New PM!

Hello all, lovely to hear from you ENH! I hope you all had a nice Christmas and are looking forward to the new year. For Christmas I got the HIGNFY DVD and it's fantastic, consisting of over 3 hours of highlights from the past two years and a 75 minute Boris episode. There's also a 45 minute A-Z of the show which is largely highlights, some behind the scenes stuff and lots of Kilroy bashing. Bliss. JL's appearance is quite thin on the ground, I remember there being funnier moments which have been left out, but the joke about Americans believeing Daphne's brother comes from Manchester is in there, which is nice. I also got the Spamalot CD in which DHP sings a few amusing tracks, and rather well too. Happy New Year's Eve and congrats CL on your 6th anniversary on the board. Lattes all round! I'll be off now. I'm looking forward greatly to the "Return of the Goodies" special on BBC2 tonight at 9pm. Take care! Jess.
If you want me, I shall be in the spleen.

Happy New Year to all! Lattes for everyone! (Except me, a regular Americano, please? Thanks.)
That Other Channel had a Frasier marathon last night. Hurray.
Regards in disappointing sobriety to you all. x

Happy New Year everyone! My Christmas was nice and quiet this year for a change but I still haven't got any work done. Oh well. Hope the weather wasn't too bad, we were 'promised' snow but only got a rather pathetic frost type thing.
Did anyone else find those Santa's in Dr. Who really creepy?
I have to get that HIGNFY dvd now. wonder how well JL and PG's new shows are doing (not sure if they've even aired yet). Ana ~

Yes, they were very creepy. Oh Ana, I'm jealous, I want the HIGNFY dvd. (Sighs at missing out on Jane Leeves, Jeremy Clarkson but especially Boris Johnson and his bonus disc)
You're wearing tights. I can't take lectures on physics from a man in tights. Dancing yes. Physics no!

Hi all! Just a super quick post to say that DHP and JM are two of the talking heads on "The Ultimate Sitcom" on C4, which is on now until 11.55pm. Hope you manage to catch it! Jess.
If you want me, I shall be in the spleen.

"The Ultimate Sitcom" has just finished. It was a top 20 list comiled by votes from industry insiders, and Frasier claimed the number one spot. Hurrah! JM and DHP were both there to sing their praises Frasier as well as talk about other shows. JM said his favourite sitcom is 'Rising Damp', whilst DHP adores 'Fawlty Towers'. Anyway, well done to Frasier, but do C4 put an episode on afterwards? Do they heckers. Jess.
If you want me, I shall be in the spleen.

I'm so glad that it claimed the Top Spot -yes!! Great interviews with DHP and JM as well.

I managed to catch the last 5 minutes of this and was really chuffed, just finished watching a Season 4 ep on DVD as well, so switching that off and seeing JM and DHP chatting away about it was great. Maybe, now Channel 4 might start showing it again.

Myabe they'll be a flooding of episodes if we all make a point about it being the ultimate sitcom and so therefore it should get better air play

Number one! Another round of victory lattes (plus regular Americano for CL) for everyone. I was watching catch me if you can, but recorded the whole countdown and flicked over to see Peter Casey talk about Cheers and Ted miss the top ten. I had a rather cynical 'its a C4 countdown, they'll put Friends and The Simpsons at the top' atitude about the whole thing. I take it all back Just out of curiosity does anyone know where those shows came? Yep, It was nice seeing DHP and JM in something Frasier related again. The Radio Times website says C4 are showing it from 9 Jan at 9:00am ('The unnatural'). Shame about the timeslot but at least its on. Is it that hard to schedule it in the evening? Ok I'll stop complaining. Ana ~

|
That gives me a wave of nostalgia, for the days when Frasier used to restart around 9th January...
|
| |
|

|
Aw, you're right CL, those were the days; never mind Television over Christmas, it was the New year schedule I was looking forward too.
I watched a few epsiodes from Season 11 yesterday, including 'Boo!'. Kelsey really does menacing with that clown outfit/makeup. Ana ~

Kudos to Frasier for winning that award. BTW, I've been busily downloading every episode of Little Britain. Those guys are brilliant. Nothing beats Ann ("eh eh eh") and the unmotivated "computer says no" gal. Of course, Vicky is in a class of her own.

Meh, I'm so sick of Little Britain. The first series pushed the envelope and was edgy, but the second was just vile in palces. Don't even get me started on the third. The only reason I could still watch it would be for the brilliant Anthony Head (Who looks like my history teacher )

But to me, it's brand new.

Hello all, and hello Valor. I still think the first series of Little Britain is a masterpiece, but most of it since then has been deeply dull. Shame really.
T'was lovely to see Frasier grab the 'Best Sitcom' award. A shame, however, that it seems to have gone totally unnoticed by the press. I didn't see a report on it anywhere, not even Ceefax - and they report anything!
Hope everyone had great New Year celebrations. I've come down with a cold now, just in time for going back to uni. Hooray!

Yep John, a bit of hoopla and fuss would have been nice. The radio almost always has a discussion about those countdown programes the next day but there was no mention of it. Shame as I was looking forward to hearing arguments for it not being No. 1.
No sign of spring yet Ossie, but just something about product placement in episodes - I was watching 'Frasier loves Roz' the other day and there is a coke can visible for most of the kitchen scene where Daphne tells Roz that Frasier is after her. Perhaps S3s ok then? Ana ~

We need a "Frasier Crane Best Sitcom" day, I think. Anthony Head looks like Meg's History teacher? Lucky Meg...

Well not exactly. I would prefer Anthony Head ( )

*long pause*
Sorry.
Hello all, and particularly nice to see John and Valor posting so recently, its a full-scale reunion! And Happy Anniversary CL! (Is it wrong that I actually remembered that around the time even though I wasn't online to post?)
Oh, and a slightly late Happy New Year all! What did people get up to? The Scottish in me really kicks in for Hogmanany, I just love it. Managed to get guest listed for a club called The Arches in Glasgow (biggest club in Scotland, arguably the best) which saved me and a friend £60 which is good given our poverty status. An insane night of heavy strobe-lightingy DJ-worshipping dancey music. Never thought I was into this sort of scene but apparently so! Afterwards did the house-party circuit (sadly not Noel's), eventually having to share a tiny wee sofa in the messy student kitchen of someone I only met that night, without covers, passing out around 10am. Then carried on celebrating with friends - taking advantage of my youth and robust health (!), I ultimately went on a four day bender (keep your mouth shut Bad Ambassador!). Fantastic fun.
So how is everyone doing? Are the students fully-fledged academics yet?
Not quite sure where I am since last posting. Been doing bar work at (mainly) the SECC in Glasgow which is entertaing as you get a free concert (I am now a card-carrying fan of Phil Collins). Had a surreal couple of months doing that job though as you work other places associated with them as concerts vary on dates and crowd size; one lunchtime Christmas charity lunch I worked at couldn't have had more than 250 people there but as their live entertainment had Girls Aloud, McFly, Liberty X, Darren Hayes, Son of Dork and a couple others! Pure cheese but quite impressive, and I got to go to the Green Room as well so standing a metre or so away from Girls Aloud who, admittely, are girls, but fun was extracted by boasting to my straight male friends about it!
I'm starting work part time at a bank at the end of the month which is good as it pays fairly well, and I'll keep the concert stuff on too as I enjoy (plus a little extra cash). It's silly but I'm quite happy to chuck most of this year away on working soul-destroying jobs that won't go anywhere and have fun outside that. Other than financially I have a radical frustrating freedom at the moment, and I regret too many missed opportunities fron uni and my teen years, so a shiny waste of a year is appealing (as long as it is just a year...)
CL, may I have a full fat Mocha, extra whipped cream and a couple of slices of bacon on top instead of a Latte?
Indeed, congratulations to Frasier for its best sitcom win, it was nice to see although all the standard talking-head guff (some just factually incorrect - the show is affectionately mocking the pomposity of the two leads, not _being_ that pomposity! Tsk.) Pleasing news as well as I have weaned a friend onto Frasier fully now. She was never a fan, then started to enjoy occasional episodes I rammed down her throat, and now genuinely enjoys watching it. By no means a giddy fan but another to add to the tally!
TV at the moment is messy, I can't focus my attentions and loyalty on many shows yet. Desperate Housewives is back next week happily. I enjoyed Invasion on Sunday (directed by West Wing's Thomas Schlamme incidentally). Need to see My Name is Earl as that looks good. My flatmate is near obsessed with Curb Your Enthusiasm so I need to start watching that too.
The only essential TV just now is still West Wing on More4. A completely different show to what is was with characters all doing different things (who is writing the speeches?! For the love of god who is writing the speeches?!), but some stonkingly fantastic episodes this season.
Oh, and the spiffing Jon Stewart is presenting the Oscars!
Not been to cinema much recently but saw Brokeback Mountain on its first day of release (cough) - and despite most of the viewers probably stopping en route to the local gay bar, it was sold out on its first night. For an arthouse "gay cowboy" movie, that is reassuring to see. And what a film it is too. Perhaps *too* subtle to the point of losing emotion at times, and a little over-praised and over-long, but it does resonate a lot, and the final moments did tease out a tear.
And at that I say farewell for just now!

I have had a frustrating waste of a weekend... at work yesterday (annual Open Day for transfer pupils), Mr CL called out for Coastguard heroics (?) which lasted most of today. Salvaged only by a couple of trips to the swimming pool and a walk on a local beach which had to be aborted because it was just too cold.
Hmm.
There's something about Anthony Head, isn't there?
That Other Channel is repeating early episodes of Frasier. Quite wonderful - a rare treat, even though I have the box sets, I never seem to have time to watch them.
A bit depressed, in truth. Really. Hmm.
