Painful????

Last I heard it was Depo that was used to chemically castrate men.

I used to have that injection every 3 months!

Poor ickle lambs eh? Maybe they should use a blunt rusty needle - then it might actually be worthy of the title "painful"

Roll Eyes

I feel so bad for them I do

The headlines all over the newspapers and news channels "Paedophiles to be castrated"

They left out the important part "if they choose to have it done" Roll Eyes

Am I right in thinking that the "castration" only lasts as long as they keep taking the medicine? You can see them taking it while inside, authorites think "this man is no longer a threat" and let him out, he stops taking it...

Worse than that, while he's taking the pills he doesn't have to accept responsibility for his decision to offend because "it wos my gonads wot made me do it, innit" so when he comes off the pills his warped thinking hasn't changed at all.

"Chemical castration" is what we used to do in WW2, when we put bromide in our forces' tea. It kept them out of mischief, apparently.

I wonder if it worked? And if they were grateful? And whether bromide is used in prisons to this day?

Forced cruel & unusual punishments are against the ECHR.

Let's first distinguish between child abusers and people caught with kiddie porn. The latter is bad but not nearly as bad as the former.

Glad Reid didn't propose Sarah's Law. Maybe he's not such a Nazi after all.

His proposal about disclosure upon suspicion is sensible.

Proposals about chemical castration are laughable nonsense. They're going to give them Prozac.

The best way to stop child abusers reoffending (aside from prison) is therapy. They are invariably screwed up, often having been abused themselves.

My brain has slowly come to a conclusion on this subject. Apparently, the "chemical castration" involves the potential offender taking a pill every day, something like a Prozac. Voluntarily, but after receiving psychological support. They take away the appetite for sex.

I can't believe this is going to work. Let me take an example from the world of jam doughnuts. I happen to love jam doughnuts, but never eat them - because they are so fattening. But just occasionally I will - because I am really down in the dumps and need a lift, or to reward myself for some big task I have achieved.

Supposing I was on slimming pills, in order to get my weight down - and I suddenly found myself feeling really miserable, or needed to reward myself for accomplishing something. Would it really make any difference that I was on slimming pills? I don't think it would. I would probably get myself a jam doughnut anyway, and eat it, even though I didn't feel hungry. Or, if I was in a position to think ahead a few hours, I would skip taking my pill on that particular day so that I could enjoy it.

You have to remember that these sex offences are not commonplace, like eating bread or potatoes with every meal. They are more like occasionally giving in to a craving for jam doughnuts. So I don't see the appetite suppressant as having much effect on most offenders.
