A delightfully quirky fantasy tale that will appeal to the young and young at heart.
After seeing Amy Adams performance in Junebug a couple of years ago I knew immediately that this actress was destined for stardom, Enchanted certainly helps her on her journey. She plays the title character with such charm and gusto that the viewer immediately accepts that she is a fairy tale character.
Her every move and gesture mimics that of Snow White or Cinderella. Backed up by an able cast, the Prince is played with a lovely touch of goofy narcissism by James Marsden, Timothy Spall as the Prince's servant does his usual best, Patrick Dempsey as the lovelorn attorney is fine and Susan Sarandon as the evil Queen provides a wonderfully over the top performance.
With Disney regulars, Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz, providing the music and lyrics and with some excellent nods to the likes of Beauty and the Beast and Sound of Music (Julie Andrews narrates the film) this is a hugely entertaining treat for all the family that the adults will get as much enjoyment out of as the kids.
And how refreshing it is to see Disney poking fun at themselves.
