Does anyone think ( as do ) that Noel saying " no one has ever dealt at the second offer "
while Jack was deciding - tipped the balance
into a suicidal refusal ?
The remark was unecessary. In my it often takes
more courage to accept an offer tnan to refuse one.
He made him an offer he couldnt refuse - and he did.

I agree, and I also think Noel's remark about choosing the pregnant women when Jack said he didn't have a system lost him the 250k.
Although we often argue on here that the contestants are adults and capable of making their own choices, obviously many of them listen to Noel or the other players when they should just do what THEY feel right.

I agree the social pressures not to deal must be enormouse, something Noel plays on frequently.

But Jack has been one of the most 'bullish' players while on the wings and usually encourages others to no deal.

Hoisted by his own petard.

I'd like to see these 3 people play a game: Dorsetlad, gamesman, the rationalist. I'm sure it's not that easy to put into practise all you've thought about prior to playing when you're there in front of the cameras.

I never gamble but studied the psychology and maths of gambling all my life.

You PP reminded me that Noel worked for Endemol
their interest is his No 1 priority - and their interest is to discourage early deals. Dont be fooled by the sympathy charade - after 750
sessions - who can blame the poor chap Angel

Noel has for yonks being mouthing the same
inane comments - as well as smutty and unhelpful ones eg
"He wants to buy THAT box for £x "- in fact the banker wants to buy ALL the boxes extant at the offer - ie its an insurance premium .
" You've beaten the banker !!" - whatever that means.
" He's terrified of whats in he box ....... " . And some actually think so !!

Do we have to be treated like children ?

I know! But, it kind of gives the players a sense of belonging in my opinion!

Well done to jack on his win. After he was offered 12,000 he said "go on Noel I'll go another round". I think this was a big mistake as his offer dramatically dropped to 4,000 forcing him to go on. It must be hard but I would keep my cards to my chest.

If you consider these comments to be treating you like a child, gamesman, you are not as worldly as you would have us believe. DOND is TV and as such the best TV IS (sadly) car crash TV. Would be developers on Property Ladder would not make good TV if they took every bit of Sarah Beeny's advice and obeyed the various laws regarding developing. Contestants on The Weakest Link would be no use if they were all prepared to play fair.

"Good news is no news" The author, Nicholas Fisk, once commented in Trillions that all news is about war no matter how big or small and TV is simply the media way of expressing that point. Game shows are all about risk and gambling no matter which way you slice it. Noel is an agent of endemol and, of course, his loyalty lies with them. His regular use of such phrases and "goads" is as intrinsic to DOND as "You are the weakest link, goodbye" is to The Weakest Link. Surely you of all people should be aware of the idea of "Gamesmanship"?

To use recent examples it is down to the player's greed (Angela) or common sense (Emma) to know the best point to quit and that also includes the ability to deny themselves taking any account of these phrases which crop up with great frequency in the show. Emma made a courageous early deal and proved she made the right decision, sadly Dave didn't, the same for Angela but as I have said in another thread they have the choice and it is up to them how they gamble.

Did anyone else think Jack's wife looked like Camilla Parker-Bowles ?! Once again the player's first offer was the highest of the game (£12000). Sooner or later someone will be brave enough to take it (but risk not having their game televised !)

WE ARE ALL WISE AFTER THE EVENT BUT SHOW ME SOMEONE WHO IS WISE BEFORE THE EVENT !!!

I am old enough to have a copy of the original book " Gamesmanship"
People are free to make choices - even unwise ones . But it is worrying to how easily people are taken in and cant diferentiate between the
facts and fairytales.

"Pain is so close to pleasure" in other words. Or are you aiming that barb at me, gamesman?

After all most fairytales incorporate the evil character (in this scenario The Banker) whereas the facts are the boxes and the immutability of the placing of the sums of money even if the whereabouts of each sum is unknown to the player.

My statement still stands "the best TV is car crash TV".
