I doubt capitalism will disappear. We will almost certainly see a change in the way things operate though. It is almost inevitable when governments have taken large stakes in the lending and investment process but no government really wants to control that like a soviet regime. It simply doesn't work and the capitalist system is too global for it to work.
What I think will happen over the next few years is that governments will more or less specify the purposes of investment and lending by means of directing large scale public works contracts.
The USA will be much more successful than us at this because the US did not follow the New Labour mantra of destroying manufacturing jobs to create public service jobs. There is still a skills base and a blue collar workforce in the USA while ours is decked out in aprons and white coats thanks to the Brown service & finance economic policy.
We could however see some large scale public works on the transport network or even council house building for example even if the labour has to come from abroad, simply to regenerate the economy.
