After waiting MONTHS (trailers came out last year and the sadistic film-makers made us WAIT! grrrrr - evil!) finally saw it at the weekend and WOW! what a brilliant film well worth the months of torment! The cast, the cinematography, the sets, script, ambience (typical Tim Burton - but oh so refreshing to see an ADULT Burton film! so dark yet so often sweetened up for the younger viewers) Lots of blood and gore and squelchy noises but there is only one "BUT" :- oh dear the music!!! I am NOT talking about Depps singing voice, which was fine, as was Mrs Burtons aka Helena Bonham Carter, but the quality of the music writing. I was MEGA disapppointed that such a FAB film was tragically let down by such awful music & songs! It just lacked 'umph' & was so wishy washy it couldve been written by any school production! If the music had been as well written as say a Lloyd Webber film like Phantom of the opera (eg) where you could grab lots of the songs and pop them into the charts, good enough to be singles in their own right! I think if this film had better music it would be up there with all the GREAT classical musicals. A good song wouldve just lifted it to the great heights I expected of this long awaited monster of a movie! Such a shame as everything else was a sharp as Depps cut throat, but the music was as blunt and bland as a soggy bic razor!
What a terrible, boring, dull, flat film. Never has so much talent and resource achieved so little. The marketing boys have clearly been working overtime to have generated the positive hype surrounding this. Comparisons with Sleepy Hollow and Edward Scissorhands (Film 4 !) are absurd.
We squirmed throughout as did just about everyone else around us - those that walked out were the lucky ones. Sitting through the wet, limp, solos and sub-plot from the dreadful "Anthony" and "Johanna" has just been voted our worse ever cinema experience.
Do not see this film. If you do, slitting your throat may seem an attractive option !

I have always been a big fan of Depp, but this one left me feeling that perhaps doing the Pirates trilogy has left him a little type cast?
Anyone who sees it will immediately recognise Depp's English accent as way too similar to that he used as Jack Sparrow and it's difficult to watch the movie without seeing the pirate instead of the butcher.
The film, i felt was actually quite enjoyable, but then im a sucker for musicals
