has anyone noticed that in derren browns new show trick or treat... the cards that say 'trick' or 'treat' can actually be turned upside down to say the other word. So trick could be turned upsidedown to say treat and vis versa. So basically even if the person picks a treat he can give them a trick!! Thats so unfair! And defeats the whole concept of the show, that he is meant to know what they will pick etc.

I'm not sure about his trick on the blond guy. He seemed so bewildered at the end.

How does he get around all the legal stuff in his tricks? i Missed the beginning.. did that guy (taken abroad in phone booth) know Derren was going to try something and give permission otherwise could you not take legal action? And are there long term physiclogical (sp?) problems? Especially with that one last series where the guy played the arcade game then got transported to the game in real life?

Derren got him to sign a contract. Mind you, this was in the early hours of the morning, in the semi-darkness, and the poor bloke was half asleep! (The blond guy, not Derren obviously!)

Derren doesn't claim to be psychic, he does however claim to be a psychological illusionist and magician. I noticed the card said trick and treat depending on the way it was viewed (all part of the fun of watching the guy - trying to unravel what he does). Hopefully he'll take note and use this more obvious slip to drive himself forward to producing great effects that keep us guessing longer.

Yeah I got onto that too. Both cards have both words written on them in a kind of interchangable writing. About fairness though, that isn't the point. The show is about control isn't it. All of the participents will get the Trick card I think.

Did anyone start getting headaches at the end of the show tonight? I think those eeirie noises had something to do with it.

The two cards are identical and are examples of what are called "Ambigrams". The computer scientist Douglas Hofstadter and the artist Scott Kim have each done loads of them which you can probably find through Google.

zozo: It doesn't say that he is meant to know what they will pick.

fellow fraise blonde: do you mean psychological or physiological?

I think they meant psychological, but it was almost psychic-logical, which is quite a nice new word!

I used to make ambigrams - great fun.

Actually, I'm a bit disappointed by this series. I think Derren is giving too much away about how he achieves the stunts - or maybe that's just because I've read his book...

do you the participants on the show really lose control of what they are doing? If so, it's really amazing. Talented guy!

there is control for both people. however Derren Uses his tools to suggests certain things to the people, so the guy who becomes a dummie has had all these messages forced on him, and he starts thinkin he's dummie.. but if it was becoming too stresful then derren would stop the show and bring the guy out of that mind set..

The new tour is amazing...Derren really gets into the minds of the whole audience and makes it look like he is not even trying..

The trick or treat ha already been planed for each participant but it gives them a sense of responciblity of what they pick.. trick or treat.. the old lady with the poker game was always going to be a treat for her. Derren would never put someone of her age through anything stressful.

Really love his work it just amazing.. keep it coming

I'll sign a contract to let Derren Brown do anything to me!!!

Right, i noticed this but could never really tell if this was the case. I reckon it's too obvious and it's we are supposed to realise it, as we get close ups of the cards all the time, and if he wanted to cheat, there would be simpler ways of doing it. Maybe he will mention it in the last episode of trick or treat.
Also, does anyone know what he was talking about at the end of tonights episode, he sed she'd played since she was seven or something, i didnt quite get it

Ambigrams have become well known since Dan brown books so i think that he's clever enough to realise that people are going to get what is happening. Like leon said if he wanted to cheat i'm sure that he could do it a million different ways.

Err... yes, he convinced her that she had never played before, even though she was clearly quite proficient. He was sort of doing the same thing he did on those students in Las Vegas, when he convinced one that she was calling colours by the wrong names (he subliminally refers to this in the intro by using the same words he used on them). Anyway - I was amazed, until he explained, and then it all made sense. I expect he also picked a piece he knew that she had played before. But I think the trick was on us!

It was good to see the last two participants getting treats - the show was heading in a very dark direction after the ventriloquist's dummy shennanigans.

Mind you, it looks like these two treats might be just to lure us into a false state of security - the final two eps both involve tricks (based on the trusty Radio Times, at least!)

But hey, luring participants (in person or at home from behind the sofa) into a false state is what the show's all about, right?!?
