Here here! Never read Dickens, don't intend to. I have just started reading the entire works of Oscar Wilde but that's becasue I've seen loads of films made from his books and they are brilliant. The man has an amazing sense of humour and even though it's a little hard going I think it will be worth it in the end. Don't like reading Shakespere or watching the plays either, though I thought the films were very good. I know that to a purist that might sound ignorant but like Verno says they're supposed to be watched, not read. The plays are usually small scale, low budget and the costumes are pants (as in rubbish, not that they only wear pants! ). I know that your suppsed to be listening to the play but I think you need eveything for a full effect and they don't have it. The films on the other hand have it all going for them, scale, budget, quality and very good actors, especially thingamy bob that used to be married to Emma Thompson (can't remember his name! On the tip of my tongue....Arrgghh. That is going to drive me mad!) Kenneth Brannagh! Yes that's it . Thank god! That would have bugged me for ages. Love him, think he's brilliant. The gene pool could use a little chlorine!

I've only read a few of Shakespeare's plays, I loved Hamlet and Much Ado About Nothing - but as Verno says, I don't think I would have enjoyed them as much had I read them on my own(I did them for English Lit A-Level). Never read any Dickens, but have read Thomas Hardy and enjoyed his work, heavy-going at times emotionally though! I loved Kenneth Branagh as Gilderoy Lockhart in Harry Potter 2! He was good in 'Much Ado..' too - I remember watching that film in my A-level class and shamefully drooling over Keanu Reeves whenever he appeared on screen! ****668 - The Neighbour Of The Beast****

That's what Keanu's for!
My mate's met him. Said he's a really nice guy and his favorite alcoholic drinks are Jack Daniels or Drambuie (which is a whisky liquer if you're not sure). Prefer proper whisky myself but the man just keeps getting better and better.

I always thought the Pratchett books would make excellent films. Richard Dean Anderson playing Vimes. Angus Deayton as Vetinari (Deayton's got that intelligent, bad guy vibe, don't you think?!). Someone like Tom Baker as Ridcully. I don't know who could play Death, though. Maybe Kelsey Grammer, he'd be pretty funny, and has the deep voice.
Anyone who hasn't read the Pratchett books will be totally confused by this. Anyone who has will be going 'Tom Baker as Ridcully, are you mad?!!'.
See a penny, pick it up and all day long you'll have....a penny...

Keanu is pretty cool. I can't believe the transformation since the Bill and Ted days. Sumaiya

Ohhh, I'd love to meet Keanu.....I've had a crush on him since Bill & Ted! He sounds like a lovely guy, and while I'm not a big drinker I'm a bit partial to the odd Jack Daniels myself! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I tried to get into the Terry Pratchett 'Discworld' series after a friend recommended them, but I just didn't get it. Maybe I'll try again one day, but there were too many initial characters for me to take in at the time. ****668 - The Neighbour Of The Beast****

LMAO That was very funny. The funniest movie they did was when they met the Princesses. I think they were about to fail history or something and Rufus sent them back in time to learn stuff. They met Freud, Genghis Khan etc The grim reaper one was very funny as well. What ever happened to the actor who played Bill? Sumaiya

It's funny how one got famous and the other didn't. Used to love Bill and Ted. Memories!
Terry pratchet rules! It's just so clever and just mad. The man is a genius.

Yeah, Alex Winter.....I don't know, I think he made a couple of films - wonder where he is now? I love the way threads can go off on tangents(I think it was my fault for mentioning Keanu, lol) - from books to Bill & Ted, EXCELLENT! Also, remember the scene with Napoleon at the Bowling Alley? LMAO! ****668 - The Neighbour Of The Beast****

OK back to the topic of the thread I finished reading Carrie by Stephen King and really enjoyed it. It was quite disturbing though. I'm quite excited now - I've discovered a new author I like Sumaiya

We are WYLD STALLYNS *hideous guitar noise* Sorry to go off topic again but I love Bill & Ted. I know all the words I think that B&T was the first Keanu film I ever saw. My older sis has been in love with Keanu since she was 12 (she is now 26). Bless him. Back on track. Glad you enjoyed 'Carrie' Sumaiya. Which SK will you read next ? Maybe since you have started with one of his early books you should carry on in a similar vein. I've just finished The Gunslinger (the first of The Dark Tower series). It is a short book but very involving and made me want to read the others to find out all about Roland and his story. I started 'The Drawing Of The Three' last night. I reckon it will take me about a week to read. I also got 'Hey Nostradamus' by Douglas Coupland from the library. I have read several of his other books and thorougly enjoyed them so I have pretty high expectations for this one. AC Milan:European Champions,European Supercup & Coppa Italia winners 2003

It's always good when that happens and he's written a hell of a lot of stuff so you won't be running out for a long time to come. The gene pool could use a little chlorine!

I'm not sure which one, I did have 'the girl who loved Tom Gordon' but I think my sis took it back to the library. Any recommendations? Sumaiya

Yes. Pet Sematary then IT and then Christine. If you have not been spooked out of your wits just carry on from there If you want a list of all his books just let me know. AC Milan:European Champions, European Supercup & Coppa Italia winners 2003 "What do you mean this isn't a real show ?"

Pet Semetary rocks. Not read Christine yet.

Verno, you are in for SUCH a treat reading The Dark Tower - it just gets better and better, and when the latest 'episode' came out recently ("Wolves of the Calla"), I cancelled everything that weekend and read the whole 800+ pages over two and a half days.
Has anybody read "Black House" by King and Straub? After the delights of "The Talisman" I bought this but can't get into it because it's written in the present tense, which seems odd. Does it get easier as it goes along?

I found it hard to get into, you're not the only one, Jenna! It did get easier as I got through the book, but while it's a good book I think it pales in comparison to The Talisman. ****668 - The Neighbour Of The Beast****
