I get this message when I try to play files:

"An exception was raised while generating a license: DRMLicense generation was not successful. Exception type: c4.vod.pc.drm.licensing.LicensingException. Exception message: Invalid client rights manager version..."

I've tried deleting the DRM folders, and installing the update from windows, but this doesn't work. I've tried changing the WMP settings so that licenses aren't automatically requested (someone said this works).

I'm using WMP 10, and I can't get WMP 11 so I need a fix that works with WMP 10

Cheers

4oD will function with WMP 10. If you are unable to upgrade to WMP 11 please refer to the Microsoft Website

***If you are using WINDOWS XP, please attempt the steps below:

1. Open Internet Explorer and go to http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=34506

2. Click the Upgrade button (if the button is greyed out then proceed to step 4)

Once the process has completed the text on the page should change to: Progress Status: The security components have been upgraded successfully. To play protected files, restart your digital media player. If you cannot play protected files after restarting your digital media player, restart your computer.

3. Try to download something free from 4oD

4. If you still experience problems it may be necessary for you to re-install Windows Media Player or upgrade to version 11.

a) First remove Windows Media Player using the Add & Remove programs utility in your Control Panel
(Proceed to the next step if Windows Media Player does not appear here)

b) Using Internet Explorer download the latest version of Windows Media Player from Microsoft website:
www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/11/default.aspx

c) Run the Windows Media Player setup file to install it.

5. Finally download the latest 4oD setup file from
http://www.channel4.com/4od/installer/channel4_on_demand.exe then run it and choose Repair.

Restart your computer and launch 4oD again. Please first test with free content.

***If you are using WINDOWS VISTA, please attempt the steps below:

Please attempt the steps below:

1) Open Internet Explorer and go to http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=34506

2) Click the Upgrade button

Once the process has completed the text on the page should change to: Progress Status: The security components have been upgraded successfully. To play protected files, restart your digital media player. If you cannot play protected files after restarting your digital media player, restart your computer.

3) Try to download something free from 4oD

If you still experience problems then it may be necessary to reset your DRM. 4oD uses Microsoft's Digital Rights Management (DRM) which is a software system used to administer and protect the licences of video, music and other assets in digital environments. It is possible that the DRM system on your computer may get corrupted. For example, this problem may occur if you have replaced hardware components in your computer.

Instructions on how to reset your DRM system are provided by Microsoft and can be found at this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/faq/drm.mspx#q11_4

As Microsoft's instructions cover a number of possible computer configurations, you may find it easier to follow our simplified instructions:

PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY:
If you are using Windows Media Player 11 you will lose all media usage rights and you will not be able to play any protected files (4oD content and any other DRM protected files which you have on your system) until the new media usage rights are downloaded. Neither Channel 4 nor Microsoft accept any responsibility for any loss of DRM licences or associated media usage rights from your system.

1) Locate the DRM folder on your hard disk. This is usually located at: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\DRM

2) Right-click the DRM folder and click Copy

3) Click 'Organize' then paste

4) Open the DRM folder

5) Click 'Organize' and 'Select all'

6) Click 'Organize' and 'Delete'

7) Open Internet Explorer and visit: http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp and follow the instructions to upgrade the security component of Windows Media Player.

8) Finally download the latest 4oD setup file from
http://www.channel4.com/4od/installer/channel4_on_demand.exe then run it and choose Repair.

Restart your computer and launch 4oD again. Please first test with free content.

You should then be able to use 4oD.

Hi,

I too am struggling with the DRM issue.

I have upgraded to Media player 11 but keep getting the "We have detected that you require a DRM upgrade. Click Continue to upgrade or Cancel to go back."

I click ok to continue and I get a message suggesting an upgrade of a component of windows mediua player is required. The padlock icon is displayed with a red cross indicated. I click to go ahead and wait for a few seconds to be told that the component cannot be installed!

Please help - I have tried a few seraches to no avail!
