope they don't clash. BRG
PS- I hope BBC2 sticks with Star Trek. Channel 5 treated Voyager like dirt. The dropped it from Saturday night without warning, then when it popped up in weekday afternoons, they dropped it after a few weeks. With all the crap on that channel you would think they could spare an hour for Voyager.
Hold firm BBC, we wand weekly Trek on terrestrial telly!
the best thing about original trek is the longer episodes, closer to 50minutes rather than 40minutes. ive watched season 1 on dvd recently, and i am at work when its on so that sucks. two weeks holiday coming up though so thats what i will be doing on my saturday afternoons

Roll on season 3 of TNG though!
Indeed, season 3 is when TNG really hits top-gear. Unfortunatly the reverse is true of TOS! Which has a few classic eps but is mostly a disapointing season.
Season 1&2 of TNG are still very watchable, with some genuine classic episodes in these season, with season 2 episode Q Who one of the finest episodes of any Star Trek series.
But why the hell did Gene Rodenberry not cast a Chief Engineer in season 1 of TNG? One of the most bizzare errors in Star Trek history. IMHO! BRG
Originally posted by StarFleet: There is a chief engineer, he just was not totally utalised in the first season.
Ah, but not as a main cast member. Can you imagine TOS without Scotty or Enterprise without Trip? TNG obviously suffered without a main character as chief engineer, hence Geordi was switched to that role in season 2.
So far on BBC2, there have been 2 chief engineers in the episodes so far, and both with Scottish names! You had MacDougall in 'The Naked Now', a fiesty woman. And last week we had Argyle, a gruff bloke with a beard. But you really need Geordi down there! BRG
I noticed we had another engineer on saturday, this time assistant chief engineer Singh, who suffered untimely death! Also it was interesting to see that Geordi was incharge of sensor maintinance, and was also helping Singh repair warp drive. So perhaps they were already decided to move Geordi from helm to engineering at this early stage. BRG
PS- You must admit, part of you was hoping the Edo did indeed execute Wesley in the episode 'Justice', just think, we would have been rid of the brat for good!
I know we only had one episode of TNG because of the athletics, but the episode shown was Arsenal of Freedom, that is a late season1 episode. They had shown every episode in order up to Haven last Suaturday, then without warning they skip about 10 eps! I hope the get back on track next week, as they have jumped past some real gems.
And Starfleet, yet another season 1 Chief Engineer. This time Lt. Logan, who tried to oust Geordie from command, the dirty bounder! BRG
Do i see a pointless DVD realease for the 3 seasons in a REMASTERED packaging then? It will definately be good to watch if it ever reaches british shores though
Im still not sure which in the end will be better, the original series or the original remastered series. I for one love little quirks you get in older sci-fi programs, like a transporter beam not working or a phaser not phasering :P but to see TOS in full glory and to see the enterprise in lovely rendered 3D models (along with i presume the other ships, bases etc. etc.) will just be fantastic to see. As long as the special effects added actually fit with the surroundings. I really didnt like the ones Lucas put in star wars, so as long as its not like that i think i will definately love looking at the visuals!
It's a shame though as they wont be showing the episodes in order of appearance, but then that doesnt really matter, Episodes rarely followed on from one another in TOS.
Balance of Terror is indeed an excellent episode to start with. The cat & mouse engagement between the Enterprise and the Romulan Bird of Prey is one of the finest hours of any Star Trek series. With state of the art CGI, this should be a mindblowing experiance!
Also, in Errand of Mercy, the Klingon ship that battles the Enterprise in never seen, only a wierd light in the distance is shown. It would be cool to see the D7 Heavy Cruiser in this ep. BRG
