Why is We were soldiers up for the worst film award???
While Black Hawk down was faster and sleeker and a bit better WWS is an excellent movie in its own right.
As for Vanilla sky? Trying to be clever doesnt make you clever! The riddle is in the answer of the question! Confused So was everyone else who saw that piece of convoluted crap!
Harry Potter 2 Good but in no way darker than the original and that house elf thing in now way compares with Golm in LOTR " towers. Absoloutly ties for best film of 2002 but Golm was created to perfection. There were parts of the film he looked like my Grandad I mean a shrivelled old man! the only reason this wont clear up on oscar night is cos the Hollywood muppets try to make themselves out to be intelligent and vote for foriegn language films which really are crap in any language but cos they dont understand the bad dialougue or its B&W they say they are good in order to look smart. It is pure cinema It looks good has good actors and a good story in fact such a good story possibly billions (Including dead folk) have read the books but just cos its effects driven wont reap the awards. Id like to point out that the same asswipes voed for Titanic (Just shows their lack of taste. Well if you FF the first 2 hours its a damn fine movie.
LOTR 2 Up there with Star wars ep 2 Lucas back to his best (Death to Jar Jar) Story is good and the effects arent cartoon like except for the execution scene! Yoda (One of the oldest men in the Galaxy fighting Christopher Lee One of the oldest actors in the galaxy) Pure screen magic pure escapism and after all isnt that what movies are all about But why wont McGreogor or Lucas win oscars? Cos of one bad character in ep1 and the effect driven story!
Mibnority Report Why can tall directors integrate the effects into the story like this and not the other way round (Last " Bond movies have been adverts for BMW and Nokia)
One night at Maccools I know its a year old but has to have the best comedy cast in years and the last 10 mins are worth the admission alone especially if you were a fan of YMCA.
Resident Evil though infinitly better than Tomb raider wasnt as good as it could have benn but left the door open for a great sequel.
Queen of the Damned Though not the worst film of the year it deserves a mention. As a huge fan of the Vampire Chronicles (Id reccomend them to all Memnoch even rivals the book of revalations in the bible?) I felt as though Id been raped in a painful place after watching this attempt at a Marilyn Manson video! Where did all the characters come from or go to as the case may be. Alliyah was punished for hewr role (Unjustly as she was in no way the worst thing in this tripe. One can only hope the smae fate awaiuts the writers of the script if you could call it that. How OH how can such a good piece of litereature be molested in such a way.
Panic room completely underrated as was Spiderman!
AI As much as it pains me to slate the man himself but the first 20 mins was well on its way to great things but then he tried to make a Kubrick film without the man himsef and failed. At least it was such a big mess up that it cant be surpassed in that sense.
Stallone Lets not bother with titles If hes desperate enough to go back to Rocky after R5 it says it all. No I cant leave it there no I must but AHHH I cant He was soooooo bad in Dtox No cant name names in case people spend money to find out how bad but I must AGGGHHHH. He gets the Golden framed Platinum crested Plutonium filled turkey award for just being alive in 2002.
Arniews was bad in Colatteral Damage but No cant name names.........Driven.............D...............To...x...........AGGHHH frown red face red face red face red face mad mad mad confused confused confused confused again at least Arnie has True lies 2 and T3 in the pipeline.
Jurrassic Park 3 another great special effects movie that doesnt try to pretend to be anything else.
Mr Deeds Shoot Sandler but marry Ryder and more proof if any was needed that theres no such thing as bad press.
eek big grin wink wink
Red Dragon Unfortunatly not as good as it could have been and highly undererated it was still a god film for fans.
Anyway at the moment my Best are LOTR2 and Star wars ep2 tied! smile
Worst are Vanilla Sky ever so confused confused confused confused confused and anything with Sly in it. OH A Beautiful Mind slipped mine. Just an example of how unforgettable th was. Soo Sooo SoooooSooooooooosoooooooooooooosooooooooooosoooooooooosoooooooooooosooooo Baaaaaaaad. Blade 2 was crap 2ooooooooooooooooo. as was Swimfan, Moulan Rouge (Baz (considered cool cos my pics are all total shit but I can make a good stab at a music vid)Luhrman) at his absoloute best Cant wait to walk out of Alexander the great movie.
All opinions expressed in this post do not portray the views / opinipns of the author in any way whatsoever and any refernce to people alive or dead ~( Even if thats how they want to be) is purley coincedental!!! No wait it is my view they are all that bad or good and it dont matter what anybody else thinks cos Im right and the judges decision is final and anyone who disagrees is either on strong medication or just plain W.R.O.N.G..........

A virus has escaped in a secret facility called "The Hive", turning all the researchers into zombies and releasing the mutated lab-animals that they were studying. The Government sends in an elite military task force, led by Alice (Mila Jovovich) and Rain (Michelle Rodriguez), to contain the virus within three hours before it escapes and infects the rest of the world. But all of their training couldn't have prepared them for what they were about to encounter................lousy script-writing and bad acting.

The basic idea for this movie is pretty cool, and visually the movie is engaging, but still remains a poor contender in todays special effects market. Unfortunatly, it looks like they spent most of the money on said visuals and creating a cool look, but nothing on the script. One of the basic rules of movie storytelling is show, don't tell. Most of the scenes involve the characters standing around and explaining to each other (i.e: to us) what is happening.
The story is so painfully slow that it seems to take forever to get started, and never really delivers enough energy to put you on the edge of your seat. It's a real shame because there are some good plot elements to the story, but it's just so poorly written that you are left wondering what this movie might have been, had it been given to a capable writer.

None of the characters are ever developed beyond being a bunch of G.I Joe and Lara Croft dolls - as a result, when they're picked off one by one, it really doesn't have any effect on the viewer, and you'll begin to lose track of who's snuffed it and who hasn't........of course, the lackluster way in which the action sequences are shot doesn't help this fact.
Most of the gore is implied, obviously to gain a friendlier rating, but it fails to deliver the goods even on a subliminal or thought provoking level.
Look at films like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, pretty much all of the gore is implied in that movie, for example, the girl hanging on the hook; we don't see the hook going into her back, but we do see her hanging painfully and struggling from the hook, creating a sense of sadistic horror, without the need to shower the audience in blood and guts.
When you watch a zombie film, you expect to see some real gore, but somehow Resident Evil manages to cut away and back again just as you're about to get into the guts of the action. the effect leaves you with an unfulfilled feeling, and ends up making the film seem very disjointed.

To it's discredit, the film plays mostly straight-faced, and so fails to even tickle the funnybone and come across like an "Evil Dead 2" style zombie farce. The very few attempts at humor come from a couple of truly awful one-liners from Michelle Rodriguez's terminally annoying and idiotic 'bad-ass bitch' character (i.e: "When we get out of here, I'm gonna go get laid!), and are more cringe worthy than funny.

Overall, a totally disappointing movie. If you want to watch a decent zombie film, bypass this poor excuse and get your hands on one, if not all, of George Romero's "Dead" trilogy................oh, and if you wanna just gaze at Mila Jovovich, watch a Loreal ad instead, it's cheaper and the acting is a lot better.

Am I alone in not thinking a great deal of 28 Days Later? I've seen practically every decent zombie film (and some not decent ones too!) and while 28DL has its merits, it simply adds nothing to the sub-genre in my book. The way I saw it, it's little more than a visually ugly, wholely derivitive retread of everything George Romero covered in Night, Dawn and Day Of The Dead. I just don't buy this 'dirty, gritty, urban' look either. It just looked awful. And jittery camerawork is a poor excuse for trying to make the action seem more intense than it actually was. And the shot of a burning Manchester simply didn't work.

No one's pointed this out yet, but it also lifts entire scenes from Romero's Dead films. The renegade soldiers drunk on power, the capture and hopeful 'training' of a zombie, getting atacked while re-fueling, etc. Any of those scenes/concepts sound familiar? For 'paying homage to', read 'ripping off'

The opening was very effective though, but after that, it died a death.

***Spoilers Probably***
Not meaning to sound pedantic, but they weren't ALF were they? I just thought they were your average, generic bunch of militant-we-love-animals-more-than-humans goons... I guess the ALF is the best equivalent.
That scene -from the first frame- in particular was very interesting. The atrocities being force-fed the gorilla on the slab (nice parallel on Alex DeLarge's suffering under the old Ludivico technique there): scenes of human barbarity and rage. The scene of the hanging corpse being beaten and butchered by that Middle-Eastern mob flipped my switches (twinge-barfing switches, that is). I thought this would set the film up as a serious indictment on man's incalculable propensity to inflict harm upon his fellow... but no: by the final reels the film was sadistically revelling in its own blood-soaked excesses ...more of which later.
That scene in a deserted Westminster City was a mind-boggler alright. I reckon they must have shot the ****er at dawn on a midsummer's day. the light certainly had that quality. I have to say though that second time around it did nothing anywhere near as much to affect me as the first time (last August). Having said that, that bloody car alarm still made me jump out of my skin. When you know it's coming and you still jump: that's some pretty good filmmaking I reckon.
I thought Megan Burns had a good physical presence in the role but her delivery was piss poor. I've said it before and I'll say it again now: we simply cannot turn out child actors as good as those in the States. For further proof check the Others -those kids were crap. I thought Cillian Murphy was a really good, likeable lead though. And Ecclestone was excellent: as he always is (be interested to see how he handles the Bard on stage -if Hamlet ever comes down to town).
"It hasn't rained in 10 days - this is England for ****'s sake!" - I think what he said was - "Never thought see this. Not in ****ing England". that was a good gag.
I felt the romance that blossomed between Jim and Selena was contrived, formulaic and unnecessary. I know this will be met with the retort that there is a need for a leavening foil to all the abject horror and misery going on but I feel this is already conveyed in a finely wrought line which threads through the film. It begins with that dawn stroll, continues with the (cheesy) supermarket sweep, the rose field, the picnic, the galloping horses, an aircraft jetstream and finally finds resolution in the crisp, and colour-saturated finale. A deft hand emboldened the movie's horror's by weaving in these touching and often visually beautiful leitmotifs and it is to these filmmaker's credit that they are so brilliantly used.
I didn't like the romance for the reasons above mentioned but I can see it fulfils a serious dramatic function. We need an uplifting payoff (apparently) and if there were no closer bond than friendship between the two adult leads then the child of the piece would end up an orphan after the film ends. Rather a souring taint to the touchy-feely climax they were hoping for probably. Still, that doesn't excuse them for cobbling it together so unconvincingly.
Imagine a rather darker and more thought provoking ending if you will. And that sees Selena cut Jim to pieces after he has dispatched their 'final' military adversary with the old eye-gouging technique. Selena has paused longer than a heartbeat -just enough to realise he is not infected- and why? Because, in short, he's no better than the infected anyway. The "eye" scene is dubious. In it Jim gives way to Rage, he's clearly enjoying the violent excesses he's acting out -so what separates him from the 'infected' that they're all trying to run away from? Not much if you ask me.
Copping out, Hollywood style, as this film did, left me with the stink of potential for a serious analysis of the morass of violence -which the first few shots indicated- in which we wallow, wasted. No commentary, just visceral thrills and spills -with extra spills.
But in and of itself there's nothing wrong with that. The film (wait it's not a film is it? its a collection of tapes edited together on a computer)... the movie! Is a really well made (straining a little at that try-hard, MTV, rolling edge interface - but not too much) and often very beautiful, highly entertaining and never too mawkish or cheesy example of what IS possible in Britain (albeit with Dutch and American funding). Wahey!

Take care of yourselves... and each other

I saw "Frida" (Salma Hayek) last night.

This is a truely great piece of cinema. The subject matter was treated with great compassion and feeling.

The performances of Hayek and Molina are full of passion and vitality.

As a piece of film-making, I recon this film is really imaginative. The lead character, Frida, is a surrealist artist and this fact is used as a tasteful and interesting theme.

Well worth a watch in my opinion.

I've just got round to seeing 28 Days Later - rented it on DVD and I think it's worth adding to my collection.

I watched it alone, in the dark, late at night, and as it was hot, there was an oscillating fan in the background, so there was definitely the right creepy atmosphere. I loved it.

It wasn't until the next day I watched the "Making of the movie" section of the DVD that I realised the even scarier aspect that "It could actually happen". Some scientist chappie said something like "If you were to ask me today if it could really happen I would say no, but if you had asked me 20 years ago if the AIDS epidemic could happen to the extent it had, I would have said no."

Now the latest scare is SARS ... who knows? Still, great movie.

I AM GOING PUT 6 FILM REVIWS UP

GANGS OF NEW YORK

This film was 160 minutes long, so for an american film is was quite long but the longest film has to be titanic 190 minutes long.

Most people would say this was a good film and to a certain extent it was but there were times i felt that this film was going quite slow, which in my opinion would have been better if it went slightly faster because last 30 minutes i almost wasn't pay attention.

Martin is talented director and film was certainly epic but the killings were not very appealing in sense death were awful and sometimes quite distrubing to watch but that really didn't bother, i was more intersted Leonardo De capero chacter, at the end of film we knew we would kill his father murder.

This is certainly a guys film but women that have strong stomach might be able to handle it, i am not trying to be sexist it just this film is quite distrubing for it violence, most of this film are focused on Killing and there is lot blood and fighting about.

Cameron Diaz role was certainly intesting to watch she plays pick-pocket and get's involved leonaro charcter but he find out she belongs Bill, he won't nothing to do with her but in the end there love for one another brings them together.

HOME SWEET ALBRAMA

This film is a romatic comedy and Reese Witherspoon films are quite good including this one, she plays succesful women who is going to marry her boyfriend but before they can get married she has to divorce her ex-husband Jake who lives, can guss where Albama, she goes there comedy start, i was laughting alway through this film.

Most people find romatic comedy quite cheesy but this isn't but it gives insight into how a person can change, she cames from a small town now works in a major city. Divorce is usually not boring but this film makes it funny. As soon she arrives in her home town the comedy starts.

Most of this film focus on how reese chacter can make jake give her divorce but in the end decided not to because she realised that she still love him but boyfriend mother is a politican so she starts a fight and get punched in the face.

I would strongly recomend this film to watch, go to ur local video store rent it out.

SIMONE

This is an Al Pinchio film that wasn't highly published but it is a drama about a producer ( Al pinchio) who main actress walk out and he knows he not going to finish the film but this crazy guy shows a program he created and he uses to create an actress.

The problem is that Program that created Actress is becoming popular so he fakes her death because he realised that she is getting apraise not him. He decided to dump the program hard disk into sea as a result get arrested for murding actress then it is up to his wife and dauther to get him off the hook.

This is certainly an intersting film to watch but few people would find it quite boring because there are times this film goes slow but the acting quality of Al pinchio is so great that u can still enjoy the film when it is going slow. The film shows strain it is to produce a film.

If u havn't got anthing better to do for 95 minutes then u should watch this film since certainly people will like it and certain people will hate it.

The specaial effects are quite good, i really mean it, if u lot are into special effect this film is for u it uses similar techinques to matrix in slow motion but the diffrence is that matrix effect certainly better.

For the summer break if u want a film that will entain the kids then this is it. please don't dismiss this film it certainly good film to watch but it only last 84 minutes.

TRANSPORTER

This is an action film all the way. This film is about a man who transport goods/mercindrice from one place to another and a person who is highly calculated about : weight of good, distance, time taken to arrive at final destination.

His life is pity simple until he transport this asian women to her final destination but on the way feed her because it he is a humane person. When he get paided the customer ask whether he opened a package he say No but he knows he has so he Gives him a steel suitcase that has a bomb, lucky he make a pit stop at diner and he walking towards the car and it blows up.

This pisses him off and he decided to kidnap the asian girl but she more trouble then she worth and she somehow convinces him to help her.

This is a great film to watch high action great for the boys. The one thing i like about this film is that it action doesn't spoil the film, to be honest if u havn't seen a great action film for sometime then u should watch it.

DIE ANOTHER DAY

I used to love James bond film but now i am completly bored. This latest bond film i got to say isn't great. I am actually fed up of watching james bond film maybe i am fed up with Pirece, he has done at least 3 bond ones.

It has the usual formula : Women, Action, Fights, Expolision, Double crossing.

Despite all this, Halle Berry isn't great and there were times where i thought the director made a mistake casting her as the good girl rather then the bad girl a lot more better bond girl then Halle berry. The beach scene where she rises out of the sea is so bad i didn't have a reaction.

The begain was only part of the film i like rest was like watch same thing all over again.

My advice they should really stop making james bond films for a few years because people i think are getting bored.

2/5 because it a bond film otherwise 1/5.

SLAP HER SHE FRENCH

This is teen film not like many based on a good idea which is certainly watchable.
It about this popular girl who want win a pagenant so she gets involved with a student exchange program to make her even more popular.

The problem she doesn't realse that french girl is actually American she pretend to be french and tries to take over her popularity. This is great idea it shows how vindictive teenage girls can be. it certainly funny to watch.

This i have got to say is a great film easy to watch and not difficult to follow and it great film for anyone who has broken up and doesn't watch romatic film, i gurantee this film will cheer u up from any break-ups.

I wouldn't say it a chick film because there pity great looking females for guys to watch so don't dismiss this film as chick one.

It's a 85 minutes film which will make u feel great watch it.
