basically, a rich man is in a car crash and is mutilated so he putS himself to sleep so he can be woken up in the future when they have the technology to repair his face. you didn't get that???
and now for my review: 'ONE HOUR PHOTO' IS AWFUL, WATCH IT AT YOUR PERIL!
Hollywood has been desperate to replace Arnie and I think they've decided that Vin Diesel is the answer.
The plot is almost the same a Rob Cohen's previous film with Diesel, The Fast And The Furious. Diesel has to infiltrate a gang of Russian terrorists have been coerced into becoming a secret agent by Samuel L Jackson.
Athough it is all very stupid, Vin Diesel is still a very cool actor (if you don't believe me Pitch Black), but he has so many bad lines to deliver in this that you begin to forget..."welcome to the xander zone" being the worst.
Big on action, low on brains. xXx could be forgiven if it wasn't simply so misogynistic...loads of girls in bikinis (in prague for gods sake!) and a poll dancer on every bed in the villains base...nice!
i absolutly luv edward norton, thought i have only seen red dragon, primal fear and fite club. can anyone give me a reveiw on any other movie that he has been in?thanx
You can read reviews of other Edward Norton movies including American History X, The Score, Rounders and others here on FilmFour.com. Just pop his name in the search box at the top left of the site and it'll take you through to his filmography. Have a look at his latest film, Frida, which he also co-wrote...
if you have to see just one ed norton film, make sure it is american history x. its great!!! and ed norton is the best, vote for him to be on the list!!!!!!!

The only good Kevin Bacon movie in existence is Tremours, and that can be ascribed to the law of averages dictating that make enough crap and something good will come up on accident. Oh, and JFK was good but only coz he wasn't in it enough to ruin it. Kevin Bacon...please...

Films with Bradly Pitt
Spy Game : CACK Snatch : NOT BAD Fight Club : GENIUS Meet Joe black : CACK Seven weeks up my arse : CACK Twelve Monkeys : GENIUS Seven : GENIUS
See the pattern, take away the empahsis on Pitt or his looks, and you get a decent performance out of the bugger
Zombies, monkeys, action and humour. This is possibly the best British film I have seen in a long time. I was expecting some dreary story that would be the same as every other zombie story.
However, this impressed me so much. Jim walking around London on his own was a stroke of genius and a tribute to the filmmakers. Wonderful editing made for some excellent 'jumping' moments. And not to mention fine acting all round.
A must see film with a superb plot and a genius director in Danny Boyle.
Danny Boyle's apocalyptic chiller....and very effective it is as well. ALF members break into a animal testing lab to free some chimps but are informed that they have been infected by a virus that has changed them into blood thirsty maniacs - the ALF ignore this and free the chimps who immeadiatly attack and infect them. Cut to 28 days later and Jim(Cillian Murphy) wakes up alone in hospital - not only is he alone there but seems to be alone in all of London - in a series of bravado sequences he wanders dazed through the desereted streets of the city(think Tom Cruise in Times Square) but begins to realise that he isn't entirly alone - infected survivors of the plague are sheltering in doorways and he has to be rescued by a small group led by Selena(Naomi Harris).Soon this group consists of just these two who soon hook up with an affable London cabbie(Brendon Gleeson) and his teenage daughter(Megan Burns). These two seem to coping with the unfolding horror fairly well but they realise they cannot hole up their tower block for ever especially as they are running out of water - in a great little scene they stand on the roof of the tower block covered in plastic buckets to catch the rain to no avial "It hasn't rained in 10 days - this is England for ****'s sake!"
Over the radio they discover that the army has set up a base for survivors north of Manchester and they all head in Gleeson's battered taxi along eeriely deserted Moterways. They arrive at the army barricade to find it too deserted but unfortunatly Gleeson becomes infected but before John can kill him the Army arrive and gun him down. Thinking they are safe the surivors follow to the army base which it turns out is an old house guarded by a handful of soldiers led by Christopher Eccelstone. Unfortunatly Ecclestone has decided that they are the last of the human race and intends to start all over again using the 2 women to breed with. How this all works out I will leave but its one of the most unusual of movies to have played of late. It does play the I Am Legend/Omega Man/Night of the Living Dead card but does so very effectivly - the errie scenes in deserted London are really unsettling and are the best this side of Quatermass and the infected are horrificly realised . A lot of it is shot on digital film which I'm not that big a fan of but it does add to the unreal unsettling atmosphere- admittedly a lot of the ideas(a man-made virus that will desrtoy Man) are abandoned fairly quickly to concentrate on a good old fashioned Zombie movie but these points do surface from time to time as everyone tries to keep thimgs together. Ecceslston is exellent as the Major who still insists on dressing for dinner but somewhere along along the way has gone quietly insane and Murphy and Harris are good as the fiesty leads with very good support from Gleeson.
StevieB, you may not be a big fan of digital filming. But you have to agree that it was used to add a gritty, urban look to the film. And in my opinion it was a massive success.
I'm making a film in the summer and hope to use digital filming for that. So it does have an up side!

'Die Another Day': why?
As for '28 Days Later' I thought the DV camera work worked (surprisingly) well, and '28DL' pisses all over 'Dog Soldiers' and 'Reign of Fire'. Best British film this year... except for '24hr Party People' and 'Once Upon A Time in the Midlands'. (meta question/s: DV: the future of British cinema?/Does it give British cinema a future?)
(on the off chance that this works, I talk about '28DL' here)

For many months I had eagerly awaited the arrival of 007's latest escapade, and I finally went to see Die Another Day last night.
I thoroughly enjoyed the film and was impressed with Brosnan's portrayal of the British super spy. I now certainly feel as though Brosnan has fitted into the role exceptionally well, he can now be arguably one of the better Bond actors.
The film, as always, was full of stunts that were well executed and equally exciting. The hovercraft sequence was excellently carried out and very well filmed. Although the car chase had to have been my favourite moment. The Vanquish in all its glory was truly sensational.
As with all Bond films the film score was superb, excellently capturing the atmosphere of events on screen. Some of the slow motion shots were also well filmed, the almost bullet time shots panning around the room had never been done in any other Bond film before.
The film was dissapointing in places, Jinx (Berry) had very poor lines. I did not like the fact that she came across as the black American women full of attitude. The line "Ya mama" made her character feel wooden and poorly thought out. The idea of a sidekick was not needed. Another devastating moment was a terrible CGI Bond wind surfing through tough waves, it simply didn't look real! The idea of an invisible car was simply terrible, I felt as though it was going too far over the top. The same goes for Graves' suit that controlled Icarus.
I really did enjoy the film and feel bad for heavily criticising it in places, however, Brosnan's excellent acting made up for this. The one liners were also superb. "Saved by the bell" had me in stitches! The on screen chemistry between Bond and Q (Cleese) was also fantastic. There wonderful banter brought a huge smile to my face. Overall this is a very good Bond film that gives a big impression that it is an anniversary film, Jinx rising out the water like Ursula Andress, the Union flag for a parachute (You only live twice), and seeing Blofeld's shoe was wonderful.
All in all, a must see for any Bond fan. For the matter if you like any fun action film this is for you.

what's this thread about? do we have to post film reviews or just schemata as to how we would go about composing film reviews... if we did?
I see Stevie is shamelessly plugging his film reviews here. I'm not averse to a little hypocrisy as it happens -hey, it can be a force for good... if you let it.
so here's how I write them:
http://www.epinions.com/content_73300938372
you see, infected with isms and -eans as I am; I'll never be rich and famous.
I agree that American History X is a brill film, Ed Norton more or less took over the filming of it aswell. Another one to watch is The Score, he is superb in this, his acting is top form

the only upsides to digital filmmaking are that it is relatively cheap and can thus afford edgy/amateur filmmakers unprecedented scope for invention and experimentation.
To try to justify the use of digital on an aesthetic basis is a losing battle. I am always reminded of a quote from Jack Horner in Boogie Nights when this old debate trundles round: "if it looks like s h i t, and it sounds like s h i t, then it's gotta be s h i t!" or something like it...
Unless your film is supposed taken from the POV of camcorders or CCTV I don't think it will look very "gritty" or "urban", just amateurish. I'd have thought a fast filmstock, or 8mm reversal stock (such as was used in Joel Schumacher's recent "edgy", vie for credibility Tigerland, would be more suitable to your needs.
Take care of yourselves... and each other

Does anyone know of any affordable DV editors with "plug in" type filters that can be used to reproduce specific film stock?
EG grainy black and white, glorious technicolour, 60's "robbie williams racing video" colours.
I know the top end editors do but has any of this filtered down to the user market?
I know celluloid is king, I ran through a couple of rolls of super8 in Vegas last year and nothing captures neon better, but it is just too d*mn expensive.
