I was flicking thorugh the channels the others day and noticed an old 'smack the pony' epsiode being repeated on E4. I thought it makes a change from the constant O.C. and Chantelle and other related programs for the T4 Generation Jocks that take over it and other channels. So why not show some old.. good channel 4 comedies like, 'Darkplace and 'Los Dos Bros' and many more which have never been repeated or dont have a DVD or VHS released. There must be tons, why not show them, or even better show them on More4. Also BBC should pay attention and release loads of unappreciated comedy shows that didnt have a very long life. Im sure everyone remembers a show that they saw once years ago or in the last couple of years and wanted to see it again, but its never been possible because it seems like it dropped out of existence.
You're right that it would be good to see some old comedy shows revived, and digital TV is the place to do it. To be fair to the Beeb (controversial!) that's more or less the raison d'etre for the UK Gold family.
Very often the problem with repeating old shows or giving them a DVD release is to do with rights - sometimes it just isn't economically viable to do it. Especially for some really old stuff, where the contract might not even make provision for non-standard TV or DVD/Video release rights because they simply didn't exist when the programme was made.
Going back and re-negotiating rights in an entire programme, which might have had multiple writers and cast members and not to mention the producers... potential nightmare.
I completely agree there are so many free channels and they only ever seem to show either the repeats of the weeks shows, friends or BB. There are tons of things that really deserve to be shown again and I'm sure I'm not the only one that would watch them.
I don't know its an impossible choice, i'll just have to hope that when I flip the coin it somehow explodes and kills me.
Theres a lot of old school dvds coming out at the mo, its a nightmare for my bank balance! I reckon theres loads more stuff though that should come out, I'm still waiting for things like The Mary Whitehouse Experience, Newman and Baddiel and Fist of Fun I used to love that! (Showing my age now!)

I can think of a quick list of shows that should be repeated, by which I mean shows that no-one has seen in ages, not shows that always get repeated like "Father Ted" and the works of Peter Kay.
Even better, scrap "Big B*llocking Brother", and instead put these repeats on. Let people see some class television.
