Although both Directed by the same person, my choice would have to be Family Guy

Family Guy wins for me on the basis of it's longer innings, in which time I've grown very wedded to the characters. The DVD movie and music album also give it an edge!
I must say though, American Dad may win my heart if future series continue at this level of quality! Family Guy's pretty near the knuckle for US TV, but American Dad goes full throttle!
When Ifirst heard of American Dad, it seemed Seth Macfarlane was simply trying to start up a surrogateFamily Guy in that show's absence (similar setup of parents, son, daughter and two paranormals) but I was proved spectacularly wrong, I'm happy to say!

Family Guy, but it was a much tougher choice than most.

Family Guy all the way man lol. American Dad's good but could never beat family guy!
"oh s**t. I think I just killed a doctor."

Both very good but I lean towards Family Guy, mainly because it has had more series

obviously have to go in favour of family guy, but american dad is still a hell of a lot better than a lot of the dreck on telly these days
poor old uncle bertie, he's a sick man roger.

I really want to say American Dad because I don't think it gets the praise it deserves cos it followed family guy and has a similar setup. It's excellent and I love really caustic satire, but it has to be Family Guy simply because of Stewie. Any programme that has an evil genius baby with an English accent can't be beat!

Stewie Griffin is a God!! Mind you, American Dad comes a close second - the episode where Stan was trying to explain the facts of life to Steve was hysterical.
A few Stewie quotes for ya:
Lois: Oh, I haven't been on a college campus in years. Everything seems so different. Stewie: Really? Perhaps if you laid on your back with your ankles behind your ears that would ring a few bells.
Stewie: Well, I'd love to stay and chat, but you're a total b**ch.
Stewie: It wasn't even about the eggs, really. Frankly, I like the yolks. I have no problem. There's always been a lot of tension between Lois and me. And it's not so much that I want to kill her, it's just, I want her not to be alive anymore. I sometimes wonder if all women are this difficult. And then I think to myself, 'My God wouldn't it be marvelous if I turned out to be a homosexual?'
Lois (to Stewie): Come on sweetie, eat your broccoli. It's good for you! Here comes the airplane! Stewie (to Lois): Damn you, damn the broccoli, and damn the Wright Brothers!

i love Family Guy! I used to live in rhode island, where the show takes place, so every now and then, i pick up on the little insider jokes about people and incidents from there. It's so right on! Haven't seen American Dad yet- when is it on?
--------------------- Why do I watch this crap?

Springy.
American Dad was on BBC2 late on a Sunday evening, immediately after Family Guy.
Sadly, both shows have now finished their current run.
I'm just hoping the BBC will buy the rights to the next series of both shows.
