I censor myself quite often. I could have said stuff in this thread that I would have regretted! Wink

I have no problem with satire; I enjoy many types of humour. However, I would not have used the name of a small child, who could be suffering unimaginable horrors as we speak, to make my point. I think there is a limit and that would certainly be mine.

People who say what they want, when they want, are not always the most pleasant people to be around, in my experience! Ninja

I think the only limit is the context and who you're speaking to. In the case of BB&F the context was as part of a satire where the small child was not the target of the joke, and who they were speaking to was a mature audience expecting satire. I think comedy is also a special area with regards to censorship in that there is a lot more you can say if it's dressed up as a joke than if you simply came out and said it. I'd even go so far as to say that comdedy is one of the few places you can actually tell the truth in public these days.

But at least you know where you are with them.

"Without free speech no search for truth is possible... no discovery of truth is useful... Better a thousandfold abuse of free speech than denial of free speech. The abuse dies in a day, but the denial slays the life of the people, and entombs the hope of the race." - Charles Bradlaugh.

So, you agree that there are limits - is that not self censorship?

As far away from them as possible, hopefully! Big Grin
