You did realise H.L that the film was a romantic comedy with zombies? The gore was pretty tame compared with most horror movies. Please give an example of the violence that you objected to. I can honestly say that nothing in SOTD was in any way overtly violent for my palate. Surely the thought of taking on the zombie hordes with nothing more than a cricket bat is a wee bit funny.
I use "complex" in reference to About Schmidt because its a slow film dealing with black humour that requires a bit of work from the viewer. If the viewer is unable or unwilling to go that extra yard to sympathise with such a dour character then the comedy is lost.

I found tearing out a man's intestines with bare hands while he's still alive and screaming a bit distasteful...tongue in cheek or otherwise.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think it was a bad film - just not to my taste, like I said. I'm not a huge fan of horror. I think I've got more squeamish as I've got older. I still like scary films, psychological thrillers, that sort of thing. I just don't much like blood and guts. And having to shoot your own mother aint funny either.

Thats why they call them scary movies.

I really enjoyed shaun of the dead. However, I thought the "having to shoot your own mother" bit pretty daft. I know its a film and not real so that means it doesn't matter, but if for some bizarre reason, someone was to get in that situation, I would hope someone else would do it for them! I have to agree that everyones sense of humour is different. I don't understand how anyone can think they have no sense of humour or a huge one...Just different!

i dont know actually!!i mean, if your m8 shot her, they prob wouldnt be your mate anymore, wud you want to put that responsiblilty onto someone else?? not that id want to shoot my mum...oh well. see, SOTD raises important moral questions as well!!!

She WAS a zombie though when he shot her so technically she wasn`t his mum.

Zombie movies always scare me sh@*less and so Shaun of the Dead was good therapy for me. The direction was amazing for a comedy movie too. It's definitely a classic up there with python/gilliam movies and it puts stupid american spoof franchises like Scary Movie to shame.

such a dull and boring film. wish i never payed the £3.50 for it on front row, it had good reviews but failed to deliver. maybe it was just not my sense of humour, but i laughed once and thats it.. waste of money.

I loved this film. The bit where they were chucking the vinyl at the zombie girl was hilarious. Also when Shauns mum said (talking about shauns stepdad) "He's a bit bitey"-crease up!!

I think the film appeals to those kinds of people who liked spaced, there is a lot of back referances in the film, that if you were not familier with the TV series you may not have Understood. I actually like the film, thats why i have it on DVD
