Hundreds of students and activists are marching on the Bank of England at 4pm today to protest against the massive bailouts financial institutions have received.
The demonstration is demanding an end to student poverty, and that working people should not be the victims of job losses and home repossessions while the bankers are being bailed out with public money.
The City of London is home to some of the biggest financial corporations in the world. Despite the corporations being part of the cause of this crisis it is their profits that are being saved.
It might be a very small, insignificant demo - but if reports that the riot squad are there are true suggests that they were anticipating something significant either in size or nature.
I wouldn't mind betting that there are things to make your ears bleed and your guts turn to popcorn deployed all over the capital. And I don't mean a fleet of Blearses.

If the police suddenly run for cover it's probably time to be worried, very worried.
And better (6½ min) under: Banking Crisis Demonstration in the City of London
Gives more of a feel for numbers - maybe couple of hundred; guessing. Interesting low key / absent coverage so far (but thanks ITV for the snippet). Prob don't wanna get people started on demos just yet (might give Joe Average an idea). But there's every chance there will be plenty more. If you're on one (or just caught up in it), do watch out for the provocateurs (having swapped a uniform for something a little more casual), they're bound to be there. Can't see that it achieves much. The numbers will count for something in due course, maybe. Main sticking point is lack of agreed tactics. Non-violence will work better, but needs total agreement among protesters (thus eeking out the agents). Ho hum.
