We knew that one of the show's stars would leave on Saturday night - but we didn't expect to say goodbye to two.
While everyone was sorry to see finalist Kimberley Southwick go, her exit was clouded by scandal as longstanding judge Sharon Osbourne walked off the show.
Producers are still hoping that Sharon will be back in her judges seat next week. But there was shock for programme makers as Sharon walked off the set of the programme right in the middle of the results show.
As far as the show is aware, no-one saw an arguement between Sharon and Dannii take place, as has been reported in today's newspapers.
But 9.6million viewers saw Sharon's later meltdown on ITV1.
Sharon's outburst came when it became clear that in the viewers vote, two of her '14-24 girls' acts, Kimberley Southwick and Alisha Bennett, can come out on the bottom.
As the girls' mentor, Sharon had earlier received criticism from her fellow judges for the songs she'd chosen for her girls, especially Alisha's number, a cover of Gabrielle's Dreams. Simon also called Kimberley's effort 'karaoke'.
While Kimberley and Alisha awaited the judges' verdicts, Dermot asked Sharon for her reaction. She told him:"I don't think I can be allowed to say what I think because I'd be banned from national television forever".
And as the girls' fate was put into the judges' hands, Sharon stood up and walked away from the judges' bench, ready to leave the studio, and saying "That's it. I'm out, gone..."
Dermot explained to a confused audience, "Sharon can't choose between her acts. The final vote will be between three judges, as Sharon has decided to leave the night."
"No, leave the show!" She shouted. Kimberley then saw Sharon take her shoes off, say "I'm not having this, darlings!" and straight away exited the building ( although hopefully she put her shoes back on first!)
Sharon has not yet told programme makers if her decision is final but she has continued to carry out her mentoring role, calling Kimberley several times that night and the next morning. Kimberley told us, "Sharon was really upset and angry She really took it to heart and felt it was a personal attack on her". However Kimberley went for Lunch at Mrs O's on Sunday.
"She's not pleased at all. And she didn't like the fact I went on first because that's like, the curse of The X Factor".
Creative director Brian Friedman spoke for everyone when he said "I hope she comes back!"
Souces at the show told us, " we have not head from Sharon since Saturday night but we hope she will be back next week.

i did feel sorry for her though coz bothe the bottom two were hers....and yeah i dunno if i like kimberley or not..but i was still sad when she left coz she actually did really well...omg leons song was so funny awww but i felt sorry for him...hes so sweet!!! i love same difference...they're so cute!!! i wouldnt mind if they won...omh nicki was so good i was like WOW!!!! ooo yeah futreproof annoy me quite a bit....AND RYDIANS HAIR!!!!!!! haha im hating less now though....at boot camp i HATED him but now not so much.....hmm i dunno who i want to win this year....i wouldnt mind if same difference won...theyre so cute!! if sharon leaves il be so angry!!!!
