The government are just the henchmen. It is the lizards in the royal family who are behind it.

I blame NuLabour. But then I always do.

The lizards have got to be front men (or reptiles)... there is far too much information in the public domain about them... The real intiguing question has got to be <who (or what) is behind the lizards!>

Poor try at dissing the subject.

This isn't about conspiracy theory folks - it is about the incompetence of letting this potential earth destroying experiment go ahead.

All of the calculations they are doing are based on quantum theory and under that theory there is a (tiny) possibility that you might suddenly turn into a rabbit. It is not impossible but the chances are so slim that it is not worth worrying about, just like the chances that the LHC will cause the end of the universe.

See what I mean.

Ridicule.

Like when government scientific experts denied vCJD could be carried in blood - calling the risk only "theoretical" - I am on record at the time writing, "Blood is the MOST obvious transport for this disease".

I got ridicule then.

The 'experts' get it wrong.

Actually it was some experts got it wrong, additional research by other experts got it right.

Looks like it could be "MadWorld"...

When the first test of a nuclear weapon was being planned the Project scientists seriously worried that the nuclear explosion might cause a chain reaction and destroying the planet's atmosphere. It didn't stop them.

There are many possible universes, perhaps an infinite number, an infinite number identical to this one at any point in time. An infinite number of LHC reactions go massively wrong thus suck in other dimensions. One of those realities might be this one, one of those possibilities might be next door to this one. Of course it is all possible, until it's observed, perhaps nothing will happen, it will all be left in limbo if we just take no notice and don't attempt to find out.

Whatever it will all be terribly exciting whatever way one looks at it. Angel Skull

A black hole--->Present Or not, as the case may be.

Are you seriously scared, MadWorld? Or are you just opposed to this particular line of research?

If it has the same affect that Thomsons discovery had then the majority of the people on this planet will be affected. If Thomson hadn't discovered the electron then we wouldn't be having this discussion and technology wouldn't have progressed past the victorian steam era. Nearly everything you take for granted today from clean water to lighting, tvs, microwaves, radio, computers, etc all come from the discovery of the electron using a partical accelerator.

Even if it doesn't turn out to have a practical use it would still be worth doing. To know more about who we are and what kind of world this is we're living in is a worthwhile goal in itself.

If an accelerator caused a vacuum metastability disaster, it would destroy a large part of what we call the "observable universe".

It would not destroy much of the entire (infinite) universe, though that would be scant comfort to all the life that was wiped out in the destruction of the Milky Way and about a trillion other galaxies.

The odds of this particular accelerator causing such a disaster are exactly zero, so there is nothing to worry about.

We should of course never build an accelerator where the risk is greater than zero, but that is well beyond our current capabilities.

You make it sound like the reptilians are the bad guys, when in fact, they might not be. Wink

Only going on their behaviour - drinking blood, devouring human flesh, not paying the same taxes as the rest of us... don't know about you but all that gets a thumbs down from me...

"Scared" is not the right world - concerned is nearer.

Same as I was when I knew scientific 'experts' ***lied*** about beef being safe and vCJD patients blood being safe - because it was something they could not possibly know.

I never believed that one and stopped eating meat around mid 1980s.

But I'm not scared or concerned about the accelerator.

We (wife and daughters) stopped eating beef also.

The LHC may well be safe (as BSE infected beef could have been) but nobody really knows that.

BTW: It seemed obvious blood was a carrier for vCJD i.e. it was more likely not to be safe.

Surely you're not saying they deliberately lied, I think most sane people knew without the expert opinion, that certain beef stocks were contaminated.
However comparing the CJD mess up with this 'experiment' is not like for like.

Yes they ***lied*** - any ***objective*** scientific 'expert' could not make such statement of fact or allow his work to be portrayed as such.

It is the same only in that scientific 'experts' are telling lies in the same way and also there is risk of mass deaths in the millions or more.

One difference being - death should be a whole lot quicker than vCJD.

They weren't lying. It was safe.

Are you saying the scientists at CERN know their experiments will threaten the existence of planet earth but are still determined to go ahead? For what reason?

1. BSE infected beef can cause vCJD.

2. I am saying what I have said; that scientific 'experts' lie if they say the experiment is safe - because ***objectively*** they do not know this as fact and they are too often wrong.

If they ***think*** there is no danger as to be of any concern - then they could be wrong - ccouldn't they?

Indeed Fil: Even vegetarians may not be safe from 'mad cow' prions

quote:
Fancy a dose of prions with your vegetables? A new study suggests that infectious prions - thought to be the causative agents in mad cow disease and human vCJD – can survive wastewater decontamination and wind up in fertiliser, potentially contaminating fruit and vegetables.

"May" not be safe..."thought" to be.

Find me some definite proof.
