Hiya, Veggie. Saw your post after I posted mine.

We don`t debate hetero relationships we just accept them.
I think that you will see hetero sexual relationships being debated elsewhere on these fora?
In this day and age where it has been illegal to discriminate against a person`s sexuality for some time, why aren`t gay relationships just accepted?
Because there is a difference between what is legally permissible and what is morally or socially acceptable. You will find that racial discrimination has been illegal for considerably longer than homophobic discrimination, and yet there are still, I understand, people in the UK today who don't like coloured people.
In encouraging this discussion, Channel 4 is just looking for a pat on the back for being open and daring, whereas in fact the representation should be happening as a matter of course.
So why is anybody bothering to comment, then?

I think hollyoaks did McDean so well!! A gay guy falls in love with his best mate. His best mate has always been staright but can't help falling in love with his best mate. I loved the fact the whole storyline was based around, you can't chose who you fall for and that there isn't a black and white when it comes to being gay and straight... ...one of THE BEST storylines the soap has had to date...Im so glad that craig was brought back for JP's exit so they could have their sunset ending and portray the strength of true love... leilaxJustin MichaelaxJosh - FIRST FIC: LOVE? I COULD WRITE YOU THAT STORY... <3 McAsh <3 John PaulxCraig Forever + Always - Sunset Ending 2008 McDeaner for Life!!

I thought the love between Craig and Paul was portrayed well. I would like to see more bi characters like Kris. Kris has been under-used in terms of liking both boys and girls. The aids story is sad for him, I would like to see him in a more positive or adventurous bi story, where he befriends a couple and falls for both of them, causing a bizarre love triangle or at least making them both question their orientation. I included something like that in a Hollyoaks fiction recently. ............PinkyA Check out my fic: Newt & Lauren 10 Years On Member #1 of Lewters Club <3

And NONE of the gays I know spend anytime hanging around the public toilets. Even those who are not in stable relationships don`t cruise the local public toilets looking to hook up.

All my gay friends are all in long-term relationships too, and i love them to bits ...but the public toilet thing was done in Get Real! (Film 4 movie i think) and Clapton (Sp?) Interesting feedback so far - the consensus seems to be we are broadly getting things right, but continue to watch out for sexual stereotyping, some concern about whether gay women get the same amount of airtime as gay men and a reminder about making sure that the moderation on this forum allows for proper discussion of these issues. I will make sure all those comments get passed on to the appropriate people - thanks! Paula

But basically, they are works of fiction? Based on fact, but made with more "artistic licence" than normal reality.

I have to agree with Mr Woolf - I don't think in the UK anything should be closed off for adult respectful debate, 'because it's legal', 'it's accepted by a majority', or otherwise. I'm not advocating hatred or bigotry, my best friend is gay and lives with his bf... I don't love him any less, (in fact I love him more because now I understand who he really is and I can still go out with him for dinner and not be betraying my hubby!!) but it STILL doesn't mean that morally I am forced to accept anyone else's view or opinion on homosexuality. I still think there are boys and girls, and we have different bits that fit together, for a reason. My friend knows that, but it doesnt change what I think of him, or him of me. We love each other, I'm sure there's things in my life he doesn't approve of, it's not our place to judge each other, or force our views on one another. Oh, for the record, according to my friends, the selected BB contestants are NOT representative of gay people. My friends don't mince, wear feathers or makeup, and only one of them has a marginally camp voice

Hi all, I've picked up on the comments about moderation here. Discussion on homosexuality is of course very welcome on these forums and some of you took part in the discussions around the drama Clapham Junction last year. Comments or topics would not have been removed because they contain gay (or geigh) debate, but because they would have broken the guidelines in another way. Constructive debate between FMs with opposing views is very much welcome, so bring it on with the same respect for other FMs and groups you are discussing, as you would expect for yourself (and failing that please keep within the guidelines)! Thanks C4 Admin

Hi, Becs: It's not often that anyone agrees with me, so I suspect that either you misunderstood what I was getting at, or else I have misunderstood your comments. My preference would be to have nothing more suggestive than a heterosexual couple holding hands before 10 o'clock at night. That way, impressionable children don't have their minds confused by stuff like this. I don't see how programmers can make a distinction between the belief that "Son of Chuckie" distorts a child's perception of propriety, but that homosexual relationships should be portrayed as being equally valid as "normal" relationships?

I`m not just talking about THIS subject, but othe subjects that have been started by the same people.
Subjects like this in the past, even without managing to use trigger words have invariably been deleted, thereby silencing the discussion. So as the forums are part of Channel 4, shouldn`t they also come under the C4 remit of appealing to the tastes and interests of a a culterally dverse society?
well i pretty much live in the bb forums, i'm gay and the only issue i had was one of the things trown at me last time the banstick was waved in my direction when i was discussing aids and the government doing nothing about it, i havvened to make a comment about what i thought would be a good hard hitting tagline, aparently it was a little too hard hitting for our overmoderators sensitive little eyes. but on your general comment about asking questions then deleting the replies, yes i can barely post in one of these type of thread without my post and anyone who quotes its posts vanishing.

i hate to say it but you'll find that boys bits fit together quite well too, so well in fact that plenty of straight men will do the same thing with their girlfriends quote: Originally posted by becstar77: Oh, for the record, according to my friends, the selected BB contestants are NOT representative of gay people. thats absolutely true, bb gay men all tend to be mincing faries or so far in the closet they'd never admit they were gay ( to jason bb5 ) wheras in real life i know very few gay men like that.

Both Hotpants Helen and myself have had posts critical of the moderation of the forums removed from this thread already BBBS Mine was asking Paula for a stickied thread in every forum where we could report/question moderation decisions - and also requested that the mods should not have the right to remove posts from that thread. I have said earlier in this thread that I was a bit bored of gay issues but I have changed my mind. I want to see more representation and more information and as much discussion as possible. I really can't stand the thought of anyone gay being treated like a monster because of their sexual preferences. No one should have to live their lives in seclusion and suffer intolerance. Gay people deserve love and companionship same as the rest of us. I have now become a person who will fight for gay rights from now on because my recent experiences have made me realise just how awful things can be for gay people. I may not be very mobile but I will add my voice to the many people who are working hard for this worthy cause.

i think you mean OVERMODERATION and its just fine if you have finaly picked up on it after 2 years os so of complaints, but the big question is will you actualy do something about it? thats where my doubts creep in. thats assuming you get to see this post, most of my previous posts to you have been overmoderated long before you got to see them. as to discussion being open, please dont make me laugh, how is open adlut discussion supposed to take place in an atmosphere of fear generated by the apaling overmoderation, heck we cant even discuss things like 5 year old without threads getting deleted, on the VERY rare occasion an adult discussion does take place it suddenly vanishes without trace, so please dont lie to us about wanting adult discussion because you'd need moderators that understood what an adult discussion was.
