I would have set it up, but seeing as how good you are these sort of things snarky, i thought it best to leave up to you (BWG)
Agreed on This Life, OFAH syndrome all over again.
g, came back from a weekend excursion across the pond. Went to St. Omer in france - nice, went to lille - didn't stop too long, then by some quirk of fate, ended up in Belgium. No complaints though - lush scenery, not to mention delicious beers, but strong - oh so very strong. May blog the whole trip + pictures (but worried about revealing my identity)
I've not been commenting on stuff cos i've been attending local jam nights, after 6 years of playing guitar in the bedroom. Done 2 acoustic sets thus far, and committed sacrilege by covering a CH song, and swallowed my pride covering Britney (via travis)
talking of music - anyone see live 8? anyone made more aware of the important issues, or put to sleep by Dido?
talking of the thread title, anyone know what various Homicide alumni are up to? (trying to keep on topic to avoid being deleted)

At which point I ask a stupid question to our resident computer know-how types.
I am buying a new computer and want to know what the easiest and quickest way of moving across files (mostly word, excel but some email (dbx/pst) files). Do I really need to set up a network or do Dixons sell a wonder-cable that'll let me hook the two together and transfer them over.

And that would be a quirk of fate how?

Photoshop your face and those of your friends out of all the photos and replace them with the faces of Tom Cruise and Katy Holmes.

Speechifying doesn't really raise awareness. If everyone who attended was made to study the issue and then answer 20 questions on free trade and debt cancellation before they were allowed in, that might have raised some real awareness.
Thought U2 were flat but I figure that that was the crowd's fault. They looked bored senseless till Brad Pitt arrived. Saw most of it the early afternoon, in between other stuff and missed most of the evening stuff. Laughed by arse off at Snoop and his cheerleaders, Mariah Careys' streetwalker outfit and Madonna's pathetic "I'm so big and clever" swearing (although she was good – a case of not liking the woman herself but liking her songs). Thought Robbie doing Queen may not have been the best of ideas, although the little I saw of him was good. [QUOTE] talking of the thread title, anyone know what various Homicide alumni are up to? (trying to keep on topic to avoid being deleted) [QUOTE] I love imdb.
Kyle Secor is in Commander in Chief playing President Geena Davis' husband. Andre Braugher's done a tv show called Thief with Linda Hamilton.
Isabella Hoffman and Yaphet Kotto are still doing crap tv movies. Someone give them some good work. Polito and Baldwin doing so-so movies. Belzer doing SVU.
Reed Diamond is going to be in a new George Clooney produced film about McCarthyism, which sounds good.
Melissa Leo made half a dozen films this year. Ned Beatty looks like he's been making just one film a years for the last few years.
Clark Johnson is directing The Sentinel with Kim Basinger and Michael Douglas (she's the First Lady, he's a secret service bloke she's having an affair with. Someone wants to kill the President and he becomes the suspect). And doing some acting.
Apologises if this posts twice but this place is on the fritz again.

OK, looks like the "Thought Police" from CBore have been let loose yet again. <sigh>
Yes I thought U2 were flat too Snarky for them, guess there could be any number of reasons for that though including:-
1) Having to play with Macca. <yawn> 2) Crowd. 3) Busy tour schedule. 4) (Most likely!) Bono tired from his court escapades in getting his hat back. He's got it, yay!
Horray to C4 because it's Tuesday and alas the ONLY prog I watch in the entire C-Bore schedule:- Yes that nice Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares. Fascinating stuff, must go as Bourdain is on UK Food now. Oh how I love to cook.

Hee hee. I agree, the sight of him "rocking out" to Helter Skelter made me worry that he'd dislocate his hip. <g>

On it's own, suing the woman looks petty but there's other stuff behind the case.
Yet again I suspect this will appear three dozen times. I can't wait till Big Brother is over so the forums go back to normal.

Anyway, Shameless spoilers - you know where to go.
went on the live 8 website and watched some stuff from philadelphia - the def poetry was relevant, and then again not (it seemed to cover US ghetto poverty, rather than the situation), but all poverty needs to be covered.
probably more important than Chris Martin's "most important thing organised in the world ever."
That hyperbole serves no rightful purpose, or martin is seriously delusional.
oh, and UJ - have a word with Roman and Jose, give us Gallas, Duff and Gudjohnsen + plus £40 million, and you can have Stevie G (BWG)
Yep, that was all a bit strange, that. He's a pretty easy to confuse fella, apparently. But he's red, and he wants to stay, and thats enough for me. Onward, and upward.
On Live 8, I managed to miss most of it, which I'm not too upset about. Interesting that the boat thing, and the long march to freedom thing, were both damp squibs next to the chance to watch some music. Makes you wonder whether its the message or the entertainments that gets people going....
Anyways, War of the Worlds was grim, and pretty good really. Also pretty close to the book, which makes a nice change. Even Cruise was good.
Paul, glad someone started a new thread. Its like a spring clean, or something.
And its likely that Kyle Secor will show up on the second season of Veronica Mars, which is actually a good thing. And its on topic!

on the subject of films, I want to see Murderball, Double Dare, and March of the Penguins.
Rotten Tomatoes rarely gets a rating wrong.
Shall check all those out later, never look at many film review sites these days ... don't know why but must find the time.
I saw Sideways last night on DVD and excellent stuff, the sort of film you have to be in the right mood to watch. Nothing much happens but it's a nice film and the funny moments are really funny and the scenery is sublime if you want to see the vineyards of California. Sort of film that Barry Levinson could have made.
Hit and run post because (a) not much to say (for once <g> ) and (b) have piles of work to do which I stupidly left until 5pm on a Sunday afternoon because I'm an idiot and like staying up past midnight writing reports.
Did anyone see Wonderfalls? Not sure what to make of it.
Re new shows - C4 has Reunion, The War at Home, which is a comedy one of the Will & Grace writers and Invasion, which is about a hurricane.
ITV have bought a sci-fi show called Supernatural.
And finally the BBC have bought How I Met Your Mother which stars Willow from Buffy.
North Square is being rerun on FX 289 Mondays 10 p.m. (repeated at 12 a.m.)
I've already missed the first two, but no doubt this is really rubbing it in to those of you that don't have FX.
Yes it is rubbing it in. I can't believe C4 won't give it a late night showing but flog it off to a channel watched by 12 people.
Actually you made we wonder what happened to the cast. I know Helen McCory is currently doing theatre and Kevin McKidd is always in stuff but what about the two who played pupils. Old Rupert whatsit is in Spooks and there was the woman who played Mad Maya in Corrie. And what about the chubby bloke? Head of chambers woman used to be on Holby City but what happened to the cute clerk? I can hear imdb calling me...
More new TV. Sky 1 have bought the CBS show Threshold (they will also be showing the new seasons of Nip/Tuck and Cold Case). It's about aliens and has Charles S. Dutton in it.

So none for the wire. I know no-one watches it, but why? seriously, what is it about it that makes it so unwatchable for Americans?
I'd agree with someone else that, of that list, it's Kiefer vs Hugh for actor, and 24 or lost for best show (i'm going on instinct there)
And the winners in my "guess the Emmy winners" game are:
Drama Series: "Deadwood," HBO; "Lost," ABC; "Six Feet Under," HBO; "24," Fox; "The West Wing," NBC. Have to go for 24 but only because it's the only one I've seen. Think it will be Deadwood or Lost.
Comedy Series: "Arrested Development," Fox; "Desperate Housewives," ABC; "Everybody Loves Raymond," CBS; "Scrubs," NBC; "Will & Grace," NBC. Arrested Development. Love Scrubs as well though. I don't consider DH a comedy. Suspect Raymond will win as I understand this was their last season. Never seen it myself.
Miniseries: "Elvis," CBS; "Empire Falls," HBO; "The 4400," USA; "The Lost Prince (Masterpiece Theatre)," PBS. I thought Gina McKee was great in The Lost Prince but I'm thinking it was a bit "slow-moving" for this lot so I'll go with Empire Falls cause the Americans like their epics and The 4400 is sci-fi and a bit geeky.
Made-for-TV Movie: "Lackawanna Blues," HBO; "The Life and Death of Peter Sellers,"HBO; "The Office Special," BBC America; "Warm Springs," HBO; "The Wool Cap," TNT. The Office, because hardly anyone watched it or the Peter Sellers thing.
Variety, Music or Comedy Series: "Da Ali G Show," HBO; "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart," Comedy Central; "Late Night With Conan O'Brien," NBC; "Late Show With David Letterman," CBS; "Real Time With Bill Maher," HBO. Letterman or Daily Show.
Variety, Music or Comedy Special:"77th Annual Academy Awards," ABC; "Dave Chappelle: For What It's Worth," Showtime; "Everybody Loves Raymond - The Last Laugh," CBS; "The Games of The XXVIII Olympiad - Opening Ceremony," NBC; "58th Annual Tony Awards (2004)," CBS. Raymond.
Actor, Drama Series: James Spader, "Boston Legal," ABC; Ian McShane, "Deadwood," HBO; Hugh Laurie, "House," Fox; Hank Azaria, "Huff," Showtime; Kiefer Sutherland, "24," Fox. Hugh Laurie because the Americans love a Brit.
Actress, Drama Series: Jennifer Garner, "Alias," ABC; Mariska Hargitay, "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," NBC; Patricia Arquette, "Medium," NBC; Glenn Close, "The Shield," FX; Frances Conroy, "Six Feet Under," HBO. No idea. Garner is too light weight. Hargitay is on a cop show so won't win. Probably Close as she is Hollywood glamour.
Supporting Actor, Drama Series: William Shatner, "Boston Legal," ABC; Oliver Platt, "Huff," Showtime; Naveen Andrews, "Lost," ABC; Terry O'Quinn, "Lost," ABC; Alan Alda, "The West Wing," NBC. The bloke off Lost. Either/or…
Supporting Actress, Drama Series: Sandra Oh, "Grey's Anatomy," ABC; Blythe Danner, "Huff," Showtime; Tyne Daly, "Judging Amy," CBS; CCH Pounder, "The Shield," FX; Stockard Channing, "The West Wing," NBC. CCH Pounder hopefully but probably Tyne Daly, cause she has to win one every third year.
Actor, Comedy Series: Jason Bateman, "Arrested Development," Fox; Ray Romano, "Everybody Loves Raymond," CBS; Tony Shalhoub, "Monk," USA; Zach Braff, "Scrubs," NBC; Eric McCormack, "Will & Grace," NBC. Jason Bateman or Scrubs blokey. Monk as an outsider.
Actress, Comedy Series: Marcia Cross, "Desperate Housewives," ABC; Teri Hatcher, "Desperate Housewives," ABC; Felicity Huffman, "Desperate Housewives," ABC; Patricia Heaton, "Everybody Loves Raymond," CBS; Jane Kaczmarek, "Malcolm In The Middle," Fox. Hopefully Jane Kaczmarek.
Supporting Actor, Comedy Series: Jeffrey Tambor, "Arrested Development," Fox; Jeremy Piven, "Entourage," HBO; Peter Boyle, "Everybody Loves Raymond," CBS; Brad Garrett, "Everybody Loves Raymond," CBS; Sean Hayes, "Will & Grace," NBC. Only one I've seen is Tambor, so him.
Supporting Actress, Comedy Series: Jessica Walter, "Arrested Development," Fox; Doris Roberts, "Everybody Loves Raymond," CBS; Holland Taylor, "Two And A Half Men," CBS; Conchata Ferrell, "Two And A Half Men," CBS; Megan Mullally, "Will & Grace," NBC. Jessica Walter please.
Actor, Miniseries or a Movie: Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, "Elvis," CBS; Ed Harris, "Empire Falls," HBO; Geoffrey Rush, "The Life and Death of Peter Sellers," HBO; Kenneth Branagh, "Warm Springs," HBO; William H. Macy, "The Wool Cap," TNT. William H Macy because everyone loves him.
Actress, Miniseries or a Movie: Blythe Danner, "Back When We Were Grownups (Hallmark Hall of Fame Presentation)," CBS; Debra Winger, "Dawn Anna," Lifetime Television; S. Epatha Merkerson, "Lackawanna Blues," HBO; Halle Berry, "Their Eyes Were Watching God," ABC; Cynthia Nixon, "Warm Springs," HBO. Gwynnie's mummy. Or Halle Berry for Hollywood glamour reasons.
Supporting Actor, Miniseries or a Movie: Randy Quaid, "Elvis," CBS; Paul Newman, "Empire Falls," HBO; Philip Seymour Hoffman,
