on the Andrew Marr show Ed Balls said loss of data 'is a reality of modern life and true of govts around the world'.

so no data with the govt is safe.

does that mean they have given up on id cards?

No - it means the New Labour government ***don't care*** about your private personal data going into the hands of others.

I wonder if they would be more worried if a cd containing all of the MPs private details went missing?

If you have nothing to hide, you have something to fear: Government incompetence and that of their dim-wit, profit-hungry, slap-dash contractors.

Imagine, being a prison officer and the address of you and your family being available. What on earth did this company have the data for????

"Fact of life"??

Is this man an even bigger idiot than I thought him before?.

Any system may be infiltrated given enough skill, but these recent "losses", are not down to some hacker, or some master criminal, they down to only one thing!.

INCOMPETENCE

I think they've just given up on it. Nobody cares. These public hair tearings are just spin and eyewash and I wouldn't mind a little wager that we don't know the half about what has gone missing and what hasn't in the past few years.

Just seen a Drop the Dead Donkey episode from 1990, reminding us that loads of police files started to go missing 18 years ago!

Also poked fun at the (then) government for pretending the recession was not happening, dithering over joining the ERM, turning a blind eye to illegal immigration, and having a PM about to be ousted by the members of their own party.

Plus ca change...
