Hello, I missed again the sunday show . Do anyone know who is the winner, please. DOND should put the winner's name up on this forum.
Watching DOND from Hungary!

quote: Yep. Web entry now open until 12 noon the following day.
And I'm not so sure that all the web entries being successful is a glitch in the system - - after all, they can't send back postal entries stamped "you were not picked this time" can they ? So they have to let everybody succeed in being entered. It will probably make it even harder to win though.
All web entries are being made successfully, the querystring that is returned after submitting the form is something like http://dond.itouch.co.uk/success.jsp?id=00000000 except the entry id will be a generated number. This suggests that all entries submitted are successfull.

Where do you see that Techno? I used it and got 3 entries, then 3 entries going back to the site, so will do 6 less entries in case they count. I`m a technophobe as you can probably guess, but does that mean I could do that 30 times and not bother with the form ?

I wouldn't use that link, I think that the id is generated by a server side script, to see the querystring after submitting the form simply right click on the page where it tells you Thank you etc. and select properties this will give you the full URL which contains your entry id, if you use the link above it will probably be rejected. The entry id that is returned probably has to be the same as the id generated in the form and you would need to fill in the form for your details to be saved to the database, remember i'm only guessing, but i think thats how it works.

It would appear there is no longer a short list, at least not at the point of entry. I imagine this is because of the mail entry which i think is a very bad idea. I don't understand why they have to have mail entry now, i understand that not everyone has a PC or internet but i mean mail entry, have you ever seen mail entry for this kind of contest?
I preferred the short list and the winner announced on the day at the end of the show. Frankly i have been putting off entering because i can wait till the next day, but then it just completely slips my mind i end up not entering at all.
Waiting a week to see if you won is not good and i for one think it should go back to on the day with the short list.

For some unknown reason i can't edit my own posts which is a FIRST on ANY forum i ever posted on.
Anyway, i wanted to add that because there is no short list this gives the web entrants a HUGE advantage because we can enter 30 times relatively quickly (macro anyone?) and with zero cost.
Mail entrants would have to write all 30 out and post them all and pay for stamps. Then the phone entrants would have to pay £30 to enter 30 times.
I suppose this is a good thing for us, but it does seem very unfair. Give us the short list and same day winners!

Okay I've worked out that my last theory was wrong, the id generated when loading the form is different from the success id, I still think it's a server side script that handles the requests and generates random id's both for the request and the success return id, however i think the number in the database is the return id, still unsure though

I don't think we're allowed to edit or delete our posts only the Admins are.

I wouldn't be bothered about deleting a post, but editing is a must on a forum, at least it is for me.
Correcting spelling mistakes or obvious grammar errors and adding or removing things. On every forum i am a member on i can edit my own posts and i do it often. This is the first forum i have ever came across that doesn't allow it.
The thing is, i have definitely edited posts here in the past on different forums and i did notice that i couldn't do it in others.

I think that you will find that the 'mail entry' has been added as it is now required by Law ? ... I think the inference is that a 'free' competition must be 'accessable' to ALL people and (I think) only 40% of us have a PC at Home. CRPKENT

"I've tried to start a poll thread on declaring how the winner of the competition had entered but it has not been allowed. I think it should be announced, if it was a web, phone or postal entry anyone else feel the same."
I agree Rosebud - it would be nice to know if we really have a chance.

Solinari --- look at the bottom right just under any of your own posts (only if you are logged in). There is a picture of a pencil with an eraser on the end - it's the edit tab!!!

I thought the mail entry might be a requirement as well, although it doesn't claim to be free entry, only free web entry.
I think a method of free entry may be required (as with the SCAM shows on ITV and C5 at midnight) but i they don't have mail entry and i have never seen a contest of this kind having or requiring mail entry.
As for editing, i am well aware how to do it, it says i do not have permission, do you?

This just keeps getting odder and odder. It seems i can edit my posts, but only for about 10 seconds (maybe longer) after i hit the 'Post Now' button. After that it says i don't have permission.
I have seen forums that give you a minute or so to edit a post without the 'edited by user name' or something similar, but even after that you can still edit.

I'v always thought it strange that we can't edit our own posts on here, but I think you can as long as nobody has looked at it yet, although with a foru this ize with the amount of guests there are all the time, it's not going to be long before somebody looks is it?

on the postal comp vote does one envelope represent one vote or could you put your 30 entries in one envelope, who knows?

I don't know but suspect it is 'one envelope one vote' ... otherwise they would allow us to make one Web Entry and ask for it to be 'put in' 30 times ? CRPKENT
