I enjoyed the show. The only slight anoyance was the speaker on the portrayal of moslems in the media who would not shut up! In a week where some Moslems have been baying for the blood (literally) of a woman who, in rooky ignorance allowed a teddybear to be called Mohammed, I think Moselms need to look to those factions of their religion who stereotype the rest of them. Maybe if they made more efforts to be seen to condemn and curtail the truly horrific actions of the few (who must be outnumbered millions to one by Moselms who abhor their actions) their portrayal might change.

I missed the show I'm afraid and don't have c4+1 or sky+ or any other kind of + Wink

I agree with Amanda's comments though, that as unfair as it might seem to have to almost constantly defend your religion and say "we're not all like that" against the backdrop of a small minority of (very) vocal fruit-loops, it is what the peace loving Muslim must do.

As it was during the time when IRA bombs were going off, the media will always seem to give airtime to those whose condemnation has a large "BUT......" tacked on the end.

British Muslims need to come out from the shadows and say at every chance they get how much they are against violence and terrorism.

Not sure about the time the programme went out, perhaps clashing with the sports results programmes is not such a good idea. I did take part in the programme though very briefly. Will reserve judgement on the programme itself until I have seen a couple more. Still think the scheduling needs a bit more thought.

I think the timing is good, as it is before the early evening Saturday staples start. I was trying to remember the name of the TV discussion programme that Ch4 used to run, anyone remember? I used to love that, and I am sure I am going enjoy this one. It's really important to have this sort of programme I think.

As for the Muslim debate, nice to hear from you OV. I don't think they need only to condemn violence and terrorism, they need to hand over those in their midst who are responsible. After all, we hear learned religious Muslim leaders telling us that the whole concept of terrorism in anti-Islamic, so there should be no problem in clearing out these undesirable elements of their community.

Please..... ths show is great but clearly NEW.

Lots of odd camera shots and weird links.

Sorry but I lost it when it came down to religion. I know it is important but there is, and never will be a right or a wrong or even a middle. Sell out maybe, but I speak for a majority who just want to get on with everyone without getting heavy.

Much better if "You Say We Pay Scandal" had been the topic!

Not a bad start. Having seen the format I think it should be an hour-long programme, perhaps featuring just one broadcast - probably the one which had provoked most response in the forums and media.

Hi Amanda Wink

Is the programme you're thinking of "Right To Reply" ?

You're right that those whom we have probably never met, but still wish us harm, are being in our midst somewhere and there are people who could turn them in.

As I said I didn't see the programme but do intend to see future editions. I agree with M that most people just want to buy the world a coke and live in peace, however, in today's society, it just isn't that simple. It might have been if previous governments had taken a much tougher stance on a whole range of issues long before now. As usual they take our tax revenue and do nothing apart from make pretty speeches about how grateful we should be feeling.

I agree with theid, in that half an hour (although once you allow for adverts, opening/closing credits, general waffle and faffing about, you're actually left with about 23 minutes!) just isn't long enough to discuss anything of weight, however, it is a start Smile

Need more notice before asking people to be involved. I was asked on friday, replied right away and then when tuning in yesterday to see what it was like discovered it was the show I wanted to talk on!
I missed most of the discussion too, but Daisy clearly showed how she hadn't a clue/didn't care about the evidence proving the extent neglect babies in her show suddered. Choosing to pull funny faces instead. Shrugging your shoulders doesn't get you off!

It did all seem a bit last minute didn't it? I was asked to be on but at that time thought the debate was going to be around YSWP. Definitely needs to be longer and yes OV, it was Right to Reply, thanks!

I agree, even though we would love to tune out as M did to the eternally knotty discussion of religion and it's every day implications to us all, the times we live in really kinda demand we pay attention!

Hi everyone,

They let me speak towards the end (Muslim guy in the back row) so Im grateful. I went because I wanted to represent all the deent Muslims out there, but in the end I think I just stated the obvious !

I had a lot more to say - like how I agree Muslim people themselves could start making films like Britz to highlight all the common values we all share, that we really are decent people having a tough time right now. Something to balance all the crazy reactions to sudanese teddy bears and danish cartoonists etc.

And how religion or politics or foreign policy is really only the face of the problem, but fear and paranoia are the real root, the cause of all conflicts throughout history, including why people want to kill for a teddy. Anything we do to promote fear is the worst thing we can do. It'll only drive us apart.

As you say the show could be longer or focus on just one topic. Either one could've lasted the whole length if they had a room full of people passionate about it.

It was a little odd mixing two such different subjects! Laugh

Munir

Well done Munir, even if you thought you stated the obvious, sometimes that is what needs stating! We all know that 99.9% of Muslims are like you, balanced and, well, just like anyone else, but it is nice to be able to have the chance to debate with you!

Thanks for the invite OV and Amanda.....I was wondering where everyone got too!! As for the on-going debate, super, you guys are right it is a start. I was invited to the show but couldn't make it and was disappointed it was so short.....there was definitely a Shariah TV length programme and debate there.

I missed it, but I would have watched it if I'd known it was on. I was expecting a discussion show dealing with what might well be contrversial issues to be on sometime in the evening not buried in the horseracing slot on a Saturday afternoon .A bit of advertising might have helped as well,

Yep that is good news.....if only to keep the peace. I heard some nasty things on a national 'talk' radio station last week about this and was worried(angered aswell)that this could escalate, last thing we Muslims need, but our man Lord Ahmed and his tory sidekick seem to have done the job......back to work!!!!

the show has same problem as right 2 reply-the viewers come on with complaints that have merit and the invited programme makers bat them aside and declare there is no problem with the show they have produced.

Hi Amanda,

Yes, I suppose I did sort of opt out on a tricky issue....anything for an easy/easier life. Some of my closest friends are Muslims so I am kinda fully aware of it's importance in today's world. Wink

Downloaded it free on 4od, but you can only keep it for 2 days.

A few interesting comments I missed the first time round.

I thought the show was ok but as is usual with live studio discussions people just started talking over each other. I also find this whole Muslims v. The Western World debate rather tiresome at this stage.

I'd like to see a return of Roger Bolton's Right To Reply. I always found it to be an interesting programme and it was a pity that it was dropped.
