Caught this last night on Film4. Not sure what to make of it really, other than it wasn't particularly good and that I will not be watching it again. Part logan's run, part Matrix, part footloose - a hotchpotch that didn't work for me. Christian Bale is wasted in the lead role - he looked confused himself at times as to what was going on and why. I stuck with it though, but began to laugh during the gun slapping scene with the 'father' at the end. I didn't care what happened to anyone in this film, or the ridiculously permanently stoned society.
Hard core sci-fi fans may have something else to say on it, but I wouldn't even be bothered wasting a few hours on a Sunday night with it.

I thought it was a great film, I think the point of it was you weren't supposed to care about them - they were emotionless, and the ones who weren't were drained by it all.
Bale was fantastic as always, I think with a bit more money injected into this film it could've been a mega hit
I really don't think any more money could have saved this film. Besides, look like they wasted a hell of a lot of money on it as it is.
The fight scenes were particularly boring. Given the lack of a plausible plot, the fight scenes should have been the action points of the film that kept the interest up. It was just that stupid over done Matrix fighting again.
I know they were emotionless, but Bale's transition from emotionless enforcer to sense criminal didn't ring through. Bale is a good actor, but he had next to nothing to work with here.
I'm sorry to disagree with you on this one, but I don't believe there is anyway this film could have been a 'mega hit'.
Seen it twice, it's a rather odd movie but still watchable
But if Christian wasn't in it, it wouldn't have been very good

I think it was a very good film myself, the budget for the film was very low and alot of the sets you see in the film are real buildings in Germany and some in Russia i think which gives it a really cold feeling.
I really liked this film.. I guess I am drawn into it because I sort of like the idea of a cold unemotional world so completely different to ours. I dont like the way our world is because people are so unpredictable.
To put it briefly, this is a poor man's Matrix. It's a bad fusion of jaded ideas and themes. Even Bale looks completly perplexed throughout. The action scenes are the usual Matrix hand slapping and mid air twisting. I found the whole thing very unsatisfactory, so much so, that I stood up for the first time in ten years and went upstairs to bed.
