I am looking to start up as a full time property developer and am trying to decide on the most suitable vehicle for the job.
I would be grateful of any recommendations on this matter.
I am currently considering a double cab pickup such as a used Nissan Navara for approx 7k that may hold its value well, although my head tells me a cheap transit van or VW transporter would be more sensible that i could always run into the ground.
It would need to return decent mpg and be large enough to fit a sofa. I am unlikely to be VAT registered so applicable discounts are not a consideration.
Hi, I'm no expert on these types of van or pickup... but I can give you my understanding of the TAX consequences of van vs pick-up...
Are you planning to trade as a limited company? If so, the van will carry a taxable benefit of £500. This means that you personally will be taxed as if you were earning an extra £500 a year.
If you go for a pick-up... this may be classed as a company car and is subject to a much higher rate of tax. This means that you will be taxed as if you earned an extra approx £3000+ a year (depending on the vehicle). You may also be taxed on the fuel if the company pays for fuel you use privately.
I think you should talk this through with your accountant.
