They never claim that the picking of the players is random, in fact its pretty obvious its not.

You don't have to be a genius to work out that the player isn't picked at random.

St Patrick's Day show featured an Irishman, Valentine's Day show featured possibly the fittest female so far, Helen so the banker could flirt - who'll be picked Easter Monday - the Easter Bunny probably !

I agree that the player selection is fixed... after all, all the contestants have different circumstances and some might not be able to stay away for lengthy amounts of time so get slotted in before others who can afford more time.

As for any kind of suggestion the money the contestants walk away is fixed... ludicrous! Wouldnt everyone be going with £250k if that was true!!! (unless the 1p club get paid to pick the 1p box!!) Roll Eyes

I'll agree with you. I don't care about whether its fixed or not. I was stating the obvious that channel 4 are lying or have some sort of magic random selection machine. I do watchthe show and do enjoy it very much. I don't think that the money in the box is fixed. To be totally honest, all the rumours are gettin on my nerves

Its not just about 'random' selection though. The 100th player having 250k sugests that that the show's producers also contrive who gets which box, so that -not only do they know who gets chosen, but also how much money they are playing with. So the banker's 'game' then becomes suspect aswell. If I was a contestant I would feel slightly cheated if I found out that the banker knew what was in my box all along.

I reckon it's fixed in that sense but who cares? It's addictive tv!

I see where you're coming from jimmyb . . .

As long as the actual game isn't fixed I'm happy enough. If I found out there was more to it than meets the eye with other elements, say for example the independent adjudicator was in cahoots with the banker, I'd never watch it again. The fixes you list don't concern me apart from one - the £250k being in the box on the 100th show. If I found out that was a definite fix I'd probably also boycott the show.

Whether the contestants are picked or randomly selected, only C4 can say, but I doubt there is any other kind of fix. Any competition like this (with prize money involved) has to be legal, hence the independent adjudicator (I think the lotteries and gaming commision has something to do with this).

If they were pre-selecting the amounts and who got them (bearing in mind the picking and whether the deal is taken or not IS essentially uncontrollably random), then I believe they would be breaking the law. Likewise if anyone found out about this and the press got hold of it, the show would dive off the radar.

Just not worth it for the producers. My money os on an entirely random game and we just have had a set of coincidences. Remember, as highlighted in Nancy's game, anyone can get to a situation with £250K still in play at the end, regardless of it being in their box or the other one. And with a swap possibility, there is even more randomness involved.

See my post about Nancy's spooky game - you could say it was fixed (someone told her she was going on and gave her the sequence) or that it highlights just how coincidential random numbers can be (anyone who's worked in statistics or higher level mathematics will know about that!).
