I'm sure that all the polluting transport used will be offset by the bio-degradable packaging the over priced burgers and hot dogs will be served in...

How does Bono change a light bulb?

He just stands still holding it and the world revolves around him.

It is of course impossible. Politicians are going to have to be forced by public opinion to think further ahead than the next election.

Fair enough but highlighting the impoverishment of the Chinese people (the vast majority anyway) was not the point of Live Aid (famine) or Live 8 (African poverty) was it!

Yes they had the main aim of

Hilarious, reminds me of a story I heard about the last time U2 played the SECC in Glasgow.

Not too sure if this actually happened but still funny...

The crowd had been waiting for agees, then eventualy U2 graced them with their presence. But instead of getting straight into any of their songs Bono just stood up there in the middle of the stage just starring at the crowd. Anyway Bono starts clicking his fingers roughly every three seconds. This goes on for what seems to the crowd as ten minutes. Eventually Bono steps up to mike and says that "everytime I click my fingers a young child in Africa dies of starvation". Right after that profound statement a member of the crowd shouts to the front stage "stop ****ing doin' it then".

... well I found it funny anyway Razz

Big Grin

I'm sure Bono feels he has that power to kill someone with the click of his magic Irish fingers..

That band have always bored me senseless anyway.

The situation is more complex than that. Europes politicians are thinking ahead of the next elections. Pledges have beeb made by the EU to cut carbon emmissions significantly in an agreed time frame. Neither the US or China have yet signed up to such a pledge, and it will not be public opinion that kick starts their leaders into action. The US sees China as an economic threat, and will never curtail it's own industrial growth while theirs grows and grows year on year. China and India, believe it to be their right to have the prosperity that the west enjoyed throughout the 20th century. Which of course it is.

We can have as many concerts as we like. We can wear wrist bands and Europe can even act on it's good intentions, but unless the US shuts down much of its industry and turns it's back on the car, and China agrees to not replace the US as a superpower, we're screwed! I cant see either of things happening can you?

A group of self selected, self important, self promoting former pop musicians had zilch to do with the economic development in China. (apart from maybe the Chinese pirating their cd's)

It is globalization coupled with the desire of the Chinese to become rich and follow appropriate economic policies to do so, that has resulted in the growth in China.

Perhaps the live Aid concert was a fresh idea in the eighties this "Live Earth Event" does not even have that going for it.
