I've downloaded & installed 4OD but am having trouble getting it started.

When I click on the 4OD desktop icon nothing happens.

I've uninstalled & re-installed again in case it was a bad installation first time round, but the problem's still there.

I've checked my firewall settings and have even set them to OFF in case they were blocking acess.

I did have 4OD on my machine a few months back and it worked fine then.

Any ideas as to what could be causing this?

Thanks in advance.

Well it doesn't even work for me... This basically means I've downloaded this, got nothing out of it and filled my computer full with rubbish... 4oD is misleading, it's obvious these things have been left out of the "large print" for a reason. People only use small print for one thing and that's to abuse it. Another unhappy Channel 4 viewer...

This service is so moody and flaky - it's almost always painfully slow, often the program startpage won't even come up, and frequently (especially in the evenings) my own "downloads" / "ready to play" sections aren't accessible.

Great when you've just downloaded something you paid for, and are now desperately trying to watch, before the rental time expires... and you cannot - for the hell of it - get this lame and over-stretched 'service' to even give you access to your own purchases.

That's a bad rip-off if you ask me.

Please attempt the steps below (it is most likely that carrying out step 1 will resolve your issue)
1. Please ensure that KService.exe and KHost.exe are added as exceptions to your antivirus, spyware and firewall software and allowed full access to the internet.
- Sometimes security software mistakenly blocks KService.exe (Delivery Service Manager) and KHost.exe but they 100% safe services that are essential to 4oD. For a step by step guide about configuring your security software please see our help pages: http://help.channel4.com/4oD/
KService.exe and KHost.exe are stored here: C:\Program Files\Kontiki

Please test 4oD using free content.

If you still experience difficulties follow the instructions below.
1. Check if KService has been registered as a Windows service.
A. In Windows XP:- Click 'Start' then 'Run'.
- Type services.msc and press enter/return.
B. In Windows Vista:
- Open the search box on the start menu type services.msc and press enter/return.
- Follow and UAC prompts.
2. On the list of services look for 'KService'.
A. If it is present and does not have a status of 'Started' the right-click on it and select Start. Attempt to start 4oD.
B. If it is not present continue with step 4 below.
3. Open a command prompt with administrator privileges:
A. In Windows XP:
- Ensure you are logged in as an Administrator.
- Click 'Start' the 'Run'.
- Type cmd and press enter/return.
B. In Windows Vista:
- Open the search box on the start menu and type cmd.
- Right-click on the cmd program that is shown.
- Select 'Run as Administrator' and follow the UAC prompts.
4. Highlight all of the line below, right click on it and choose Copy.
"C:\Program Files\Kontiki\KService.exe" -service
5. Right click in the black Command Prompt Window and choose Paste, then hit the Enter/Return button
6. Highlight all of the line below, right click on it and choose Copy.
net start kservice
7. Right click in the black Command Prompt Window and choose Paste, then hit the Enter/Return button
8. The above command will return "The KService was started successfully"

I fixed this my uninstalling 4od, and bbc iplayer if you have it and the kservice if it is listed

then go to my computer, c drive, documents and settings (for xp) users(for vista) then select all users, then select application data, (hidden files may need to be viewable) find kontiki folder, delete it

reboot, reinstall

ME TOO!!! Nothing I do seems to work. It seems that the code they ask you to copy and paste can't be found.

This originally started with a Error 1904 flash problem and took me down the path of KService not being able to go on the "start" function. I've been going round in circles removing all Kontiki files, removing 4od, flash player and iplayer. Reinstalling flash & 4od but NOTHING!!! Won't open have been in contact with the help desk who just send me the same information over and over. That being "unstall 4od and flash" then reinstall it. IT DOESN'T WORK!!!!! Can anyone out there PLEASE HELP. I know that my computer works fine and is able to use 4od as I have previously had it up and running. Since wiping my computer clean due to viruses 4od has just not been able to run. I desperately want to watch the new series of Skins. Thanks in advance.

thenewtaskmaster - it looks like you've missed the quote marks out, you need the " " round the file path.

I had the same problem and solved it myself. Check out the link in my signature. I'm not looking for a gold medal, I just wish 4OD would give out better advice to people cos this drove me nuts for days!

Hi, I've been struggling all day with something similar to what the posters above have experienced. Namely that KService would not start no matter what. Trying to start it manually from the services console would result in an unspecified error, but i did track down an error file in the application data/kontiki directory which I no longer have to hand (have tried system restores and all sorts so it got lost). It was something to do with creating a TCPSocketPair or something so I thought it firewall related but alas switching the firewall off didn't help. After many uninstalls/cleans and restarts I found a solution. It was very much a 2am clutching at straws type affair. I decided to stop services that were not obvioulsy system related hoping that one of them was causing a conflict and guess what.... ONE WAS!!!

So you may like to try this stopping service approach if all else fails. For those with McAfee Security Center, one of it's spanners was in my works. The culprit in my case was McAfee Redirector Service. Stop the service, set startup type to disabled or manual and try starting KService again. It's worked for me and I hope it works for you. All I wanted to do was watch an episode of Starkey's Monarchy, however 10 hours later I just need some sleep.

Good night and Good luck.
