As the longest-ever series of Cutting Edge draws to a close, the commissioning editor reflects on what makes a successful documentary, the films we’ve seen and those that are coming up.

Plenty of these films caused a huge reaction in the forums when they were aired, but he’d appreciate your feedback on the series as the whole – the best and worst, and what’s missing, as he gears up for the next season in the autumn.

Read what he’s got to say here.

PS [25-04-08] noting the reaction that Strictly Baby Fight Club, received the folks at The TV Show want to know: Do you want to debate this on the next show?

Other Cutting Edge in this series include Cotton Wool Kids, Shannon Matthews: The Family's Story, Sex Change Soldier, Phone Rage, My Street and A Boy Called Alex, find details on the entire series on the Cutting Edge site.

Thanks.

The commissioning editor is Meredith Chambers - I thought it was supposed to be Sarah Mulvey.

Anyhow, the commissioning editor has been successful at finding documentaries on their own.

However, if you truly want to be thought provoking and cause massive debate - why not a documentary on what is REALLY happening with multiculturalism e.g. why government policy (propaganda) only paints it as good.

The folks at The TV Show have noted the stir that Strictly Baby Fight Club has provoked.

Do you think that this would make a good debate for the next The TV Show?
- What do you think of documentaries that are focused on children?
- Is enough care and attention paid to how these films will affect these children's lives?

If not what else would you like to debate?

Thanks,
The TV Show

Today the Rowantree Foundation has issued a report saying that our political voting system is in meltdown.

Any chance of a programme to discuss why this has happened (tho think we all have a good idea Big Grin) and get a team of political pundits to investigate alternative voting possibilities and what can be done to re-engage the people.

My family tree is full of nuts.

Baby fight club is an example of the 'helicopter parenting' phenomena which I believe is a serious child health issue that should be discussed. It ties in quite nicely with Child Genius documentary as the methods employed are the same.

This last series of 'Cutting' Edge was by far the worst.
As I've said in a previous post it was more 'blunt' than 'cutting'. It was dull, had nothing to say and was made by a bunch of people with not a programme-making bone in their bodies.
Controversy I can take and in fact relish it. Dull is not what we expect from this series but its exactly what we got.
