Why are non of our Nationalist forum members discussing this. Is it because COSLA have had their hands tied by the SNP? I'm sure that if it were Labour still in power, they'd be demanding that they pay the workers more. LINK

If the cuts were that severe, how come the SNP administration were able to freeze Council Tax? That's just typical of Nationalists, blame Westminster for everything. You'll have to change the record, if and when you do gain independence.

What's to discuss? it's up to Local Authorities to negotiate. The Scottish Government has better things to do regarding the fiscal health of the whole of Scotland.
Did the Westminster Government interfere in England, last month?
They froze council tax by making cuts in spending elsewhere that did not help people as much.
Are you keeping up?
Oh really? And what cuts were they? And while we are on about cuts, hows the Lib Dem/SNP Aberdeen Council getting on with the £50m cuts they need to make to balance their books?
One local authority does not detract from the very good job the SNP are making fo being the government of Scotland, no matter how desperate Labout supporters get.
Jings C.L.A.D, when will you ever get anything right?
Aberdeen City Council was run by a LibDem/Conservative coalition between 2003/2007, and managed overspend to the accumulated tune of £50 million. The Accounts Commission criticised the council’s “precarious” finances after years of over-spending.
LibDem and SNP did not form a coalition until after May 2007.
Aberdeen is certainly not a council to be cited - they've been a disaster area for years.
I wasn't on strike today as I am in the EIS, and have conflicted feelings about the whole thing. Obviously 2.5% is unacceptable in the present climate, but I'm unsure where the money is to come from to give more. I'm more concerned about the deal being over 3 years - if they offered say 3 point something this year but made it a one year deal maybe it'd be acceptable? Though since my pay is frozen I can't bring myself to be that bothered.
I'm not sure why so many on the Herald boards are trying to make this an anti SNP issue. I do again have to think of 'green shirt man' on Question Time and think maybe he's doing overtime on all the boards

This was on top of planned £13m of savings, approved in October, to be made by changing the way the council operated.
All of this has happened since SNP/LibDem coalition in May 2007.
What coalition?
More importantly, why are the school's off - surely a school can run without a janitor for a day, and even if the Dinner ladies were on strike, most parents would be quite willing to supply packed lunches.
The truth is that the parents have been used as political footballs by the authorities who I believe have illegally deprived children of education (and forced me to have three howling brats on the rainiest day I've seen in many a day)
There are 4 particularly vile characters on the Herald and Scotsman forums.
They just seem to play some sort of tag with each other.
I blame both newspapers for being so patently Labour biased for years, even their reporters are reduced to posting articles that would be better placed in the Beano or the Beezer!

The school I work in stayed open, as did all in my division. It was sheer entertainment to see Senior Management attempt to do the job of the admin staff and janitors - I doubt they've worked so hard in years. Hope they have time to think about the fact that they're paid 4 times as much...
I am suprised that some councils closed all schools - I think it is the lack of janitorial staff rather than anything else which is the issue in some places. Maybe because of the keyholding responsibilities?

some of the comments today regarding the strike made me appreciate this place more - there are some really poorly informed people out there. The classic was someone complaining that local authority workers get paid 13 times a year while he only gets paid 12 times a year - clearly has no idea that the annual salary is just divided up differently. Doh.

It's hard to forget "green shirt man" isn't it? I'm utterly convinced that he was a Labour Activist plant [or plank, depending on your point of view ] That was probably the most blatant bias ever shown by the BBC...and it's unforgivable the way they treated Nicola Sturgeon. That Green shirt man had more opportunity to answer questions than she did!!!!

And did you see Rab the Ranter banging on about the SNP making people pay for a Blue Badge?? I have no idea what that is about, but I'm sure if he repeats it often enough, there are gullible people who will believe it.

Did you not read what I posted in this thread?
Hardwon, I thought the SNP government had somehow gone into a coalition when I was sleeping.
I may be wrong, but is the reason all my kids were hanging around at home not due to some national strike, not one affecting only Aberdeen, or has the independent English republic of Lenzie suddenly been moved to Stonehaven?

Try to keep up will you?
And did I say the SNP were responsible? I simply asked how they were getting on with the cuts the have to implement. Bit defensive, aren't you?

Wasn't Aberdeen supposed to be the wind energy capital of Britain? How is that project getting on or is the wind mostly driven by the rising hot air over the council chamber?
