Would just like to say well done to Channel 4, Hugh and Jamie for bringing this usually neglected subject to the public's attention. Let's hope everyone who is convinced this needless cruelty should not continue with for and buy free range in butchers'shops, supermarkets, restaurants and take aways. Only pressure from US will change the situation. Hopefully the price of free range will then come down and convince people on a limited budget to buy it. When I went into my local Sainsbury's last week there was plenty of well-displayed organic chicken, but very little just free range and the few free range portions were well hidden at the back of a top shelf. As I was leaving I went to customer services to ask about this, mentioned the great programmes and was told my comments would be passed to the manager. Let's hope it is now better displayed. Krissy.
I agree entirely. It's rubbish saying that abominable cruelty to chickens is what the consumer wants. My family are certainly going to be more vigilant when it comes to products containing eggs.
Unfortunately, the majority of people will still always go for the cheapest meat they can get their grubby little mitts on.
BUT... programmes like this do make a difference on some people's attitudes and that and any negative publicity in the media MAY just make the major supermarkets sit up and take notice of what they're selling us.
