I was going by your initial comments on there being nothing positive about the family at all. My opinion on the viewers is informed by coming on this thread, thanks.

OK ........ sooooooooo - the other FM's who watched the programme have posted negative comments re the family. and you ..........who are obviously PC think they're wrong. If you'd watched the programme and made some constructive comments i could accept that. instead of which you have made a judgement on me and others who watched the programme simply because ..............................we chose to watch it. are you above all that or something? I'll just say it again ...........how can you judge me and fellow FM's when you didn't watch it (or chose not to watch it). Says more about you than me .......................you feel that watching a particular programme is beneath you ........and then you'll judge people for watching it.

We can't all have the same tastes - can we?

Terrible isn't it? To be judged by someone who knows so little about you.

However, I know all I need to.

Really? I saw a family on TV ........a mother who has seven kids to five different fathers. Those kids have ha a sucsession of men in their lives (never for mor than eighteen months/two years at a time). If there are the PC amongst us who thinks that that's OK (never mind the kids) fair enough.

I watched the programme honestly and truly looking for some positives (believe me I always champion the underdog). There was nothing............nothing at all - just symbolic of so many tragic families in our society. A 'family' obsessed with how they were being portrayed in the media ............wannabe sad, sad, celebrities. QoS - you may well be PC but sometimes - championing the unde dog isn't right. That little girl was running away from a home that was dysfunctional and wrong ..............she may have been only nine years old but - she knew she didn't want to be there.

I'm off now but ....it is pure arrogance IMO when someone comes on here to comment on a programme they didn't even watch. Of course we'd all like to believe that Shannon came from an idyllic (if not traditional) family ........everything was all lovey dovey and all's alright with the world.

There are some who think the tabloids make it all up! A child went missing ..............she got off the school bus and headed off in the opposite direction from home. She was picked up by some odd ball who was a member of her dysfunctional family. Who knows what went on ....but - those who watched the programme are a tabloids dream (don't read the tabloids myself). If some people choose to believe that however chaotic and sad the family life is - that's OK ..........good on them. I'm a realist - and get a little uppity when people come on here commenting on a programme they didn't watch and talk down to people who have a differing opinion to them.

And where exactly did I do the lynching? I was expressing an opinion.

I think you choose to differ and champion the underdog without watching the programme in question.

Well if that's you're parting shot - how silly and immature Confused

Why not watch the programme and come back with an informed opinion on the subject instead of judging those who watched and making your mind up on something you know nothing about Wave

Nope - you're obviously mistaking me for someone else. why not watch the programme which this thread is all about and then come back with an informed opinion instead of judging people by what they choose to watch on TV Wave

Are you confusing me with someone else? Watch the programme - it's pretty arrogant to comment on the content and viewers without watching - isn't it?

I can't believe it, I've just read four pages of this thread, and all I get is a ridiculous argument between two posters. I can't make any comment about the programme as unfortunately I didn't see it. WinkSmile

Well there you are then. Why bother looking into a thread when you have no knowledge about it and no interest?

different way of life, I guess. To understand others you have to see from their view of the world.

Shannon Matthews close to being taken into care before kidnap

I wonder if the little girl just did not want the life that her mother was proividing? her mother has 7 kids, she is the eldest, did she choose to go with this guy to live in a less chaotic houshold whereby she would get more attention, if so this made her vulnerable to accepting offers of refuge from unsavoury characters.

I did not watch the programme, did her mother mention any of this?????

quote:
Child protection officers in West Yorkshire were “actively considering” taking Shannon Matthews into care days before the nine-year-old schoolgirl was kidnapped, sources close to the police investigation have said.

The insiders said that social services in Leeds had been closely monitoring the family right up to the day Shannon was abducted on her way home from a school swimming lesson in Dewsbury on February 19.

They were considering issuing a care order to take her away from her mother on the grounds that her personal welfare might be at risk.

“They were actively monitoring the family very, very closely and taking Shannon into care was being considered,” a senior official with knowledge of the police inquiry said this weekend.

quote:
Since West Yorkshire police rescued her from a flat belonging to Michael Donovan, Meehan’s uncle, nine days ago, Shannon has been looked after by foster parents after child protection authorities obtained an emergency care order.

They are said to have concerns about her “dysfunctional family” and whether she will be properly looked after if she does go back to the family home.

Unusually in such a case she has not been reunited with her mother, who has been allowed only brief supervised visits to see her and is barred from any physical contact

I very much doubt it!

The mother appeared to want to be the centre of attraction and hence would not mention anything negative about herself.

What kind of upbringing did the mother have I wonder? Is channel 4 going to make a (depressing) documentary at the grand-parents house next?
