Currently one the bookies' favourite for the main debates on The TV Show, Saturday 5 April, 4.05pm is: Fine before 9: what should youngsters be watching on TV? With A Cook’s Tour of Spain in the dock for showing a pig being killed; Eastenders heavily criticised for depicting a live burial; and gay kissing on Hollyoaks also receiving complaints; The TV Show asks: what’s appropriate viewing before 9pm?
What do you Hollyoaks fans think? Is seeing two guys or girls kissing on the TV a problem? Did any of you catch the Eastenders episode or A Cook’s Tour of Spain? Are there any other storylines that should be included in the debate?

i think its ridiculous that hollyoaks should get complaints. so what if there's gay kissing before 9? nobody would complain if it was hetrosexual! IT also just happens that this storyline actually won an award at the DS soap awards for the best stroyline so there!

I don't think its rite to say tht two men kissing should not be allowed because it gives people the wrong message it makes them think that its not ok to be gay!!! Bit of both I'd have thought. In which case TV has to tread the fine line between depicting reality and condoning / encouraging the immoral.
C4 has always been at the forefront with 'that' kiss on Brookie. Lesbianism has had its fair share of coverage. Bit of titalation for the blokes, but a smidge of homosexuality isn't accepted in the same way.
It's only alright to show blokes kissing if it's okay to be gay and it still isn't in our supposed pc society.
How about more entertainment for the sake of it. Things like friends rather than the gritty realism. Children (which the watershed is there to portect) don't need to see reality. They've got the rest of their lives for that. Yet, opening their eyes to issues such as child abductions, internet predators and the like is a very useful message.
In short: less violence in the name of entertainment, whether it is verbal, physical, or mental, direct or implied. The same can be said of sex. Bring back Mary Whitehouse

Look, were living in an era where were taught that its ok to be different and that know one should be discrimnated agaisnt for being gay...therefore why shouldnt it be aloud on Tv? And as far as it being before the watershed i dont think any of the hollyoaks scenes crossed the boudaries at all. Its nothing people havent seen before!
Soaps are meant to be about life. This happens in life. Get over it!

Not quite that easy HCC. The time thing is to give parents a guide as to the suitability of programs for their children. The celluloid childcare in the corner isn't a 'watch with mother' experience, so the time is often an easy way for paretns to guarantee their approval.
On the other hand, the amount of children with televisions in their bedrooms, laptops with all manner of uncensored content a click away and nothing more to safeguard them than a 'I am over18' button, does seem to invalidate the against argument.
I'd like to throw a couple of programs into the frame. Sugar Rush and Skins. Both great, both with a high sex and sexualised content. Both after the watershed. Both with large followings of children. If you have WKD in garish colours, but put an over 18 label it's not going to be religiously followed, the same with programs that are on after 9 and then get away with murder.
Another bugbear is the lack of childrens television. Gone is the hour after school of CITV, or CBeebies on terrestial. The majority of programs aimed at children are bought in from overseas. Whatever happened to home grown entertainment?

i feel that Hollyoaks gettin a complaint is stupid as hollyoaks has not stepped over the line well in my opinion and y is there never a complaint when it men kisssing women i am sick of everi moaning it a part of life some men r gay and sum or not that just the way it is !

I think it is wrong that people are complaining about gay kissing before 9. Children should be learning about sexuallity and learning that it is fine to be gay or different. If no-one wants to watch it how come it won an award
The watershed is stupid anyway because a lot of younger children have tv's in their rooms/ go to bed well after nine anyway- it doesn't make a differnece.
As for the gay kissing- I get really annypoed about this. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HETROSEXUAL AND HOMOSEXUAL? The people who phoned in and complained should be the ones who people are having a go at- not HO!
Obivously the people who are complaining are living in a fantesy world where nothing that they don't want to happen happens. So they need to realise that time is moving on and people have the right to be in love with whoever they choose weather it be a woman or a man. I think its silly to be honest.. xxx
