watched this last night and i thought it was a very good film. Unlike other predictable horrors, it keeps you guessing truly up until the last moment and really has you fooled at times. Quite gory in parts but really well thought out. Was totally petrified by the puppet thing the killer uses to talk to people though - now that was just damn scary!
Also could someone really just lie there for hours and not breath, move slightly, maybe even sneeze or break wind!!!
My thought on that point was that he'd used the same drug on himself that he had used on the guy he tortured earlier in the film. So he couldn''t move, but could hear everything going on around him.
I found SAW totally unintelligent horror. I'm kind of disheartened that horror today won't allow itself to challange the perceptions of it's audience. I am scared of absolutly everything, and I am not against a good old fashioned scare. But, in the times that we are in, we should be demanding more of our horror/ whodunnit producers. The things that really scare people are the things that they encounter on a daily basis...Family threatening you (The Shining), that cute looking guy asking to carry your books (Ted Bundy), or the things that you can only imagine (The Exorcist). The twist at the end was clever, but so what? when the plot, the characters, the editing and production of the movie isn't anything to talk about why the hell make a movie? The Grudge (and I'm talking about the really bad Sarah Michelle Geller one not the lovely origional) was a poor plot but the scenes with the woman who came from work and that kid got her in the bed was damn scary... I know a horror movie is not too good at having it all, but look at The Shining and Misery, people were genuinely afrade because our real fears were exploited, the characters were real. Come on, when are we going to challange film makers to let us get real characters and plot development, rather than the mass produced crap we get today? L x
This is quite the surprise thriller of this year. Was not expecting such a refined film. Well made with an unerving atmosphere and the twist at the end shocked the hell out of me and i am not earily surprised when it comes to thrillers. Brilliant, fantastic and other than a few narrative issues shear masterpiece.
although i found the two leading men slightly annoying, i loved it. its not often a film comes along that entertains, scares and keeps you guessing like that.
i have to admit, before i watched it i was a bit skeptical due to all the comparisons with seven, but i thought it lived up to this praise and i thouroughly enjoyed it.
and i have to admit, i checke my wardrobe for a scary masked man before going to bed....
