The Richard and Judy programme is an excellent show with a great format and will be very difficult to replace. I only hope we will have a live show and not some recorded American stuff. The Paul O'Grady show is also very good and the two different shows fitted very nicely into the 5-6 slot. My only criticism of Paul's show is to many repeat guests. Another show which i enjoy is Dickensons Real Deal with a new twist on showing antiques. Again its about personality, I enjoy David Dickenson but not so much Paul Martin on Flog It, I feel he tries too hard which comes across as false.

People are coming back from work, children are back from school: what about giving them a live, audience-free magazine show that responds to what has happened that day in the news and anticipates what is coming up in the evening on TV and the rest of the media, has a regional element and some live input from viewers, is flexible enough to react to breaking news and puts the spotlight on the themes and topics instead of the presenters. Forget the 'stars' and care more about the format. Maybe really seize on the idea of a broad demographic and make use not just of a young presenter but also a middle-aged one and bring back a 'veteran' - someone like Moira Stewart, Sue Lawley or Michael Aspel - to cover topics for the older viewer.
Alternatively, move the TV Show there and use the slot as the conscience of the channel. Make it live, get viewers to call in, include recorded features and actually make it a conversation. Have people phoning in saying things like, 'I've just seen Goldenballs - it's a disgrace!' and DISCUSS it. Make it feel like the most lively, urgent and immediate show on TV.
Sounds good to me ... abit like the Wright Show ... but later in the day rather than discussing early in the day ... i like it

Hello DiggettyDawg. Nice to read your posts. Have been on here looking out for you.
I agree with both of your posts and, maybe some "suit" at channel4 will take your ideas on board.
The POG show, which has not been on as long as R&J, has become very very boring and with the "same old guests". I am convinced his time is limited on Channel4 and as he has upset several other channels who gave him his opportunity will he be in demand for much longer?

I agree with what you say about POG

Thank you Rosebud 186 for your post.
Usually on this forum when I mention POG people post aggressively. I know that lots of regulars have stopped posting because of all the immature "zapping" but, I ask myself, are they also finding that the programme is becoming boring? Repeat guests AGAIN today and they are also becoming as boring.
Come on Channel 4 you need to have a master rethink on what you are producing.

You are right. The 5pm slot after DOND has become very stale of late, both with R&J and POG. Both shows are now tired, old and completely predictable. Channel 4 needs to come up with something refreshing and new for this slot - perhaps a competition on this forum for members to suggest something would help them along??

I'm so galled that Paul O'Grady is back - I find him and his show totally banal. I'll miss the Punch and Judy show - at least there was some intelligence about it. Hoorah that Come Dine With Me has been spotted for peak time at last, but sometimes this happens to 'little treasures' and then they come up against big shows on other channels and fail. I do hope that doesn't happen to CDWM.

Well after some thought, I know what I dont want to see which also seems to be the theme running through this Topic.
Please CH4, No Reality shows, NO celebrities, doing Ice Skating, Cooking, Ballroom Dancing, Singing, or anything else for that matter. No cookery that includes Come Dine with Me, Yawn, No House Buyers, Childcare, Fashion, or Look Another Dirty House that Needs cleaning! TYPE SHOWS.
A Topical and Up Todate with the Headlines Show would be good if it ran the Format just like Matthew Wrights SHow ON CHANNEL fIVE. In fact that would be good Full Stop. I always think that has been put in the wrong slot. Its a show that gives the public the chance to join in too and covers not only the news but important topics too..Perhaps also another show like the present "One" show on BBC which covers Several Subjects. I suppose the alternative to that would be a Light Hearted Family Comedy show that anyone can watch and that is English and Not AMerican. The Writers are out there so why dont they give them a challenge to come up with something original.
As to Paul O Grady, dare I say I am a Fan. Good Luck to him, he must be doing something right to be in the sixth series, whether the format has been the same or not. The demand is keeping him there. As with everything We cant all like the same things and its good to have choice.

Well said seaslug. Paul's show has pulled in more viewers than the first show of the last series of Richard and Judy, so he is obviously well liked, and doing something right. After all we can't all like the same things, like you pointed out, seaslug.

Yea i couldnt agree more seaslug The telly is full of cookin, house/property programmes! After all we are only talkin bout an hour of telly here n the chances of every1 on the forums agreeing bout 1 programme they want to be on is pretty much impossible! I also agree that there is a reason Paul is currently doin his 6th series n he wouldnt do it if he people werent watching him anymore! I love Paul n think he is the business!

I have to wade into this discussion, I think Paul is the best thing on CH4, better than R+J , and youre right, Paul would not be doing a sixth series if he was not pulling in the viewing figures. Keep it up Paul

I agree if people don't like the show then watch something else.

I wouldn't use The Wright Stuff as a template - showing an on-screen switchboard operator, and featuring a gurning presenter LISTENING to telephone calls, is a pretty poor effort for a 21st century TV show. I'd also like a format that avoided being yet another magnet for the likes of Lowri Turner, Carol Malone and other over-exposed rentamouths (I'm so tired of turning on the set and finding one of them, yet again, saying something wilfully contrary). There is plenty of fresh talent out there that could be put to good use.

By far and away, The Paul O'grady Show is the best entertainment. The Wright Stuff is also a fabulous Show, entertaining, funny and informatitive. It has to be said though, it sometimes takes racism a little too far, in that it MUST keep showing shots of Black People in the audience. I speak as someone who does not have a racialist bone in my body. Wright Stuff Team... We are all important as PEOPLE! Irelavent of the colour of our skins. I love Come Dine With Me, it has been going for sometime now and unfortunately of late it has only been repeats, can we expect some new eps? Does anybody remember a programme that came out at about the same time called Coach Trip? Also a laugh and a half to see how they all got on, or as most of the time they were voting each other off the coach how they didn't get on

I agree, Lemon drop etc. "Coach trip" was compulsive viewing. The way they got rid of each other was a joy to behold. And we saw some interesting places. To boot!!

Why not do something really groundbreaking like broadcasting a constantly moving kaleidoscope pattern with a voice over narrating the words "You are not alone" for 120 mins untill we get to 7pm when the real programmes start.Think of the money you would save!
