Can the manager not write her a letter telling her customers had complained? My daughter who works with children, told a work experience girl to go home and get her mother to treat her hair which was crawling with head lice!.Better to do this as have an outbreak amongst the children!

Now what are you blethering on about Crawley. Where my signature is situated has nothing to do with me, anymore than where my avatar or name is either. Everybody's signature is in the same place so why do you pick on me I wonder? If you dont like it then that's tough but there isnt anything I can do about it

If, as you say it has to be a female to broach the subject, then if her line manager is not female it should be the job of the next female employee who is higher up the pecking order. Somewhere in your organisation there must be a female manager who is being paid to manage and this situation definitely sounds like it needs tackling. If the smell is making other employees sick and the customers are also passing comment then its not good, to put it mildly. I know its a delicate subject but like you say, could be she has personal probs tho surely nothing that cannot be surmountable. Good luck
Well i have been chatting to that team a fair bit and none are willing to do anything about it. This Wednesday I have a business meeting with my boss so I shall certainly bring it up and harp on about it. I just cannot believe that the regular manager has not brought it up in her business meetings ...guess trying to avoid the issue....I think once again it will be a job where I shall have to sort it out. So nothing new there then lol

what line of business are you in, because if your dealing with customers your manager should tell her that she has an issue with hygiene as its not good for business, i have to always have clean clothes and i keep breath mints and perfume with me when i go to work as i work closly with people and it would not be appropriate for me to smell (i work in a hairdressers, not to give anyone the wrong idea when i said i worked closely lol) xx

It's difficult James, as several years ago i was working as a caretaker which included being on the night shift with the cleaning ladies. One of them unfortunately had rather bad B.O and I actually think that someone subtly suggested that she use this new deoderant, and she simply said that she doesn't use it because she doesn't smell!!! It is easier I think fore males because I would have no qualms about telling a fellow male employee that he was a bit pungent, as we know we can kick out a bit of B.O if we don't shower every morning, use deoderant etc, so we are less sensitive about it. Personally I think this female Manager was being a bit of a wuss, her job is to ensure that the workplace is comfortable for all employees, and if she is a little embarrassed or doesn't want this young lady to fall out with her, then that is just tough, the reason that Managers get paid more is because it is their responsibility to make tough decisions and risk hurting people's feelings etc.
Just the one. Sshhhh... Don't tell my sponser!

yeah this manager is being paid to manage and she is not doing it. why should somebody else do her dirty work just so she can stay popular

Ya and what is so gutting was that my meeting with my boss was on my one day off this week. I turned up at 1 rang at one thirty to see where he was and he said "Oh didnt you get the message I cancelled as its your day off!"....Great! So the smell still smells on

Hi, haven't been in this bit before & I don't know what sort of working environment you are in. If you really can't face telling her and your boss clearly doesn't have the balls to do it either, why not fake a letter of complaint from a customer? Copy it and send it around your workplace with a note from manager saying "can everyone please ensure they look and smell clean in future please?" and get everyone to initial it once they've seen it. She may take note that way. One of you could be going out at lunch to get some stronger antiperspirant, would she like some? As I said, I don't know what sort of work you do but it could well be seen as a Health & Safety issue so if she's not great at hygiene, what else is she slack at? I wanted Rex to win Diva #95 & Unmemorable FM Member #36 Some days, its not worth gnawing through the straps
