HOLLYWOOD HOMICIDE

i was planning to watch american pie 3 but the local rental shop has rented both copies out so i opted to take this film out since i seemed like a good film.

If you have 2 hours free and u don't watch a film that doesn't invlove u thinking and just watch, this is the film for you. be warned that certain thing that happend in this film will seriously make u laugh so be careful.

it stars harrson ford and josh harnet has two part-time cops dealing with multple homicide. Harrson ford plays a middle age man who is estage agent in free time while being a cop. Joss harnet is young adult who in his spare time want to become an actor.

Who ever thought that harson ford could play a funny person need to serious examine himself. harrson ford can only play a serious chacter and not a funny. He tries his best but his co-star is what makes him look funny.

please don't get me wrong this film is quite good to watch both harrson ford and joss harnet make a good effort in this film however 20 minutes chase sequence at the end of film was kind of strench. 5 miutes into sequence u just ask urself when will it end.

7 out 10

( Good film to watch, occasionaly funny and some decent background hip-hop music which make the film enjoyable to listen also)

Bringing down the house

i havn't seen a steve martin film for ages, last one being out of towners, so i thought i should watch this one. in my opinion i think steve martin is the king of comedy not bernie mac.

Steve Martin playes a lawyer who make an friend on the internet called chalene( Queen Latifa). he think she is an lawyer but find out she is an escape convict. He tries to get rid of her but end up proving that she is innocent.

This is very light hearted film which the whole family can enjoy including the kids.

8 out 10

( Because it steve martin and he is very funny and both actors make good chemistry)

The Rules of Attraction contains minor spoilers.

Just before I saw this, I wasn't expecting much from it.

After I saw this, I realised that this movie was awesome.

James Van Der Beek was surprisingly good in it, he played a character that was the complete opposite of Dawson from Dawson's Creek. For those of you that don't know his character is the brother of Patrick Bateman from American Psycho.

There are some scenes in the movie which need to be applauded.

1. The introduction - At the start...or should I say the end? We are introduced to Shannon Sossamon's character (Lauren)then at one point the action stops and then goes into reverse. We are then introduced to Paul (played by Ian Somerhalder) the same then happens again and we are finally introduced to Sean Bateman (James Van Der Beek).

2. Split screen - This was awesome. We see Lauren getting up and heading to her class at college. As she is doing this we see Sean Bateman getting up and getting ready for the same class. They then eventually meet, on each half of the frame we see both characters looking into the camera as they are meant to be talking to each other. Then the camera/s spin round and then we notice that both halfs of the frame are slowly combining and the frame then becomes whole.

3. Wrist slitting - When I first saw this one...I was like "damn..."

4. Snow flake tear - In one scene, Sean Bateman has something bad happen to him. Then we see a snowflake slowly fall and land on his cheek, it then becomes a tear.

This whole movie paints a more realistic picture of college life, which movies like American Pie and shows like Dawson's Creek seem unable to do.

Also, Victor's (played by Kip Pardue) trip through Europe is a scene to behold...lol.

Another stand out point is Russell Sam who plays Dick (who is a friend of Paul). This guy was pretty funny in his scenes.

I highly recommend that you check it out, even if you end up hating it.

American pie 3: The wedding

i finally manged to get a copy of this film and like miss lou said it what i expected but for amature film critic i did find it more enjoyable then i expected mainly because i missed the rude moments that appear in american pie, the orginal was good but the problem with number 1( point to losing there vaginity) and number 2 there was no point, the diffrence with number 3 the wedding was the main theme. I think this one is best one out 3 because i love the ending when they danced. i sucker for romatic ending.

i am trying not to ruin this film for those people who havn't seen but stifler has changed i actually think the writer wanted him slighly grown-up, the begaining was excellent but u really need a dirty mind to picture what she was doing under the table.

i still can't believe what stifler eat, u couldn't pay me enought to eat that. The stipper were very amusing, i got to commend the writer on that.

to be honest i didn't miss 5 orginals that were missing it was better without them, who need tara reid in this movie.

now do u lot think they should make American pie 4: The honeymoon, who would watch it, i won't because i am very happy about this film, number 4 would just like number 2.

mainly because it made me laugh so bad i giving it a 4 out 5.

Punch Drunk Love

I've just finished watching this, so I thought I'd put my thoughts down while they are still fresh.

Adam Sandler play Barry Egan, he is a guy who you can tell pretty much loathes his dull 9 till 5 life. He appears to be emotionally fragile, he is quiet and he keeps to himself. He has seven sisters who pretty much dominate his existance.

He buys pudding from this food manufacturer that will provide him with 500 free flyer miles...or whatever they are called. He buys a ton of them...he needs to keep himself occupied. His harmonium playing also helps with this.

One day he phones up a sex phoneline. I don't want to mention what this leads to...but let's just say it goes a little pear shaped.

His life is pratically turned upside down when Lena Leonard (Emily Watson)enters his life. It gets to a point where he potential spoiler alert...
heads to Hawaii to spend time with her. spoiler over.

For the final part of this I am going to quote Harry Knowles.

quote:
PUNCH DRUNK LOVE is a film for the love sick. People wounded by love, that need love terribly to move forward in their lives. It is a film that speaks about the hopes and the desperation that we cling to surrounding that deep down pang in our hearts yearning for someone to come into our lives, return to our lives, be there in our life to fill that emptiness and to make us want to do goofy wonderful lovely things for.

If you know the feeling that the quote above mentions, then I recommend this.

If you don't I'd still give it a try.

Thanks Corvis, Smile Interesting Quote from Harry too. I watched this film and loved it. There's so much more to it that you get from the usual romcom or Adam Sandler movie.

There’s humour in it but it’s very dark and the tension Barry feels slowly gets to you don’t watch it if you are feeling anxious. To say Barry has anger management issues is an understatement he has almost no other way to express himself and can barely hold it in.

I thought Barry and Lee were drawn to each other out of need. He needs someone to share his feelings with. She wants someone who needs her desperately. Their gentleness on the surface masks deep pools of anger beneath.

I think it’s brilliant like a musical. The way music tells so much of the story and Barry’s little dances, of pleasure happiness and even anger and rage. There are the pastel colours that move over the screen like musical notes. Lee is so colourful and brings harmony to Barry’s life. There’s the harmonium is it a play on words? Harmony applies to colours and of course music. The harmonium appears with Lee who also brings colour and music and harmony to Barry’s grey discordant life. Unfortunately though I’ve read lots on the film NO one else has mentioned this. So of course I could be completely wrong about it.

intorable cruelty ( bad spelling)

This film is out today to rent and i rented it, i had a choice between bad boys 2 and this one, i choose this one because it an hour shorter, bad boy 2 is 2 and half hours while this film one and half hours.

i was looking forward to this film because it stars two of hollywood A-class people, george clonney and catherine zeta-jones.

George plays a ruthless lawyer who is very successful at divorce cases and has never lost a case mainly because he find dirt on other party and wins.

Catherine on the other hand play a powerful women who is after rich-men so she can get a share of the money however as u can imagine when her husband hires George she loses.

That good part of the film, after this the film slowly become a lot worse, it clear to me that director lost the point of the film because i can't belive a director would let a film like this which has a very promising start and let it get to a point where all that hard work has gone down the drain, maybe i am being a bit harsh.

The bad part, george tries to get involved with her but she does something to surpise him which is get's an actor to play her new husband and ask him prenupt, u see his prenupt is iron-clad where both parties leave with what there came in with. However the one way out of it which is if there tore it up after there get married. This thing happend twice when he marries her, u can see how ridclous this sound then they decided to forget about it and remain married, that how the film ends.

For a film that had a promising start then goes downhill is waste of a film. neverless there are many comical moments which may make up for film depending on the person.

3/5 ( good start but certainly not typical romantic comedy

BAD BOYS II

There was a massive gaps between these film, the first one was out in 1993 and we had to wait 10 years for it's sequal i think that the main reason why the film was made quite long and also fact that there had to extend the 30 minutes of film for rescue one cop's sister.

The on-screen chemistry between martin and smith is very good, not only have there got fed up with each other but there are secrets, martin wanted a transfer while smith dating lawerance sister.

Both actor are extermely funny and there were so many moments it had me is stiches.

The extended car chases sequence was impressive but the chase was too much, it certainly went over the top with car thrown at them on the free-way. i am sure young teenager and small kids think it was spactacular but for an adult, u seen one car chase sequence u seen them all.

The bad guys wasn't as bad as the film made it out to be but it was certainly amusing when Will smith blew up the manison. The amonut of expolsion in this film made it impressive too look at but it was like all the same for me.

The film tried to based it on the action-sequence which was reasonable but i wish it concentrated more of the comedy aspect of the duo.

so i am rating this film a 3/5 ( Impressive action-sequence but it too long)

i am not sure if there are going to make bad boys III but i won't be in an hurry like i did for this film.

BAD NEWS: This will be last film review i am going to do for a few months. so my next review will be somewhere in may/une 2004.

i couldn't help myself i know i said that bad boys was the last film i would review for a while but i decided to change my mind.

The italian job

I havn't seen the orginal so i am not going to compare it. This was a very intresting film to watch not because of the famous minis that appeared but because the storyline was quite goods. i was impressed how there managed to get safe from 2nd floor to bottom by setting expolisive. it was refreshing to see that instead of armed people with guns. It was brillantly planned to right down to the last detail.

That was just one of the things i like about this film and second has to be the cast. Mark Walberg played his chacter quite well so did Chalize Throne has a safe-cracker. When we saw the scence with cracking into safe we the audience had assumed that she was following her father footsept instead she uses her talents to help the police. Edward Norton plays the double-crosser and he plays it quite well as the bad guy. it seems that role always kind of suits him. Rest of the cast are brillant espically Seth Green as napster. i like how he use his computer to do 3-D model of the situation. i looked at that thought it was good. That because there have lots of movie in the past like oceans Eleven where chacter just talk cracking the safe but there was no model so that means we the audience have to listen to the film carefully however this one 3-D model shows how plan worked. i also like it when he measured 3 vans tyres to know which one had the gold bars.

The fast-driving and the mini were ok to watch but i wasn't impressed by it. mainly because the trailer showed most of the chase so does the advert which kind ruin it.

So i would give this film 7 out 10 rating. good to watch.

Haggard contains some spoilers

This is the debut feature from Bam Margera, who most of you will probably know from Jackass and the CKY video series.

It revolves around Ryan Dunn (who plays himself). Ryan has just broken up with Glauren (played by Bam's girlfriend Jen). The interesting thing is, in real life Ryan found out that his ex was cheating on him (her name was Lauren...see what they've done there...lol)

Bam plays Ryan's friend Valo (named after the lead singer of HIM). Brandon DiCamillo plays Falcone, a taxi driver and a competition judge and lead vocalist of metal band Gnarkill (which also contains members of the band CKY) Rab Himself plays...erm...himself...Rake Yohn plays Hellboy and "skateboarding legend" Tony Hawk plays a police officer.

We also see cameos from CKY video regulars Ryan Gee, Hoofbite, April and Phil Margera, Don Vito, Naked Dave and Mark Hanna.

I bought this movie on import last July because I am a big fan of Bam and CKY (I think it may be available in stores over here now). So when I finally got around to checking it out, I was really surprised by the quality of it.

The script was really good for someone who hasn't made a film with characters before. The way the film was shot...was awesome, especially some of the time-lapse shots amd the filters and colours that they use.

I don't want to mention to much here as I don't want to ruin it but I will mention a couple of good moments in it:

Valcone and Valo head to Glauren's house to get revenge for Ryan. Valcone takes a shit in the gastank of a car that is parked in the driveway and Valo smears shit on a garage door.

The introduction of Rab Himself, this guy kicks major ass in thus.

Any scene with Don Vito...especially the fit he takes when Valo attempts to take a grape from a bowl.

For all us guys, there are some tit shots and a short lesbian scene near the end.

Bam has helped me define my filming and editing techniques and this has definitely helped the cause.

I recommend this without a doubt, you should give it a try if you can get your hands on it. You will be pleasently surprised with the quality of it.

fuCKYou

Listen to CKY and HIM.

One I think is worth a mention is...

THE RING

Seven Days…

Urban Legend speaks of a video, a strangely compelling collection of images and video clips that, once you have watched it, render you dead in seven days time. It may not seem like a classic piece of horror cinema – especially in a generation of Screams and Final Destinations – but the fact of the matter is that the Japanese original of Hollywood’s latest terror flick, The Ring, has achieved cult status amongst film fans and critics alike.

You go to the cinema to watch The Ring in the midst of praise, great reviews and a thrilling trailer. And, to all extents and purposes, the film starts rather excitingly. It displays all the signs of a promising film, creating tension in the direction, acting and predictable storyline of the opening scenes. Everyone is awaiting one thing – the first “jump” moment; the first gasp as the film scares someone in the theatre. And when you get it, you are not disappointed. A flash on moment, revealing a dead teenager in her room, killed by the video – perhaps a simple irony of a technology-filled generation or an amusing coincidence.

The film stars Naomi Watts as Rachel Keller, aunt to the girl found dead in her house after watching the mysterious video with her boyfriend a week earlier. When she finds out that the boyfriend was tragically killed on the same day, Keller begins to investigate the odd occurrences with fellow video-watcher, Noah (Martin Henderson).

With only a cryptic collection of pictures with their faces scribbled over in pen and the details of the “Seven Day Death Video” from some of her niece’s friends, she makes her way to the campsite where the group had watched the video and foolishly breaks all the Horror Film Rules by watching it herself. And then, the phone call. “Seven Days…”

From here on in, it all starts to get a little too predictable and you spend more time guessing what will happen and congratulating yourself for “getting” the many reference points and plot twists than you do enjoying the film. That is, of course, until you lose the thread completely and begin to get that Blair Witch feeling again. All of a sudden, you are asking yourself too many questions: Where does he fit in? Where was the video made? Who made it? Why?

The film doesn’t fail to impress throughout, however. It does not fall short on flourishes of comedy; it will make you jump; but above all, it is a scary film. After all, it is a horror film, and here it does succeed in scaring you. When Watts’ son is found watching the fateful video, his pale face and dead expression is reminiscent of the chilling twin girls in Kubrik’s The Shining; the crazy horse on the boat expresses hints of the zoo animals in The Omen; and the girl coming out of the television is as chillingly frightening as the creatures in the early hammer horror films, the zombies of Night of the Living Dead and the slow-but-fast killers of “slasher” films, Halloween and Friday the 13th.

Overall, however, you leave the cinema with more questions about the film than when you went in. The “twist” at the end lacks the sophistication and the desired effect of Kevin Spacey in The Usual Suspects, and one feels that when the well closes up and you can see “The Ring”, you think you “get” the plot for a few moments before reverting to the fact that there really is no plot to get. To be fair, the script is written quite well and many of the “elements” of Watts’ investigation link up very well throughout the story. As for her performance, Watts is rather charming as the main character which cannot be said for her male co-star, Martin Henderson. In fact, apart from Watts herself, the acting performances are “hammy” at best. David Dorfman, who plays the slightly estranged son Aiden, gives a performance that most would associate with the vision-seeing Haley Joel Osmond in The Sixth Sense. However, it seems the “visions of a child” is a trademark move for any horror script nowadays.

But, as mentioned, where it lacks Oscar-worthy actors, it does not fail to terrify. The directing is brilliant, with references and ideas from the conventions of all the classics – from Hitchcock to Kubrik. Do see this film, if not simply for the hype that surrounds it. Unfortunately, one can only guess that its Japanese original is a lot, lot better than this Hollywood remake.

Best film of 2003? No, but there are definitely worst films to sit through for two hours. And, as the Japanese version spawned a whole host of sequels, it is not a wild accusation to say that Hollywood will profit from this cinema idea for a few years yet.

Oh, and not to foget the brilliant...

FINAL DESTINATION 2

Final Destination 2 will be gory. This is a certainty, a fact. When you watch this film, the death scenes will be gruesome. However, it seems that the trailers and TV Adverts have picked the wrong element of this film to advertise. While it will not scare you to the extent that the original does, while it will not be as chilling and psychologically frightening as some of the latest horror offerings (The Ring, Red Dragon), what it will do is keep you interested and on the edge of your seat throughout.

The story, you assume, is the same. American Teen’s. Cheat Death. Wackiness Ensues. Well, this is the first shock of the film. The script, the actual story of this film, distances itself from recycling the exact details of the original. In fact, despite the one remaining character from Final Destination and a convenient – but nonetheless clever – link to the unique death scenes of this film’s predecessor, Final Destination 2 is cleverly written, well acted and directed.

In a nutshell, it stars AJ Cook as Kimmy - yet another attractive teenage girl living in suburban America - whose life turns unexpectedly terrifying when she has a vision of a massively fatal car accident that was to kill her and her friends, along with countless other people who, unluckily as it may seem, also “cheated death” by stopping their cars.

The characters with death on their heels are certainly varied, from a pregnant woman, to a mother and her son, to a comical stoner – and this is a pleasant surprise. With Final Destination 2, we are not left with a totally unconceivable explanation as to how a once-dead character has returned to life. The “seer” of the original movie, Alex Browning, is mentioned almost in passing in a way that shows a loyalty to the macabre events that once took place.

The weak link in this film unfortunately comes with the often cringe-worthy attitude of Clear Rivers, Final Destination’s only survivor, now residing by choice in a mental institution. Whilst her re-introduction into the plotline is good, she seems overly “cocky”, taking on the role of a Hannibal Lector-inspired expert on death. Unfortunately, she isn’t up to the role. Her lines are often delivered in an ice-cold fashion that does not become the character, especially after the intrigue and mystery that surrounded her in the original story.

However, the film does deliver well as a sequel. The deaths are tragically hilarious, gory and brilliantly effective; the script is witty and suits most of its characters; and the opening scene concerning the premonition of a freeway pile-up is mind-blowing. Overall, it is an enjoyable two hours that will keep you guessing, screaming and laughing…

Once Upon a Time In Mexico

This has got to be one of the worsed action film i have ever seen. For one is nothing like mask of zoro which had a good story. Half of this film doesn't make sense and on top of that we feel bad when we see people die because u just don't care u dies. That how bad this film is.

Basically Jonny deep looks antino chacter and ask him to killthe president of mexico, obviously he asked why should but when he see the General he says yes. The general killed his wife and kids and he want revenge. Mean jonny chacter is very busy first he has to convinced a re-tired FBI agent to kill another person. This person tortured FBI agents partner and start getting angry and decide to take matters in his own hands. Then jonny girlfriend who double-cross him and takes out his eyes.

As you can see this too messed up. it not funny and really too much shooting but the end of this film i had a massive headache.

i was very disappointed with this film and i never a given a low rating but this has to be the first 3 out 10.

It worth the wait...if u want a better action film rent either bad boy2 or The italian job.

Dark Water Review - 80%

I liked Ringu. Yes, I did watch it before all the hype that surrounded it, and yes I was also severely disappointed or should I say horrified by the way in which it was butchered by Hollywood (at least it scared me in one respect). So as you would expect I was greatly looking forward to Hideo Nakata latest offering to help me recover from mourning over Ringu, however what I am left with is a mixed bag.

Dark Water revolves around Yoshimai Matsubara (Hitomi Kuroki), who after a divorcing her husband faces a difficult custody battle for their daughter Ikuko (Rio Kanno) and a battle to put their lives back together again. They move into a dilapidated apartment block, with the belief that all they need is each other. However the strain upon Yoshimai becomes relentless with her having to find work, raise Ikuko, have her actions constantly scrutinised by her ex-husband in order to try to gain the child he has never once cared for, her roof leaking and to top it all off being plagued by the ghost of a six year old girl wearing a yellow raincoat who disappeared two years ago.

Nakata shows his gift for creating a fantastically atmospheric film within Dark Water, which alone leaves me wanting to watch it once more just to appreciate it. His ability to make the apartment block itself come alive is an amazing feat which was absorbing as it was unnerving. He has manipulated everything possible to use to his advantage, from the colour scheme of contrasting cool colours of the apartment which seem to consume the warm colours of Yoshimai and Ikuko, the intricate use of background noise of rain and footsteps is as important as the careful use a of music to heighten the atmosphere, each frame is carefully constructed and the gradual increase of water as Yoshimai is eventually drowning upon the strain of her troubles. The acting is also well executed seeing the deterioration of Yoshimai and Rio Kanno coming into her own in the run up to the climax of the film in playing Ikuko.

However the problem for me occurs with its weak predictable storyline containing little progression when it comes to the horror side of Dark Water, which I feel is ultimately its weak point. I know it sounds strange considering it is meant to be a horror film, but the realism of it seems to detract the mystical aspect of the film. Upon watching I felt that there seems to be constant struggle between a horror film and a film about the struggle of being a single mother which is rarely able to come together; this is not helped by the unsatisfying ending, which seemed inconsistent with the rest of the film.

Overall, I would recommend that Dark Water is worth watching just for the excellent execution by Nakata in creating an absorbing and tense atmosphere, for the few scares it offers and the surprisingly arresting troubles of a single mother.
