It was ok but as the old cliche goes it just wasn't as good as the book. More Daniel Craig please! Nicole Kidman was good and her little monkey demon was great.

Pass me the remote love.....

A creative and certainly an ambitious effort from director Chris Weitz but the lack of a strong script ultimately leaves it one-dimensional and disjointed.

While the visuals are immensely impressive, the sheer lack of a cohesive plot makes the viewer lose any interest in the characters and the magic and wonder of the effects become stagnant, with the overall feel of the film's pace being very rushed.

I have no idea what has gone wrong with Nicole Kidman recently, she seems to sleep walk through her roles of late and this is no exception. Daniel Craig has barely a few lines before he disappears for the rest of the film. However, Dakota Blue Richards in her first role does a fine job and the voice cast are very good. Freddie Highmore as Pan, Lyra's daemon and Ian McKellan as the bear king Iorek bring life to the CG characters.

Having never read the novel I do not see where these religious groups are coming from because I could not see any anti-Christian theme at all. In fact Chris Weitz was careful to remove any references from the script. Perhaps he should have kept them in, it probably would have made for a better film.

Loved the books and i have to say they did a great job transferring it to film.

It's no Lord of the Rings, but it is a very watchable and enjoyable fantasy romp.

To make it viewable to a PG audience and to fit it into the time frame a lot had to be removed and they handled the anti-christian theme very delicately, removing the stronger stuff and leaving in something that is palletable and which adds to the overall effect.

CG is brilliantly done, Dakota Blue Richards is incredible and Azrael comes into it a lot more as the trilogy progresses. Can't argue with Kidman though, that was the main down-fall for me, terribly wooden acting, no passion, no real believability in a role that most actresses can only dream of getting.

I know the film bombed in the US but i really hope they make the second book.

7-8/10 for me Smile

I much preferred the books, I think they missed quite a lot from the books. The film was a let down for me.
The Chronicles of Narnia films have transferred better into films.
