Channel 4 is now lagging behind ITV!! Both ITV and BBC have found ways to sort out the Digital Rights Management of their programmes so that they can be played on MACs but C4 still can't be ar$sed. They claim that apple won't release the licence for them to be be able to stream their content. Funny how both BBC and ITV have both found ways to sort this out.
With the amount of money that is paid to C4 as a public broadcaster through our taxes we should all be able to get access to the programme content not just one herd of sheep that are windows users.
"Well you can bet if you've got scruples they belong to someone else!"
Do they have some kind of exclusivity thing with Microsoft or something? I just don't understand why its taken them this long to sort this out, if they even are sorting it out.
Video on demand (VOD) is growing in popularity. I like the idea of being able to watch programmes as and when I want to rather than when scheduled, but I will never return to a Windows platform. I will simply stop watching Channel 4 programmes if I can't view them on my Mac. Please get it sorted C4
At the moment, Catch-Up and 4oD is unavailable to other operating systems, including Mac OS and Linux.
The reason for this is our content providers (e.g. the production companies who make our shows) insist on using a DRM licensing system to protect their programmes, and the sole DRM solution that matches the content owners' requirements is Windows DRM. However, we are looking at other solutions to allow Mac and Linux systems to access this content.
So the BBC is better than channel 4 huh? the BBC have been supporting apple macintosh for some time now and I must say I do enjoy their documentry and comedy programming! sort it out Channel 4! are things a bit tight at the moment? bless... web developers hard to find?... you can hire good ones for around 25k I run a studio for an ad agency do you want my webbies to come and sort it out for you? how long are you guys intending to lag?
