Of all the nations bordering Iraq, Syria bears one of the heaviest burdens with a million refugees taking shelter in the country.

REFUGEES! Refugees from liberation, freedom and democracy? Refugees from a far better way of life under the improved security of our occupation? Refugees from the BBCs poll of how much things in Iraq are better? Why should any Iraqi's be taking refuge from the removal of all those WMDs, the execution of the brutal Dictator or the new found prosperity and peace of a nation rich in energy? Please note: tone of Cynicism. The British soldiers on loan to the USA occupation army are camped in neutral territory (not part of Iraq) and cannot come out even when the Iraq armies fire rockets at them. Prez Bush who is not actually fighting there either today proclaims that he has nothing to regret and Iraq will still be a victory (Yes George, some group will win) even though his armies are threatening to withdraw/retreat like the British army who have postponed that retreat from their camp in the airport, until the end of this year. Contrary to the complete fantasy of a BBC poll trying to persuade us all that Iraq is a good place to holiday, an arab broadcaster has an opinion poll showing 14% thinking things are better and an incredible 83% feeling things are much worse than five years ago. So I suppose we can claim to have destroyed the country to make things better for 13.97% of the population?

Syria have had no support, aid, praise etc for taking in huge numbers of refugees. Five years on and this situation is still catastophic. I'm surprised even 14% of people in Iraq feel things have improved.

I saw the other night that in 1990 34,000 doctors were register in Iraq, 20,000 have left the country. 2,200 have been killed.
Beyond disgrace what we have done.

Quite right and lest we forget, Syria are living in fear of the crushing boot of the USA who are threatening to make them the next victim because they too happen to be included in Bush's axis of evil.

I wonder if the financial crisis in the US is linked to the huge amounts that have been spent on this war.

But whatever the cause the problems in the US economy it may save many countries as the US will be occupied resolving their domestic problems, the election etc. It may keep the world safe for a year or so.
