A lot of nurses forget about consent when approaching a patient to carry out a procedure and also basic observations of body language as well as the mental state of the patient. Then blame the patient for assault.
which is why, Dandini, Trusts now insist on mandatory training on conflict resolution for their staff to prevent this happenin.
But of course I am sure that you are aware of this - being the resident expert
Might be better to teach the nurses Kung Fu. Conflict resolution will not stop a fist that comes from behind a closed curtain as you walk past a bed...
sadly there are courses for NHS staff in self defense - and when I say sad, I mean it in the sense that isn't it a shame that it has come to this?
The problem with many patents and their families is they treat nurses as slaves rather than professionals.
I don't know why nurses bother. I also don't know why any low-paid health worker bothers.
My partner has been told she will not get overtime or time in lieu for any of the extra time she has to work to satisfy the needs of the system. Seeing as that is at least an hour a day every day (and what she does at home) then I do not know why she bothers either... Especially as she has 24hr accountability and the power of life and death in her (easily suable_) hands
presumerably she is a ward manager which is the most thankless task in the health service.
I know cos I recently stopped being one - thank god.
And I agree - the nurses are the front liners and we get blamed from all angles - patients, relatives, doctors, other staff...... it always comes back to us
