Curse of the Newby? It should be curse of the Oldie
Mark is another example of an 'unfortunate' player who started the game choosing players that have been there a long time. He needs to think why was he chosen in preference to them? With long standing players like Matty and the good reverend, why was he chosen today instead of them? Surely this is nothing to do with the fact that he had £100 in his box while they had £250,000 and £100,000
Noel states at the beginning of the program that the independent adjudicator os the only person who knows where the money is. He doesn't guarantee she has no influence over who is chosen to play on any day.
So players should assess the 5 players who might have been chosen, and keep them all to the 5 box stage.
I don't think the little monkey has read some of the previous thread where it is explained how the boxes are selected. It scuppers his theory completely.

How could they do that? He would have been chosen to play at least a day before filming. At the start of filming he would have chosen his box by picking a numbered ball from a bag in front of the studio audience.

It is common knowledge that the contestants are selected by the production team prior to the contestant knowing, the boxes are selected at random, when the audience walk into the studio all the sealed boxes are lined up along the walk of wealth, the contestants are taking a numbered ball from a bag, they then collect the matching box, therefore the contestant is selected before they randomly select their box. Hope this helps you understand the sequence of the game.
If they are selected the day before, it blows a hole in my theory. But surely they are selected between choosing their boxes and the start of the filming. How, otherwise, do the contestants look genuinely surprised?

Because they don't when they will play but the production crew and Noel do.

OK. Sorry to be cynical, though. But could it be that Noel and the crew (including adjudicator) know beforehand that it's going to be X, or Y or Z. Final decision is then made on which of X,Y, and Z has the 'right' amount of money in the box?
This is the essence of my original suggestion.
To be safe, contestants should save all the other 'possibles' until the end.
Can't understand your logic Monkey, the contestant is selected so that Noel can brief himself with details on them, also to prepare the studio with any required props for example a disabled contestant. All this is done before all the contestants select their boxes randomly, so how can they have a X Y Z situation as you think , maybe I'm not as cynical as you and beleive the show is a game of chance, some win and some lose.
Respect your view, Rosebud. I am a cynical old sod, but believe the program producers must keep a financial 'control' over things.
It is not beyond the realms of possibility to have three or four contestants 'rehearsed for'. Once they have selected their boxes, then the adjudicator could 'give a nod' as to which to go for.
Surely you wouldn't put this sort of thing beyond the possibility for upright, honest, straight, ethical beasts like the banker?

So you are saying that they only pick contestants who have low numbers in their boxes?
Hi Monkey, to be able to state your opinion is what this forum is all about, so pleased you are not afraid to do so. As you can see mine is different to yours on this subject so I think we should agree to disagree. Happy posting
