Hello, I recently worked with a young lady at work who absolutly stunck. I asked her normal manager about it and she said she had not aproached her about it as was too embarrassed and they are of a similar age. Certainly the smell made me start wrenching but I may not work with her for months so can do little myself about it.
However how would any of the other forumers aproach the lady in a civil manner explaining there is clearly a problem with her hygene? ...Thankyou ..... Cool

Hi Jumbo it is a difficult one ,on the one hand they would have to be told but I dont think I could be the one to do it,I would find it very embarrassing Blush I know that would be seen as a cop out but I would not want to be put in that position Smile

I definitely think its one for the manager to sort out regardless of whether she is the same age as the culprit or not - the manager gets paid for managing so let him/her do their job - you could take the matter into your own hands of course if you so wish - maybe you could suggest the importance of using a deodrant, washing one's clothes regularly etc but make sure you are not in a public place when you do it as humiliating the person will not help

some peeps have a condition ...
so we must forgive them...

one such was a driver who used to spend an hour unloading his 40 footer....

pity the poor fellow who was put up there
with him...

and some babies poo cannot be masked with a fragrant scarf either ...the wee blighters!

How dare they attack us as soon as they`re oot!

Thanks Marguerita and indeed it is a personl problem, not one where some one is doing their job wrong and I can jump onto it and rectify the situation. As the normal manager is unwilling to do some thing I would love too the next time I work with the young lady. However the problem really is to try and do just such a thing tactfully as I would not want her to get that embarressed how ever I actually think she would, but am wondering if their would be a way to get the hygene standards up where she does it but it kind of goes over her head.
As for the smell, well in the Summer I would excpect flies to be around her it is that pungent. Its like old BO mixed with fresh BO. The best way I think to describe it is gone off human being!

how about organising a healthcare type person to come to the place of work and give everybody a talk on a few topics (such as diet, exercise, smoking cessation etc)and slot in something on personal hygeine and the importance of washing ones clothing aswell as ones body and emphasise that if this isnt done on a daily basis it could be that the actual person will not smell their own BO but others will and this could lead to disharmony in the workforce/team etc. It really is a difficult one. Let us know how you progress with it please

I aim to please - let me know how you get on with this delicate matter (still think the other manager should accept responsibility if they are this person's line manager tho)

There was a lad at my last workplace who ponged a bit. Well, a lot. No-one would tell him, and so the manager had to do it. Everyone made mean cowardly comments behind his back though!

I think the lot Im involved with here are being far more professional. When ever it comes up in chat its usually maybe she has not got much water at home as she recently split up with her boyfriend, to may be its a medical condition.
I have spoken to both the manager and deputy at that unit and they rather put up with it than let her know as it is certainly a personal issue.
That said it made me close to being physically sick whilst another employee in another unit was literally sick.
The smell is strong and not nice and just wish there was a decent way of aproaching the subject with her. I was willing to do this but have been told as its a female and I am a male I must not, that it must come from another female. Where as if it was a male they would let me carry on.
Its just such a difficult thing to aproach as the last thing any one wants to do is upset her feelings. Sadly though even customers have noticed and make comments when she is not there such as she has never changed her knickers etc....must say though I have yet to hear a customer say such a thing but in front of me I guess they would not.
It is truly a problem that needs to be dealt with with great care and humanity, but what the devil is the secret to this one. I am sure if some one could point a decent way then one of the lady employees would aproach her on it.
