I don't really see your point.

The Olypic facilities are to be built on a brown field inner london waste land

Facilities in manchester developed for the commonwealth games will be used - reducing the over all construction bill massively

The exit stategy in terms of the re-use of sporting facilities is already secured with the BAA (not the airport the Athletic association Smile )

The Olympic Village will be sold as very affordable housing

I really cannot understand your remark about the Americans weight and what relevance it has to the Olympics being developed in London.

At last Britain has something to celebrate following recent abject failures at football, cricket and rugby.

Yeah let's cancel anything that involves people coming together.

Let's just all sit around and grumble about Iran/Iraq/Afgan/Religion/Old People etc.

Good point...its nice to hear of some positive British news.

Even those who don't like the Olympics must be happy to see their papers and TV/Rdio being upbeat about this country for once.

As I said in above a few post up 'Watching all those Chinese happy faces they seem so proud to be staging the event, that was somthing really nice to see.'

China may not have intended that the Games would speed up the pace of social change. But that's what is happening

quote:
Beijingers want us to like them. That is the most obvious thing about being here for the Games. This impression comes most obviously from the hordes of volunteers, most of them students. They are all still working hard and still smiling incessantly, even though the novelty has worn off. Again, they are doing this not because they have been told to, but because they want to.

I hope there was no Spanish chaps making slitty eyes in the crowd. That would have ruined everything of course.
