Bruce Campbell's book is great, yes.

Had a look through my bookcases, hunting for thick'n'chunky books to suggest, and here's a few recommendations.

- The Crow Road (out on DVD soon! Smile)
- Eclipse Of The Century (totally awesome)
- Some Other Rainbow (kinda needs An Evil Cradling as a companion read, though that isn't think'n'chunky. Also goes rather well with Island Race and Between Extremes, which are kinda chunky).
- Trilobite! (which is rather self-explanatory).

Now that'd build up your biceps, carrying that lot round Borneo! Wink

Oh that's right. I remember reading something about it in The Eye last week. Not that interested in the film though, if I'm honest.

What are those books about? Not going to buy one just one the strength of a title. Don't want anything too deep, Lord of the Rings will give me plenty of heavy stuff. Think I'll take Becca's sugesstion. Lots of little ones will weigh just as much as big ones and that way if I don't like something I don't lose a third of my reading material if I leave it somewhere. The problem is that if I really love a book I want to keep it, not leave it Frown. That's why I'm buying an old copy of LOTR.

(Bangs head against wall). Amazon, Absolom. Amazon! Razz

- The Crow Road - a university student hunts for his vanished uncle. "It all started the day my grandmother exploded."

- Eclipse Of The Century - a university student travels to Russia after an accident that nearly killed him.

- Some Other Rainbow - Beirut, 1986-1991, by John McCarthy. Also London 1986-1991, by Jill Morrell.

- An Evil Cradling - Beirut, 1986-1990, by Brian Keenan.

- Island Race - England 1992. John McCarthy and Sandi Toksvig try to sail around the coast of Britain without drowning. Very funny.

- Between Extremes - South America, 1998. John McCarthy and Brian Keenan attempt to test their Beirut-inspired theory of the practicalities of yak farming in Patagonia. Sadly the altitude scuppered them, and they had to conclude that the world would have to do without Patagonian yak yoghurt, at least for the foreseeable future.

- Trilobite, by the wonderful Richard Fortey. About, er... trilobites. Wink

There were no Stephen King books that caught my eye in the library, I ended up getting another Michael Connelly.

I know Mickey, but I'm lazy Smile

I was on the computer today and a movement out of the window caught my eye. I looked up and there was a lovely doe in the bracken, nibbling away and generally looking lovely. Was gazing at her, feeling bloody lucky that I live in a place where this kind of thing happens and then her fawn jumped out of the undergrowth and they just both stood there. Was so amazing. Smile And I saw a woodpecker banging away at a tree and a few weeks ago I saw a green woodpecker feeding one of her young in the field. Hate having to be inside writing up bloody project Mad

Not sure but it might be the mums chasing away their young so they find their own territories. They chase each other on the sweet chestnut tree outside our window aswell. The mother hangs upside down while she eats nuts Big Grin(and comes in our kitchen sometimes, cheeky bugger). If you throw them something they're really blind. If they don't see it happen right infront of their face they spend ages sniffing for it. The mum's started to bury stuff too, it looks so cute. Smile

There was a tame one around last year, she'd eat nuts from my hand, but doesn't seem to be around anymore.
They're cute as long as they don't bury stuff in the flowerpots outside.....I found pansies ripped out on the ground last week, grrrr!

Wow, not had one that tame. My mates looked after 3 baby ones that my other mate smuggled out of the vets where she worked before they could be put to sleep. They're really tame when they're little and they all fell asleep in my coat sleeve *cuteness*. As they got older they became more wild and when one of them hissed at my mate from the curtains she said they had to go LOL!

Well at least they did become wild. It would have been terribly awkward if they hadn't! That's why it's so dodgy hand-rearing wild animals. There's a wildlife centre near where I live that does a sterling job in that sort of thing, but I never could. I'd want to cuddle everything, and make it friendly! Roll Eyes

My old garden was full of squirrels that used to steal all the birds' nut holders. I've only seen a couple since moving though. I see more deer now though. They were less common where I used to live, but there's a lot of woodland round now, and far less houses, and there's a couple of pairs nearby. Blasted dog chases them when we're out walking! Mind you, it's awfully nice to see them run.

My mate used to work in the Pet Rescue vet's so she knew they would get wilder as they got older. My mates were worried about it but as soon as they let them go they started doing what was natural. Who knows if they survived but they were fat when they were let go Smile

Just opened up If Chins Could Kill and it's a signed copy!!!!!!!!!! Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile It's very funny and I like it a lot, but he doesn't swear, at all and it's a little odd. He doesn't even say hell! I'm not saying people have to swear but I've never met anyone that doesn't say hell or damn!

Maybe he wanted the book to be family suitable? He has a whole lot of fans of all ages, especially since Herc and Xena.

I'm very happy for you, Absolom! Smile

I suppose I could use that as a reference point, to find out where in the book you're up to. Incidentally, does the first chapter remind you of Malcolm In The Middle?!
